I found a Reo on sale, and I have a few questions I need to get straight in my head.

He says ... "This does have the sub ohm kit installed."
What is a "sub ohm kit", ... what was altered, changed, added, installed, etc. to make it sub ohm worthy.
Will it interfere with, or change the way I need too vape, or build, since I don't "sub ohm".

Also he says, ... Includes 2 authentic vtc4s, 2100 mah, 30 amp rated, ( came with my vaporsharks)
I only use "AW" batteries ... are these safe to use ???

I'm not new to vaping, but I am new to using Reo's, so this all went over my head.
I would REALLY appreciate someone explaining all the pro's and con's of this "sub ohm" gear to me.

Hi,

The subohm contacts are a good thing even if you don't subohm - it won't affect you, just better conductivity and the ability to subohm if you one day decide to.

Those batteries are fine and many swear by them, but all I use and recommend are AWs. Button tops work best on a REO but the VTC4s will work fine.

Someone will give you a more technical description of the sub ohm contacts. All I know is they rock

yep. the 2013 (old style) cyclone is better than the 2014

the vtc4 is fine to use with the new (aka sub-ohm) contacts.

I've never owned a cyclone, but I know the older style cyclones had hex screws instead of phillips heads. And I think the decks were concave, where the newer ones are flat (I think). Some people prefer hex screws vs phillips, but it's all just preference. I personally like hex screws much more than phillips heads, due to the fact they tend not to back off (or snap your leads from over-tightening). The Reo your mentioning sounds like a solid choice, did he say whether it's an LP or standard reo?

There should be less voltage drop with the S/O contacts, a good thing even if you don't S/O.
Can't speak about VA Cyclone clones, but my authentic 2013 VAC's use M2 x .4 x 5m grub screws. Some folks change one or both of them to metric phillips cap screws, and I think the later VAC's come with the cap screws. Bought both of my VAC's used, at least one of them had both types of screws, but I prefer the original grub screws myself, so that's how I run mine.
Lots of folks like the VTC batts. I have no experience with them though as all I use is AW, and I only buy them from RTD Vapor to be certain they are authentic and not clones.

Since I had a earlier year Cyclone that I did use on my Woodvils buying Adam's newest Gold plated Cyclone I assumed it would work. Not a problem since my LP Woodvil will have a shiny new hat soon enough.

The major difference between the original and 'sub-ohm' setups as far as you are concerned is in the maintenance of the firing pin, by which i specifically mean the bit of metal that hits your battery.

The old ones were made of spring steel and when they oxidised, one would file them to get the crap off and then use Noalox or something to ...... its return.

The new contacts are a gold plated beryllium copper and should NEVER be filed - these get cleaned with alcohol and either Noaloxed or Deoxited (i'm not sure that's a verb - but anyway).
It would be fairer to call the new ones "upgraded" rather than 'sub-ohm', but of course a lot of us immediately saw the potential for reckless low builds.

You can fit the new contacts yourself or pay Rob to fit them if you are unable, but i'd expect old contact Reos to sell for less money by maybe $30 as a result, all other things being equal. You can also just use the old ones - they just need filing and cleaning more frequently.

It sounds like a solid reo. The sub ohm contacts are what comes standard with all reos these days, so that's a good thing. I have a new cyclone, it's a great atty. I prefer the rm2 over all other atties that I have for my reo. The rm2 can be had from reos mods website for a great price.

I'd say go for it!

P.s. The vtc4's are all I use. They are a superb battery and if they are reasonably new, they will serve you perfectly.

All new Reos have the kit installed.

A SL/LP Reo would run you $160, so it depends how battered from use it is. The Cyclones are highly rated and could run you up to $60 for a used one - again depending if they have been drilled for more airflow etc.

Your budget and your lust for that device are the deciding factors. You may also consider becoming a verified member here on ECF too. I'm more trusting of the classifieds here than Ebay for example.

Yup, .. I added them up separately, and if them all work, I'll come out ahead of buying new.

It sounds like a solid setup - all it would be missing is the new adjustable 510 connection (I rather suspect), which you could get Rob to do in the future if you really wanted.

The atty is stellar and the batteries will be authentic (I've seen the vaporshark bats in my wife's gear), perfectly fine for use in a reo.

Slots......after I finally decided to do paypal.....(put it off for years) I went to get verified, and saw that now they have an option for verification that takes longer, but just involves printing a form they send you from ECF, getting it notarized with a proof of addy, and mailing it back in. Might be an option for ya.

The two covers sound like the ones I made! They were made and sent free of charge. Made of fabric that is used for pool table rails. Sturdy and soft! They will keep your REO all nice and cozy!

You won't find sub-ohm kits listed on reosmods. Robert calls them a repair kit. He also calls the copper beryllium gold plated spring, contact "upgraded." A upgraded high heat plastic button is also included in the repair kit.

I always recommend against buying used REOs. I know, I'm that ahole. Why?

Because some people are filthy. They treat their mods poorly and let em get scummy. Chances are even if it had the new contacts, it might still need a rebuild - figure , what, $25 plus shipping.

They can also retain flavors which would also require a rebuild.

My money would be on pm'ing Rob and asking if he has any blems. You'll want the new SS indestructible 510. They all come with that now.

Chances are it'll save ya in the long run but I also figure the used batteries are worthless and as for the Cyclones, they are good attys but again, people abuse them, strip screws, and they can also be very difficult to remove flavors from.

I'd rather spend a lil more (perhaps less considering the above) and get new blem from Rob.

I'm a cynical sob though and there are plenty of good used REO out there but it's like this: feelin lucky today punk? Not you of course but the expression fits when buying a used REO

You can get flavors out by squonking rubbing alcohol through them for a few minutes, a good bath, followed by contact/deoxit maintenance. Cleans flavors out of the tube, 510, and atty.
