I've re-read this entire thread just because... :)

I just wish these were around years ago. I lost my mom to cancer (bladder) in 2008 but she also had to have a small portion of her lung removed in the mid 90's. She smoked her whole life and was openly disappointed in me that I started. I am convinced cigarettes were the root-cause of her early passing. Even if using a PV vice smoking had added just 5 years to her life, she'd still be here today and would have seen her granddaughter (my oldest) graduate from school. Not trying to hop on a pulpit of any kind or bring the tone of this thread down, but I can't help but wonder and wish...

Hopefully, this will make you and your mom feel better, smell better and generally improve the quality of your lives. More importantly, here's hoping it will improve the length of your lives!

Great news. Thanks for this. I have smoked for about 20 years, and have been "meaning" to quit for awhile now. It is so difficult to cold turkey, and the other aids held no real allure for me (patches, etc..) I tried initially to go e-cig a few months ago. That first experience was not very good. It was a small e-cig with a liquid that was supposed to simulate my original brand (Camel). I tried, but found that smoking that e-cig just made me crave a cigarette MORE!

After some coworkers started getting large model PVs with varied flavored ejuices I decided it may work better the second time. It's been less than a week, but I am really digging it now.. I've ordered about 10 different flavors and have found myself craving analogues less and less. From 30 logs a day to maybe 5 yesterday and 2 so far today. I really think this can do it.. and it's so much fun finding and trying new flavors, different accessories, etc... I am working on my family now to try and get them to see the light.

That is AWESOME!!!!!! I am so happy for you and your mom! Thanks so much for sharing!!! I bought my sister a 510 kit that she is picking up at my house tomorrow so I can show her how it works and I am SLOWLY working on my husband to get him to try it. I hope I can have the same success that you had!

Best of luck to you in getting her to switch! You can do it, she can too :)

Allen, I'm sending big hugs your way!! There's no amount of words that can comfort that kind of loss...just know that she's looking down on you and proud you're not smoking now. :)

I've been a smoker since I was 12 years of age. I come from a family of smokers for the last 4 generations on my mothers side. I had been almost constantly exposed to 2nd hand smoke from birth. Neither of my parents smoked. I was handed my first cig at age 12, I picked up the habit right then & continued hard-core until 4 months ago. My GF & I had seen & heard about ecigs for a while. but couldnt find them or interested enough to research them online. She happened to be at the local convenience store & saw they had disposables & kits. When I got home from work she told me they had them. A few days later I was at the same convenience store for cigs, I saws the ecig display, asked the clerk to show me 1 of each item they carry. Read the packaging on each & on impulse decided to buy a $40.00 starter kit as it was the most value for the dollar. I tried it a couple of days later. I was impressed & started researching ecigs online. Three weeks later it was time for our monthly run to the wholesaler for groceries & cigs. I took stock of our cig inventory & I still had 2.5 cartons left & she was out. We decided to not buy cigs that day, she smoked the rest of my brand, while we shopped around online & then decied on a brand & ordered & waited for delivery of our 1st full order of ecig supplies. She has now been smokefree since the order arrived on 10/07/2011. While I went from 2-3 cigars a day, while using the original starter to I still have an occasional cigar. I used to do 1-2 packs of Cigarillos a day. She used to do 2-3 packs of cigarillos a day.
So I am very happy to have gotten on the track to completely quitting after 47 yrs of smoking. And the ultimate joy of it all...WE ARE SAVING $$$$

That's amazing! Congratulations!! Isn't just mind boggling how easy it is to ease off them? Best wishes to you, I know you can succeed :)

To set the story...

I switched to vaping near the first of October this year, about a month ago. I've really enjoyed the experience thus far, and have convinced my mother, a 40+ year smoker, to join me. Previous to vaping, she smoked 1 1/2 packs per day. For the last two weeks she had been using my first "starter kit" re-branded, cigarette look-alike, with some success. She would puff on it occasionally but was still smoking 3/4 a pack per day. She was forcing herself to switch at this point, and did not enjoy vaping. The main catalyst for the change was the increasing price of cigarettes, and her decreasing budget.

So on Wednesday of this week , my mother's eGo-T battery, cartomizers, and some RY4 and caramel cappuccino juice arrived in the mail. It's currently Saturday morning (THREE DAYS LATER), and not less than ten minutes ago, she made the remark "I just smoked a cigarette, and I can't believe this but it tasted awful! I'm not taking the pack with me today!" She then went to work, for the first time in forty years without a pack of cigarettes in her purse. In her purse instead were the eGo and two cartomizers, ready for the day.I am simply in awe of the transformation. She has tried various methods of quitting in the past: gum, patches, cold turkey...none of them worked. Each time it was a visible struggle for her to put the cigarettes down, and each time she carried them with her throughout the "quitting" period, "just in case". It may not mean as much to the unbiased bystander, but it is a miracle that she willingly, even joyfully, put down the cigarettes for good!!!

I'm in tears as I write this, and I just had to share, and thank Everyone at ECF for all the advice, the research done, the coupon codes which tickle my thrifty side, but mainly for the help in the transformation from smoker to vaper, for both me and my mother. THANK YOU!!!

very good for you !! i have been with out that stinky ball and chain 10 days now
my mom is 65 and been disabled for 20+ years now and started smoking just before i was conceived, since being disabled all she does is sit at her table and watch tv,smoke and talk on the phone,,,the windows are always shut, year round so the inside of here house is all nicotine brown color so when he dies we probably couldn't even give the house away
yesterday i asked her if she would be interesed in trying a ecig ???she answered,,when i am ready to quit i will just quit cold turkey like i have before,,when in all reality she just hides the smoking,,,not as good as she thinks either

all of my grand parents quit at the around the age 65,,both grannys still kickin and in their 90's :O
mom and one sister are the last of the smokers in my rather small family now

so consider yourself lucky to have a mother willing to at least give it a good shot,, life is good :)
