I have had terrible insomnia (think, 4am bedtimes) since I started vaping. And I use zero-nic after 4pm. No other changes in lifestyle etc. My major worry is that there's unlabeled nicotine content in my zero-nic.... And I wish the Sleepy Time Green Tea from Nhaler came in 0 nic!

But, insomnia is a natural part of my life... I've tried most Rx and non-Rx drugs for sleep out there and the only thing that even mildly assists me in getting to sleep before morning every single night is melatonin. (Yes, I should just be a freelancer...) It's simply gotten harder since vaping.

Melatonin isn't a wonder-drug -- but studies are showing how important melatonin regulation in the body is to so many functions: mood, emotion, sexuality, attention and alertness, etc. (Also, for some people it can cause a mild depression when taken in too high doses. It's best to start low -- you may not need more than 1-2mg. And its long-term effects have not been studied well in children and adolescents, so best not to feed it to your kids and mess with their natural cycles.)
Note in using melatonin that our bodies begin to secrete it after dark -- not right before bedtime. So dividing your dose into small portions (a few manufacturers make doses smaller than 1mg) earlier in the evening can ease your transition into bed even better.

One thing to keep in mind when taking Melatonin is that for many people (myself included) it tends to make you have very vivid nightmares. 8-o

For those having trouble sleeping, the possible, and likely problem is the lack of MAOI's in e-liquid. The nicotine in tobacco has other alkaloids besides nicotine. Think of them as co-factors of nicotine that can change the way smoking effects some of us. Smoking tobacco is a two hit wonder. One is stimulating, that's the nicotine part, and the other is relaxing, and that would be the MAOI's. E-liquid has only the nicotine.

On the other side one of the fist signs of to much nicotine is sleepiness. Weird ha.

To get a better idea of what's going on you may want to read DVap's blog.

Wow, great thread really glad I found it. I've had a lot more energy overall since I ditched the cancer sticks (have to say I've enjoyed it for the most part), a bit of insomnia both falling and staying asleep but nothing too bad until the last couple nights. I've been sick as hell with a cold or something and have been laying around the house and probably vaping more out of boredom. I got 3 or 4 hours last night, and have been up since 7:30 this morning (it's 2am here) and feel like I could run a marathon.

I knew there was a reason I ordered that sleepy time sampler! Now if I can just find it among the scores of little bottles I've accumulated without waking the wifey.... Time to fire up the 510 I've been trying to avoid in case that was keeping me up.... Bring on the crazy dreams.

The Sleepy Time from Drew is great and my wife uses it every night to help her nod-off.

One of the active ingredients in Drew's Sleepy-time Lung is Melatonin. It's an over-the-counter "drug" that the body produces on its own to initiate the "fall asleep" process. Our doctor recommended it years ago for our child... so we've always had a bottle lying around. Now that I'm exclusively vaping, I will take one Melatonin before I go to bed and that "solves" the problem.. with no side effects or drowzy feeling in the morning.

If you do a little research I think you will find that the stuff is inexpensive, completely safe, and pretty dern effective.

$.02

Be aware that some people have nightmares on melatonin if u find this happening a lot of health food stores also carry L tryptophan (not sure of spelling) one or the other of them should work.

I have no trouble falling asleep at night vaping all day long on 36mg TW, but, I do get those wickedly vivid freaky dreams every so often. More now than I ever did before. Actually, I don't even remember dreaming that much over the past decade or two, but I have had some pretty wild dreams since I started vaping in June. 8-o
Wow, funny you say that, the past two weeks Ive had some scarey real, scarey vivid drea,s and I too, started vaping in June! Hmm...

I had sleep issue's before I started vaping. It's hard to say as my sleep is been whacked out for years now. However I have noticed I am taking less sleepy stuff, and falling asleep naturally more often then not :) I was super amped up for a week into vaping and was bouncing off walls! Since lower my mg :) I have calmed down a lot hehe I remember when I quit smoking cigarettes in the past for like a year once, and a few months here and there. I always had burst of energy, and zest for life. Somehow I always ended up back on them, still don't get why. Maybe lower the mg and use a chill vape before bed?

Its a stimulant. It will most likely keep you awake. One reason people vape/smoke in the early morning.

Vaping right before sleeping is like taking a 5 hour energy shot. Spread out your last nic vape at least an hour before you actually attempt to sleep... I put off about two hours and just vape no nic before sleeping. The first few days I had this problem, adjusted that and falling asleep faster then I did when I was on analogues.

I used to sleep sooo good, a train could run through the house and I'd still be sleeping. Seriously though, I've had my alarm go off, and barely wake to my girlfirend shakine me like a mad woman. But the past couple months, I can lay in bed for hours awake. I get 1/2 hours of sleep and I'm back up for a half an hour, another 1/2 hours, etc. I get maybe 5 hours on a good night. And Ambien, does nothing to help either...

Before I started vaping I would take a nap every afternoon. Now I never take a nap and I sleep about 4 hours. I go to sleep good because I take Ambiem 10 mg. but after about 4 hours I'm up for the rest of the night. I never get tired and I wired the rest of the day. As long as it doen't affect me during the day I'm fine. I vape 36 all day and into the night. I just can't make myself lower my nic at night. I quess I too addicted to nicotine.
