BT can still advertise in magazines, I'd imagine some magazines refuse to sell ad space to them (Maybe not?) but the magazines I read (Gun mags, car mags, etc) still have cigarette adds.

The funny thing is, most of them don't look like they have changed in 30 years. I have a bunch of old magazines with tobacco adds in them, and compared to recent ones I've seen they are almost the same. I think the last one I saw was a non-menthol newport ad, I found it on the web here:

Doesn't that look like an add from the 80s or something? Just kind of makes me laugh!

In any case, it's definitely not a fad that's going away. Also it's actually quite bit different than smoking really. It's nicotine only vaporized. That vaporizing stuff is what's going to expand as well. What stuff is up to the publics interest and may fad in and out. I'm not too impressed with nicotine by itself. It only helped me not smoke. I suppose it affects everyone differently but the only relaxing effect it has for me is when quenches my need for the fix...but the days I vape indiscriminately have me up all night. Like tonight. That sounds like a upper to me. Not a mellow out and chill. Still, if I don't over do it I enjoy the habit. Shrug. I wish they could realize how so different from smoking it really is.

Everyone makes some pretty good points. I wasn't really thinking about emerging markets whose governments may never try to stop people from smoking. For the record, I'm not saying that it would be a bad thing if non-smokers started vaping, especially with 0 nicotine. I think most of us on here enjoy vaping more than we enjoyed smoking. I think someone who never smoked would enjoy it as well. What I see happening (if the government doesn't stop it) is vaping becoming like cigars were a few years ago. It has a lot of the same elements in the variety of choices and cool looking accessories. I could see vape lounges being very successful businesses.

I don't think it's, "Let's have our customers stop smoking our Newports and vape our e-cig instead." I think it's more of, "Okay, so we are losing some of our Newport customers to e-cigs so let's develop our own so we keep the smokers and pick up the ex-smokers, too." I think they know that everyone isn't going to stop smoking, so they are secure in that market, but now they are picking up a share of the market that does quit by using vaping. A win-win for them.

When Marlboro and Camel introduced their crap version of snus they marketed it as something one can use when they couldn't smoke. Not as a means to quit.

Funny thing is snus has been around longer than cigarettes.

That's the same approach they are using to market e-cigs. I think it's a short sighted approach. They can't legally advertise the smoking cessation benefits, and probably never will be able to, but in states like the one I live in, I'm sure vaping will eventually be banned everywhere that cigarettes currently are. They won't have bogus EPA reports to fall back on like they do with second hand smoke, but many people will find the vapor "annoying", and today the government doesn't have an issue with banning things that annoy people.

Camel Snus is horrible.

I would mind trying some authentic stuff from across the pond, but I'm more than happy vaping :p

I quit smoking with snus in 2010 with no effort. I got a coupon for free Marlboro, tried it, then did some research and found real snus at a cigar shop near me that carried general. It's a good thing to have in any vapers arsenal when you can't vape.

Log On

They have a store locator. Make sure to call the stores first to make sure they still carry it.

Buy Snus, Order Swedish snus online world wide - BuySnus.com

Fun to see how many different varieties there are. There you can order directly from Sweden.

The FDA will never approve vaping as a smoking cessation method.
The FDA will never consider your choice on such matters. You don't have any say.

It's a police-state style regulatory agency where "Smoking Cessation" or "Harm Reduction" is only seen in black & white. Exercising your power of choice does not fit their legal framework. And as long as it fails to recognize the options I deem best for myself, I will fail to abide by their regulations.

I think people still want to enjoy the sensation that tobacco can bring, but they are now more likely to start using illegal drugs than cigarettes.
Non-sequeteur to me.
