I starting rebuilding my kanger mpt heads last week. Making 1.8ohm microcoil with 11-wrap, 5/64ths, 28ga kanthal. The coil itself is easy now, can pretty much do it blindfolded. Getting the cotton wick just right though, is a frigging art and it's driving me nuts. Might have a look into the ekowool.

Figured out that you can use Protank heads on the Hypertank, which was a eureka. Have to double up on the plastic chimney washer though.

Just built my 3rd coil
With my eyes getting worse from age I didn't think I would be able to build coils but I bought a magnifying headband thingy and it sure has helped.
was into electronics as a hobby a few decades ago and was a bench tech for ground pounder amps for a few years so I had meters and some Devry edjumacation so I thought why not.
Here is a pic and schematic for my latest (and 3rd only coil)

I have been vaping for almost 3 months after over 40 years of smoking. I bought a RSST to start with and loved it, so much better flavor than with pro tanks that I had to try a dripper and got a nimbus clone. I like the tanks better and got a Kayfun 3.1 clone and really like it, although it is very sensitive to being to low on the ohm's. Had to pick up some really strong readers to help out these old eyes.

Yap, Nub here! But, nearing the 1-month-without-a-real-cigarette mark on my calendar, so I'm feeling spunky! Just ordered an ohm reader, silica, an IGO-L dripper thingy, and a mess of Kanthal. Wasn't really sure what gauge on the wire, so, I got some of each (28, 30, & 32). Should be plenty for me to get my feet wet on the rebuilding side of things. I started vaping with some ProTanks, so I figure I'll be able to practice my mad coiling skills on those too!

So far, I've been so busy reading/researching/learning about my new hobby(?) or....addiction(?)...obsession maybe(!?), that I've not really craved the Marlby's at all! Heavy smoker for 20+ years! Unbelievable! :D

Am really starting to get into this. Have re-coiled my Z-atty pro a few times and am waiting on delivery of a Russian 91% that I want to try a micro-coil on.

My girlfriend looks at me like I'm crazy with all the random stuff I'm getting and keeps asking "What was wrong with the last one?" but I'm finding the hobby side totally interesting, which is weird for a guy that had trouble building Walmart book shelves. There are some great youtube vids explaining it so I haven't had much trouble so far.

I just "rebuilt" my first gen Protank. Took it all apart, cleaned and used the torch to remove residue from the stock coil.

Threaded in some QTip cotton, and added just a little roll of same on top as a "flavor wick" (or in my case stop the gurgle wick).

Tested at 3.1 oHm, same as stock. Vapes great, 3 hours and going strong.

Have a bunch of wire and wick coming in the mail.....I think I can do this!

OK, so curious about advice. Haven't done any rebuilding yet but have read a few things. I have a patriot clone on it's way and am wondering about supplies. What gauge wire is best to use in this type? Going to be using it on a variable voltage/wattage mod not a mechanical. I have read all about the organic cotton and plan to watch some more videos about making the coils, etc but wondering mostly about best gauges of wire to order right now? Thanks! :D
