There is no reason you can't produce bar stock in damascus. I don't think most artisan knife makers have a big hydraulic forge hammer to do it economically. Metal foundries don't make it because it's too time consuming and expensive.

You can get damascus steel slides for 1911 pistols, that blank is more than enough to make a GG from... it has to come from somewhere You gotta pay to play though.

Imeo's machine shop would hate him for having them machine titanium... there aren't that many machine shops in the world that can do that

oh, and usually the pattern is revealed by exposing the steel to an acid bath, the acid etches and reacts with the different steels at different rates which causes the pattern to become visible.

I have zero damascus steel, I have studied it extensively, and I certainly love the knives/ pistols/ tools that are made from it. It's an eye catcher for sure, and I would, in all honestly, rather have a damascus steel GG than a Gold plated one... but that's an easy choice for me to make, as I will (in all likelyhood) never have to opportunity to own either

its easy for the machine shop but too expensive for me and you too Rick. Its a matter of cost. I dont want to increase GG's cost more.and to say the truth, there is no reason for that now. I have too much work with the new inventions, that I cant make special material editions right now.

Well it was worth a try.

But I did get a request from another mod-maker for some info on copper mokume. Maybe that'll work out.
