Options are good. There are so many options out there today for somebody looking for different sorts of vaping hardware. Some people might be happy with a little 808 kit and other people might be happy with a $500 custom mod. As long as whatever each individual is using is working for them, then great! I wouldn't judge any fellow vaper based on their hardware, but I have to admit that I remain suspicious of cloud chasers. I also admit that I don't know that much about it, and maybe that's why I'm making this post.

Besides making big clouds, what benefit does cloud chasing give somebody?

I read that in some cloud chasing competitions, the contestents use 100% VG unflavored. So it's certainly not the taste that these people are after.

So, is it all just about blowing big clouds and showing off? Basically being a poser?

The cloud comps are different than normal day to day vaping, so while I don't like cloud chasing I don't count the comps as the same thing (I hate the comps but that is due to the people running them not the people in them).

Some of the people who do enter cloud comps are not normally could chasers but chasing the prizes offered.

I don't judge the ones at the comps for it. I judge the ones that do it in public walking down the street or the ones that never smoked and vape just for cloud chasing.. Cloud chasing isn't for me, I'm more of a "Flavor chaser".

The flavor part doesn't seem like a good complaint about it honestly. I vape 100% VG Unflavored. Nicotine and vg is my go to vape in my devices.

I second NancyR, in comps some people might be chasing the prizes.

Some clouds comps where I live, they're strictly monitored by employees. Fresh Batteries, build on the spot and builds checked before using by employees of the shops. I just don't find a joy in it personally.

Some are posers, some are not primarily after clouds but do clouds sometimes.

Just what is an average vaper?
How much juice to they use daily?
How many watts do they vape with?
What is their nic level?
PG/VG ratio?

Some of us vape to stay off of cigs and are satisfied with mediocre clouds, such as me with an Evod on an Ego batt. I started to quit smoking and save some money as well. Started on 808 sticks and cartomizers, moved up to 808 clearomizers on 808 threaded ego style batteries. Then recently to Evod/ego setups. I like being able to recoi my evods and save more money along with my DIY juice. I have no real desire to hang with the vaping crowd and blow clouds. I just enjoy my vapes and flavors and not smoking.

A lot of throw away ecigs and cartridges are sold out there are those users average?

Am I an average vaper? I have no idea.

I'm not worried about them. I'm just curious to hear what people on this forum have to say about them.
You are more than just curious about "them". You admit that you are suspicious of their motives.

"I read that in some cloud chasing competitions, the contestents use 100% VG unflavored. So it's certainly not the taste that these people are after."

What is your problem with using 100% VG unflavored? I have used 95/5 VG/H2O unflavored with 10mg nicotine every day for almost three years. Does this make me a poser?

The negative I see in cloud chasing is that the non vapers see them as an average vaper which does not bode well for future leglislation.
And we will have ecig regulations, etc, the only question is how hard we get hit.
The non vapers do not see we quiet vapers who vape only where cigs are allowed, etc.
I did contact all of my state and federal legislators asking them to take it easy on vaping as it did get me off of a 35 year cig habit.

Also I have no personal problem with Non smokers taking up vaping as long as they are an adult.
I do not think it is a particularly intelligent decision since vaping cannot be as healthy as not vaping, but who am I to judge since I smoked cigs for 35 years. Adults are entitled to make their own mistakes.

And I use 80% vg at 12 to 18mg of nic.

I certainly don't care about what happens in any cloud chasing competition, and people are free to vape whatever flavor they please, even unflavored if they wish.

When I think of poser, I'm thinking of somebody who is blowing giant clouds in public, just to be a jerk, basically being a bad vape ambassador.

I'm all for vaping in public, and I even mentioned in another thread that I thought that vaping should be allowed practically everywhere, but I can see how certain cloud chasers could be giving all vapers a bad name.

It isn't like what they are doing is anything new...

I can provide a really good example, but this is *FAR* from the only example:

Go to youtube and search "306 atomizer". Pay particular attention to videos from grimmgreen, basilray, and anyone else whose name you might recognize and look at the dates on those videos. They are 3 and 4 years old. --> Watch the vids and note how many times the folks in the videos talk about the clouds they are producing or the warmth and density of the vapor (also note how even the best 306 on whatever device back then doesn't even compare to a lot of "low end" set ups available today).

This is how vaping & vaping technology continues to move forward. There are folks who tweak, modify, push the envelope, and try new things. Without those folks, we would all be stuck with 808's.

People are certainly not free to vape anywhere. There are laws regarding where people can vape legally. Being a jerk or a bad "vape ambassador" doesn't have anything to do about the amount of exhaled vapor if vaping is prohibited by law. I would be more concerned about someone vaping a cigalike while hanging around a school playground than a cloudchaser watching reruns of Trailer Park Boys.

Are people that mod their cars posers? I mean those trick wheels don't make it ride any better right?

You don't need to be suspicious of cloud chasers - they are humans too. Reach out and talk to one, they like peanuts so I've heard.

I guess that I'm still "stuck" with an 808, because that's what I'm using.

I actually think that mine is fine, and I haven't had any desire to upgrade to anything else yet.

Even Kanger found benefit in others innovation. What is available for an 808 threaded battery today is nothing at all like what it was 4, 5, 6 years ago. No resemblance whatsoever.
