Well I was thinking since the main killer of batteries is a little bit of liquid getting on the internal switch, what if we took a nonconductive cleaner such as this 141B Replacement and cleaned the hell out of the battery. Looking at this all you would need to do is blow it out with some canned air afterwards, the MSDS does say can cause liver and kidney damage but thats prolonged exposure to the fumes, its fast drying and leaves no residue. Its just a thought...
