I live in her district, and I know where her office is. I'll stop by there in person, and give her and/or her staff an educational demonstration about vaping, as well as introducing them to THIS voter/vaper.
SENSIBLE regulations for consumer protection (safe batteries, material and design quality...) would be nice, but not the kind of thing that the FDA is proposing. I realize that we're talking about the government, but I can still hope...

Educate her on why one shouldn't put batteries in their pocket as well since she brought up that incident, too. And that it wasn't an "e cig battery", but rather a battery that has many uses.

I can't see how even a conscientious vape shop could take the hours it would take to educate an individual so they could be reasonably safe with a mech. There are just to many ways to go wrong. Then we have cloud contest that don't even allow a regulated deice, and consumers waxing about how great there mechs are. You are all responsible when something goes wrong, and there is no doubt things will continue to go wrong.

It appears mechs are on a decline. If you really want to do something positive why don't you try and speed up this decline. The best education you can give people is to tell them to stay away from mechs.

I do tell them that; I have 2, for vapocalypse prep, but I don't use them -- they're just not as handy as a mod that tells me anything I want to know on a tidy little screen. Personally I have zero use for sub-ohm vaping; both my mechs have Kicks in them, and I have 3 extra Kicks just in case of that vapocalypse. But I'd rather have a mod with a chip and a screen.

For those not totally familiar with hybrids:

Really good video about this whole hybrid top cap thing, which I never understood.
And also about advocacy efforts there at the end.

I usually won't click on any video, but since YOU posted it...

But, I'm one of those people who READS THE MANUAL. Most people are like "Read the instructions? WHY?" as if reading is a fate worse than death or something. THAT is the "idiot factor" -- people who won't ever read instructions. You can provide a hundred-page manual with pictures and arrows and diagrams, and they STILL won't read it.
I'm one of those people that NEVER reads the manual.
I'm a figure it out as I go kind of guy.

My life is too busy for RTFM when 97% of the time it is a nearly total waste of time.
What I want to know is when there is a REAL and SERIOUS reason to RTFM due to serious damage.

And that's what we need in this industry the way it's going.
BIG HUGE WARNINGS.

There are products on the market that everyone knows are dangerous.
Motorcycles and guns come to mind.

Vaping products do NOT come to mind.
Not now and not ever.

Even if they are, or might be.

And people that do know and understand these dangers...
Need to stop acting like it should be common knowledge or something...

Because it's not, it never has been, and it never will be.

Batteries and explosions, oh my! Out of several billion $$$ worth of vape gear sold, there have indeed been a few incidents mostly caused by user error.

I'm glad ordinary kitchen matches and cigarette lighters are so much safer. I've never heard of any fires or loss of life caused by matches, lighters or cigarettes when those items are misused.

Well if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to trying to juggle chain saws. Yeah, I saw this really cool YouTube video so I ran down to the local wall-mart and bought three chain saws and a gas can -- complete chain saw juggling setup for myself. I figure it has to be safe because the clerk just sold me the stuff with no chain saw juggling instructions or warning or anything. I'll let you all know how that goes . . .

Would it really be that hard to even just have a simple 1 page sheet that says be careful of the tanks use you use with this hybrid top cap, maybe with a diagram. Even throw in some general battery safety bullets.

Even if it is unboxed tape the sheet to the outside.

I get that there is only so much that can be done, people might ignore it etc.. But it takes some of the air out of the "we must regulate" balloon if there was a posted warning that was ignored.

Seems like a very simple measure, not burdensome on the mod maker, that could help prevent things like this. And you know if it didn't, at least there was a pretty easy to do effort made...

I'm almost positive that the makers of the authentics in this situation do include something, or at least some do. However, none of my cheap clones, of any style, have ever come with any kind of instructions.

Most often, there is a general disclaimer/pronouncement on the web site that "these things can be dangerous if used incorrectly". People pay even less attention to that warning than they do to product-packaging warnings, or instructions.

Government intervention won't help with this, as it can never replace personal responsibility. Someone who chooses to be ignorant will always be ignorant.

CA has warnings on everything, regarding everything. The concept of personal responsibility has been diluted.
