I have tried gauges 28-34 and have found the 28 to be the most versatile for the ohm's i like to vape at. I use 28 gauge pretty much exclusively. I can't use nichrome or rene because of my slight nickel allergy.

I recommend getting organic cotton, to avoid the pesticides. I boil my cotton using 2, 20min boils with a rinse and press in between, then lay them out on some paper towels overnight to dry.

The cvs organics I use are whitened with hydrogen peroxide, and left me with a horrid after taste for a good while. Boiling gets rid of it immediately. I did get the same bad after taste with sterile cotton. I haven't tried anything else because i just don't see the need to, as cotton works great for me.

yayP, I too got disillusioned with the CVS cotton. I could taste it and had some throat irritation. So, I tried this and it has been the answer for me. It isn't whitened and has a slightly cream color. It seems to have no taste of it's own and certainly no after taste so I don't boil it. It rolls up nicely and seems to make a denser wick which seems to last longer and doesn't burn as easy. But as always, YMMV.

I've actually thought about picking up a 357 in the far out case that I'm too lazy to build a coil one day. From what I understand alls that's inside of an hh357 is basically a microcoil.

it is my personal opinion that the hh357 is not so much a lazy man's atty. Rather it is the ideal atty for one who likes to follow instructions (a lot of instructions). I kept catching myself thinking there was gonna be a test later.

good point. the perfect ....-retentive atty :)

anyone who thinks wrapping their own coils is tough should read the HH357 treatise...

"treatise", ha,ha, heh, heh.

Actually, tho, I can say this. The first time I killed it, Hanna was supercool to me. He had me send it in, and he took it apart, fixed it, rebuilt it, and even asked me what color I wanted for it's new barrel.

dang. i was hoping you had dissected one so you could explain all the science that makes them so well thought of

ballpark for gauges:

26g ~ <0.8Ω
28g ~ 1Ω
30g ~ 1.5Ω
32g ~ 2+Ω

you can fill the between spaces with odd gauges (i.e. 29g) or Nichrome (30g Nichrome = 29g Kanthal) . . . . some people get a sore throat from Nichrome.
I think my wire at home is 30g, I may give that a try first before I go experimenting with other wire.. I do have a question about the lower ohm coils though, (keep in mind) I have not been on the board much over the past months.
I was always under the impression that if I have, say a LR carto or any LR burner.. that I don't want my V too high.. ie, 1.8 around 3.7-4.0. How is it ok for me to make a <0.8 Ohm coil and hit it with 3.7 (which will be the default voltage of the Reo) and not fry the coil?
I have off this weekend, and hopefully I can do some technology catching up with reading and such, but I am curious about the above.

Thank you all so far for the advice and feedback, I feel new all over again. I have been stuck so long in my provari vaped haze that I have let everything else pass me by!

"the higher the ohm the hotter the vape" etc..This is incorrect. Heat=Power=V*V/R or in English, heat is power and power, in Watts, is equal to voltage squared divided by resistance in Ohms. For a fixed voltage decreased resistance causes an Increase in heat while increasing the resistance Decreases the heat.

Power formula: P=IV (Power is the product of voltage and current in Amps, sometimes called power law)
V=IR or I=V/R (Current, in Amps, is equal to voltage divided by resistance in Ohms, sometimes called Ohms law)
Substitute the "I" in power law with the "V/R" and you can see where the formula P=V*V/R comes from.
So 4 volts with a 2 Ohm coil is 4*4/2=16/2=8 Watts
And 4 volts with a 3 Ohm coil is 4*4/3=16/3=5.3 Watts

Now with a variable voltage device with an absolute current limit will be able to output more power with a higher Ohm coil, but few devices have an absolute limit and instead use a variable limit that varies with output voltage so it gets rather weird...

Lol! That has to be one of the oddest drawing I've ever seen.... but I love it!

The beginning of a beautiful relationship...

Picked up a bag of organic cotton from the local cvs,
Waiting for my 28 gauge kanthal, which should be here by Friday!

I do have a question about the cotton, some people say boil it, some mentioned that they don't boil it. If I boil it, do I boil the whole bag at once? A few pieces, how do I store it after I boil it? Can I set the coil up while the cotton is still damp?

Anyway, I love this thing so far with the 357 on it.

2 other things:

1. My kid says I'm a girl for getting a mod with metallic paint...
2. My wife took a few pulls on this and loves it, hopefully I don't lose it to her..
