No, it did not have that extension. And I can see how that would definitely help. That was one of my 2 complaints about it- it was just so short I couldn't find a good grip. So every shot was smacking my hand between the thumb, and/or scraping my finger on the trigger guard. The other thing I disliked was it has such a long hard pull- I suspect that would be for safety reasons. But man it just felt like I was squeezing that trigger forever before it finally fired. I could adapt to that, but the jerk (from no extension) was a deal killer. Now I might have to see if someone has one with the longer aftermarket extension to see how that feels.

Would also like to test out the LC9

It's amazing how much that tiny little extension makes a world of difference - it's seriously like a completely different gun. My other complaint is that trigger pull. That's one of those things you get used to after a couple boxes & you just know where that breaking point is. I would much rather see it with a manual safety or at the very least a decocking lever. After having mine for a couple years, that's really my only complaint. If you shot it without that extension, I'm surprised it took 3 mags to hate it. The LCP is superb at what it was designed for - tiny, print-less & a reasonable caliber that you just don't see in a gun of that size. I think there's only 1 other on the market that can even compare to it, made by Kel Tec, I believe.

If you can afford the extra space, something the size/weight of the LC9 is going to be much better, though. Not only from the better handling, but the extra shots as well.

1st mag- damn this thing is snappy
2nd mag- not sure I'm digging this. Probably should try a 3rd magazine to see if it gets better
3rd mag- um, no!

LOL

But yeah, I'm sure that extension makes a world of difference, because that was my biggest issue with holding it.

The trigger- well I have a couple 10/22's, so I was already expecting that from a tiny Ruger handgun LOL (my 10/22's both have light aftermarket triggers in them now). But yeah, just something a bit of range time would get better with.

Ruger recently released a "Gen 2" model LCP with upgraded sights and the trigger goes to "half-c ock"(lol @ the word c-o-c-k being censored). The "gen 2" is way better than the original LCP. The trigger is still a bit long but it is nowhere near as long nor hard as the original LCP. The "upgraded" sights are nice too. They are much more noticeable than the original model. As I said to Ozwald earlier in this thread, get a Hogue grip to go on the LCP and if it is uncomfortable for you to shoot it without the pinky extension those do help(even though they aren't really my thing). My friend has a "gen 2" LCP with the Hogue grip and it is not all that unpleasant to shoot. We just went to the range yesterday and ran 200 rounds through it between the two of us. It is still a little bit snappy but that's to be expected of a gun of that size.

I'd give the Kel Tec PF9 or the Ruger LC9 a look if you are wanting a slim single stack that is easily concealable. Those are both very good options that will be a little more pleasant to shoot at the range than the LCP. A few more good options if you want to go the deep concealment route would be a S&W M&P Shield or a Springfield Armory XDs. I have owned both and while I like them both I favor the XDs over the Shield. The trigger is better on them and the ergonomics are better on the XDs for me.

I think you are on the right track on going to a range that rents guns and giving them all a try. You'd be surprised with a good holster and gun belt and slightly larger shirts what you can conceal. I conceal carry a full size 1911 and you would never notice it. The only time I print is when I bend over or reach for something in an awkward position; but I avoid doing that because I know I will print if I do that. When you start carrying you will have to do things differently to avoid printing. For example, I am right handed so when I need to reach for something high, like on the top shelf at the grocery store, I reach for it with my left hand to avoid printing or the dreaded "grip slip".

Hope that helps. If there's anything else you would like to know or need help with don't hesitate to send me a PM.

Yeah, we found another one in a thread talking about a classic poem, the Owl & the P-u-s-s-y Cat. Now it's just an ongoing joke. The sights on the original sucked too, but there was an easy fix for that - paint them with light colored nail polish. I had heard that was fixed in the new one, but I hadn't heard about the trigger change. Does the newer one have a safety on it? While the trigger gets some getting used to, I wouldn't want it any shorter or lighter for carrying in condition 1.

Honestly I don't know if it has a safety but I'm almost positive it does not. My friend carries his every day condition 1 and hasn't had any problems. Check out The Alabama Holster Company. They make an awesome kydex pocket holster. I have one for a j frame smith and absolutely love it.

Well... I have a 30" waist LOL. Tough to conceal anything when you have such a small waist. I guess I'll be looking at buying a new bunch of jeans with a 1" larger waist, and possibly some larger shirts to hang over.

I carry the LCP IWB in the same pants I wore before I carried. I'm a 32 waist, so pretty durn close to what you're at. I pretty much only wear Carhartt's so they're a 'loose' fit, but not baggy by any means. Even my summer pants (yes, pants, I'm too Irish for shorts - I could cause air traffic accidents 2 counties over by exposing my legs) it doesn't print at all. That was what sold me on the LCP in the first place.

Edit: That & the weight. It's the only pistol I've ever handled that was so light that I could forget that I was even carrying it.

Just trust me on this. A good holster and a good thick gun belt will keep your weapon nice and tight against your body. My best friend is 6'1 and 130 pounds and he conceals a full size FNP 45 Tactical with a Trijicon RMR on top and Streamlight TLR2 attached to it and you can't tell he's carrying.

Hi boys,

So glad to find this thread!!!

We moved back from Europe a few years ago. My poor husband left his Browning 9mm with a friend in TX before we left, and it has been a nightmare getting it back now that we live in CA. So for Christmas this year, I bought him a sweet customized grip AR 15 and a gorgeous H&K P30. He loves them.

Also picked up a starter 10/22 for my son and a small Ruger .380 for myself. We sold my Beretta Bobcat .25 before leaving...:( Oh, and btw I am 5' tall on my tiptoes and 90 lbs soaking wet!)

No CCW allowed in the land of fruits and nuts, so we are out of luck there. Great suggestion as far as taking a refresher training course though, so thanks!!
We may be the only card carrying members of the NRA within 50 miles of us! :)
May need to move to WY or MT or somewhere in the midwest, although the Northeast seems fairly laid back about self-defense and right to arms. Still, NH seems really cold....

Thinking of getting a reliable revolver or two next. Looking at S&W. Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially something with minimal kickback for me.

Thank you God for a free country!

Merry Christmas everyone!!
