Maybe you folks can help me. I'm having trouble with dry hits, I've tried a few different setups.

My non-resistance wire is 30 gauge silver. I'm using a tsaf to join the wires, and an ibtanked 22mm tank.

I've tried 3mm silica, doubled over, 30 gauge kanthal with a range of different resistances from 1.0 to 1.5
I've tried 1.5mm ekowool, 2mm ekowool with the 30 gauge kanthal, same resistance range
I've tried 2mm silica with both 32 gauge kanthal and 30 gauge.

My juice is a 50/50 blend. It just doesn't seem to feed or wick right. I constantly have to take dry pulls to get any juice in there, which eventually floods the whole thing and it gurgles when I use it.

What am I doing wrong here?

The inner chamber needs to feed liquid to a certain level. As such, take care in not blocking the feed hole with wicking material. The wicking material should NOT extend beyond the threads of the base unit.

Take a look from the top of the Diver. The wick channel should be perpendicular to the feed hole. You should be able to see light coming in through the hole and it should be unobstructed.

I push it in as far is it'll go. After I put the tube on, I can see light through the hole (I've got a mark on the base so I can line it up right).

I'll try to take a picture of my current setup. With the 3mm silica (which is the stuff I have the most of), I've also tried only doubling it up for the coil section, so that it isn't doubled up outside of the ceramic cup.

What gauge kanthal do you all use? I use 30gauge for most of my other RBAs just because I'm not a sub-ohm guy and 32 seems to be too resistant for mechanicals. However, with 30gauge there's like 5 or 6 wraps to get 1.4 ohms, which maybe is too many for that little cup?

For all of my Diver builds, I have been using 32g Kanthal A-1 and 32g Nickel for the NR legs.

I have had no issues using either 3mm German silica, 2mm standard silica or 1mm ekowool. These were all doubled over and trimmed short, just a bit longer than the ends of ceramic wick slots.

I had the same problem until I found out I was filling it wrong. Be sure the juice hole is sticking out of the bottom of the tank when you fill. Try filling just half way then slide the Diver the rest of the way into the tank. So far mine has been wicking good now. It does still flood a bit when it sits for very long but a couple of drags clears that up.

Yes, as I have mentioned before, I never completely fill the tank. Figure for a complete 1/8" gap of space at the top of the tank.

I pre measure my kanthal resistance wire prior to making a coil. For mechs, I use between 1" to 1-1/4" of kanthal, which will yield me between 1 ohm to 1.5 ohms. For my regulated mods, I use about 2" of kanthal, which yields some 2.5 ohms of resistance.

I don't worry about the number of wraps, as the different wicking materials and combinations will change that from coil to coil. I focus on the desired amount of resistance that I want, which is dictated by the length of resistance wire used.

I'm not worried about number of wraps to resistance, I pre-measure mine too. I'm more worried about the number of wraps making the coil too large. I think maybe I'll play around more with the 32 gauge.

Hrmm, I thought they were, but maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean. In the first picture, if I fold them down, they are just to the threads.

That's where it should be but it's kind of hard to tell from the pic. Are you using silica? What size? The wick going through the coil looks pretty thin.

Edit: Never mind. I see you've tried different sizes. If it were me, and this is just my 2 cents but I would ditch the silica and try ecowool 2mm and 32 ga kanthal.
