No fair recording and telling what happened during my blackout! Y'know, that's why they're called BLACKOUTS, it's pretty bad... You are all "Id" and no "Superego" and despite my hatred of Freud, I think his personality system applies to blackouts.... They can get pretty Satanically dark.,... That's also why no one should ever tell you what you did, you're like a small child, you need to be protected from yourself.

Greyhound is PURE EVIL (OMG LOVE this thread by the way.
A friend of mine was riding the bus (really! I have never had the pleasure!) LOL she was worried about some illegal drugs and decided to keep them in her purse. Some kid was causing such a ruckus my friend played with it (in the spirit of, "we can all get some sleep.") LOL, she (and the child) ended up falling asleep on each other.
The bus was STOPPED and the luggage inspected! Then cops got ON the bus to look for drugs (I think is how it went.) My friend's purse was interlaced between her arm and the kid, and like the cop going by was like, "Oh how sweet, a sleeping child and etc." so they did not wake her up.
Saved by an act of charity! And this was like decades ago. I bet now, they make you promise an organ donation or something.
I will never, ever get on a greyhound bus either. I hope. I mean uber's probably as bad some places. Greyhound just has such a PERCEPTION of danger though.
And that bathroom. I can barely think about it.

So, what's your call, Ger (now that we've given you plenty of time to think about it)? Sneak vaping (Justfog Mini!), or gum/lozenges?
Well..."sneak vaping" my Justfog Minifit...like in a BR...would be doable...but...I AM NOT AN ANIMAL!!!
8 hr on a train (sneaking into the BR like a criminal)...followed by a 6 hr layover in a NO-Vaping station (in D.C. where if I went outside I'd be surrounded by politicians)...followed by 5 hr on a train (again sneaking into the BR like a criminal)...19 hr TOTAL...when we can drive it in 8 hr...vaping where we want, when we want and what we want...hardly seems worth it...
[Plus...the ONLY AMTRAK from Pgh to D.C....and from Newport News to D.C. (return)...leaves at 5AM...and after 15 years of unemployment/retirement...I'm not sure my heart is even beating anytime before 9AM...
]I might still consider it...if AMTRAK paid me $476 to make the round-trip...but...they want me to pay them the $476...

Google Maps shows it being closer to 6-1/2 hours than 8. And oh hell yes I'd much rather drive than take a train.
In fact, when I wrote, "If it were me, I'd get some nic gum, lozenges, or snus" I really wanted to say, "If it were me, I'd drive." I refrained from that because I figured there must be some reason this wasn't possible.

That's one of the reasons we bought our retirement/vacation house in Florida, rather than Hawaii. Unfortunately, I have business obligations that require me to go to Europe every other year.

Every other year, you will have my kindest thoughts and I will read the headlines about "Passenger Fed Up" wondering if the passenger is a generally well mannered man that I "virtually" know.
Knowing what I know, I would still take the train. But, I have snus and I have forgotten about passenger trains. I live in rural AZ and the only trains you see in Tucson are the freight trains.

Exactly. Not everyone can drive. I drive, but there’s no way I could drive that far. I can do an hour tops behind the wheel. And I don’t do highways because of my neck- I can’t turn fast or far enough to be safe with all the stupid ramps.
I had to ride an Amtrak train a few years years ago and I just hated the idea of going into the bathroom to toke a vape. Made me feel like I was in HS again or something. Every once in a while I would vape in my seat and hold my breath for a few seconds. I had a 1/2 hr layover at Union Station in DC. You're much more likely to be distracted by homeless people and taxi drivers than politicians there. I used to live in the District, just 2 blocks or so from Union Station actually, so it was kinda nice to go outside and see some familiar things. It turned out to be more of a reminder of how nice it is to not live there anymore..
Last summer rode Amtrak round-trip from Dallas to NY. No vaping allowed on train. I was in a first-class roomette. I asked the car's dedicated attendant to let me know when the next smoking stop was scheduled. Between Dallas and Chicago, smoking stops were about 4-5 hours apart; however, from Chicago and NY I had only one stop where passengers could get off the train to smoke or vape. On my return to Dallas, the car attendant must have been a non-smoker as she chose not to alert me of pending smoke stops. On several stops, I got off to vape only to find that I had time for one major drag before the train began moving again.
That's a long train ride. First class roomette or not. I hope you enjoyed the trip.
I've always wanted to try traveling by train. The trip to NY was fun ... the return trip not so much. Since freight trains have priority over Amtrak, it seemed that we were stopping every hour or so to let a freight train pass.
Yes, the roomette did have blinds so it was very private. I was concerned that the door to the roomette couldn't be locked from the outside. When you left your room it was unsecured. Amtrak says that each sleeper car has an attendant who monitors every room in their assigned car. Only first-class passengers are allowed access to the sleeper cars.
A few years ago we went from So Cal to San Antonio by amtrak, and we had a roomette. We had a blanket over our laps, and just blew the vapor underneath the blanket, no problem. I understand they will put you off the train for smoking, or vaping at the next place they can stop.
