Any prog rock fans here?

Seems like there's a lot of music lovers and several music threads on the forum. Anybody else into pretentious, overblown, self-indulgent prog rock? Or is it just me?

LOVE Rush... I'm a big Porcupine Tree fan as well, they're incredible!! back in the day I really liked ELP and Yes. I listen to a little bit of everything nowadays.

I think you need to do a half-hour long song before you qualify to be prog rock band.

Tool definitely counts; they're not always my cup of tea, but they have a lot of King Crimson in them. I also dig Coheed, as far as new stuff goes, though I'm a couple albums behind.

I still listen to the old stuff more...especially Genesis. My daughter is a performing arts major, and I recently introduced her to all of Pater Gabriel's theatrics...she thought it was awesome. There may be hope for this generation yet

I guess the stuff I like would be considered old school progressive. I'm a humongous Rush fan I've seen them 11 times (see name & signature). I also like Genesis, Dream Theater, System of a Down, & Muse. By the way nice avatar & signature!!

Totally dig progressive rock. Huge Rush fan here. Geez I remember the first time I heard A Farewell to Kings on a good set of stereo headphones I was totally blown away. Pink Floyd still my favorite though. I also really dig a band called Spock's beard. Their epic "The Great Nothing" off the album V is well...epic!

Spock's Beard is great. I was turned on to them about 15 years ago & was sad to see Neal Morse leave, but they've done some great albums since.

There's an ultra-obscure band called Plastic Overlords that have only done 1 or 2 records, but they're one of the best prog bands of the last 20 years, IMHO. Check them out if you're at all a fan of classic prog from the 70's; they use the musical vocabulary of lots of the classic bands but make it totally their own...
