Hey guys and girls, I just wanted to start a thread to discuss vaping a higher ohms. I am fairly new to vaping in general but now 1 day into rebuildables. I know when using tanks like the aspire that I have the lower the resistance the better, the 1.6 coil worked much better than the 1.8 etc.. I acquired a kayfun yesterday and went on an adventure in learning what not to do. Long story short I couldn't get a coil to work properly and so I went back to my local shop and let the owner wrap one for me so that I could watch, she made an excellent coil reading at 1.1 ohm, I was happy with it and headed home, by the time I had gotten home though I was getting horrid dry hits so I looked into it at realized that somehow half the wick was not connected so I was basically running at 1.1ohm with half a wick. I thought at this point that I would just rewick it and keep going but she wound the coil so small that I couldn't get the cotton to go through. With this issue I set out to try again with the knowledge I had gained, I used a small pocket screwdriver which at this point I am unsure of the diameter as I do not have a micrometer, anyhow I misfigured and instead of getting the 1.5 I was shooting for I ended up getting 2.4ohm, I went with it and wicked with organic cotton and I have to say this is much better than the 1.1 that she wrapped.

I think by accident I have been converted to a high ohm vaper. I notice an excellent flavor and great vape production on my MVP at 11 watts and can't wait until I get another mod in the future with more wattage but for now I am pretty happy with it and don't think I am going to bother trying to wrap one any lower, this was one of those pleasant accidents.

So, who else uses higher resistance, what are your experiences and opinions?

Since you're using a regulated mod in VW mode, the coil resistance does not have the same effect as on an unregulated mod. Your MVP will increase the voltage with the higher resistance coil in order to reach 11 watts. As long as you do not go so high that the desired wattage requires more volts than what the MVP can produce (5.0 volts), it will be a similar vape. In fact, regulated mods often perform better with a higher resistance coil because there is more wire surface in contact with the wick.

A 2.4 ohm coil on an MVP set to 11 watts will actually give you 10.4 watts because you're hitting the 5.0 volt maximum. You need 5.2 volts to get to 11 watts, slightly more than what the MVP is capable of.

Personally, I've found that 1.8 - 2.0 ohms is the "sweet spot" for builds on my MVP 2.0.
