You did pick somewhat weird tobaccos to start out with. 555 is a vanilla almond tobacco and some 555's are very nutty. RY4 is a vanilla caramel tobacco - some are less sweet and some are almost like candy.

Did you get any tobacco samplers to see what you like? Vapor4Life has (i think) 3 tobacco sampler packs, each with 1 carto each of 5 flavors.

I'm glad you brought that up. I wish there definitions someplace about what each flavor supposedly tastes like. I had no idea until just now that 555 was nutty or that Ry4 was sweet.

Thanks! What do you recommend for a non-menthol tobacco? I only smoke menthol and it's hard to pick out non-menthol.

I heard great things about this but it's out every time I check.

I to have had bad luck with one of my batteries suddenly dying after just 2 days of use.. i think its partly due to juice seeping into it. i ordered a blu ecig because ive seen it on tv and it was the first thing google recommended for me. But so far other than a dead battery its just fine for me. Eventually i will probably upgrade to something a bit better that will suit my need.

Do you have to clean the atty on cartos - even the prefilled ones?

I haven't other that a few quick "dry burns" to be sure it's not full of primer. I don't think you can clean prefilled ones without losing the juice in there. You can clean cartomizers, but I don't. I just use the same flavor liquid in them over and over again until they just don't taste good/right anymore.

The atty in a carto doesn't need to be cleaned like an plain atomizer. It's an all-in-one piece. I just rinse my out in the sink under hot running water once a week or so and let them dry for a couple of days or use a hair dryer to make it dry quicker.

Prolly one of several things happened or a combo of them.

1. Dripped onto a new atty without burning the factory juice off. That's stuff is really nasty.
2. Cartos were bad, weak, or semi-dry.
3. The juice purchased was a bad batch or it was simply not a flavor that they liked.

Shouldn't pre-burn (manual batty) or pull on a blank carto (auto batty). That can burn the filler and ruin it. Just fill it up and vape. BUT...if it's an aout, you should do a few quick primer puffs to fires the atty in the carto and get the vapor started. Then start regular pulls...slowly. Slow steady pulls on any e-cig will help the VP and the flavor a great deal. Fast and hard is not the correct method.

New attys should be blown and cleaned first before any juice is dripped or a cartridge is attached and used. After that, you're good to go.

Prefilled 555 and RY4 cartos and were from vaporkings; liquid and blank cartos were from Liberty Flights. All of these options seemed much more like cigar tobacco to me - very harsh with a bad aftertaste. Was also very suprised at the "heavy" throat hit with little vapor.

If I am not mistaken, LF only sells liquid that is either 100% VG or 100% PG. You probably purchased 100% PG liquid, which would indeed give you heavy TF and very little vapor.

Just in my first 10 days or so vaping, I have sampled about 30 different juices from 4 different makers. The vast majority of them have sucked. Unfortunately, that appears to be how things are. Buy some samples from several of the vendors that seem most highly regarded and you should find a few that you like. Don't put much faith in the reviews posted on the websites of the vendors because those appear to have been written by crazy people. :)

If you can stomach menthol, it is pretty hard to screw up one of those. Find some generic menthol and vape that until you find some better stuff.

Taste is subjective. For instance, my parents loved brussel sprouts. I think they taste like crap.

Mort,
I got lucky with the juice that came with my kit. I actually liked the tobacco-ish flavor and lucked out with the niccotine strength I picked. I think, once you find a juice you like at the strength you like, you'll prefer e-cigs to analogs.

Mort,

I found the tobacco flavors horrible too! Please try some samples of non-tobacco flavors from another vendor and give it a another chance! These vendors off small, cheap samples to try:

Vapors Etc. - Vapor Sampler - 5 for $6.95
TopVapor USA E-Liquid - Madvapes $2 a piece
E Liquid - E Liquid 5ML - PG - Others - Liberty Flights- $2.39 after you click the 20% off banner at top
FreedomSmokeUSA - FreedomSmokeUSA - $2-3 a sample

I quit easily and happily using dessert flavor juices:) I smoked for 30 yrs and absolutely love my sweet vapor!

I would almost bet it is the juice and choice of flavor as well as....your first few days of vaping
can feel like it is kinda harsh on your throat. Do not inhale into the throat like you do with your regular cig for the first day or so. Just inhale into the mouth and blow out. It takes a little adjustment period of a day or two and gradually increase the inhale into the throat. I had a hard problem the first day or so and then things lined out very well.

The largest expense I have had....has been the juice purchases to see what I did and
did not like. It is just part of what you have to do. Just because I like it, does NOT mean
you will like it. You need to buy juice from a couple more different vendors and buy small bottles to see what works and what does not.

I like gourmet vapors and I believe that they have recently reduced their prices as well as they have a 20% off.

If you spend a little time reading, you will find out many of us have great
and some not so great experiences until we lined out what worked for us.
It is not as simple as walking into the store and buying a pack of your favorite cigs...
.but the benefits of vaping far exceed the little bumps in the road you may have at first.

You appear to have a good system of PV's, just not good juice and perhaps cartomizers.
They are different as well. Boge cartomizers seem to have a very high rating and are very
easy to use and fill. That's what I use.

Don't give up! Rome was not conquered in a day.
Lots of good things waiting on you, if you continue to give this a try... and work out the bumps.

Good Luck!!!!! and don't you dare give up!!!!!!

I agree with the previous posters. You really got to give vaping some time. You found a great forum for advice and you have made a good initial investment. You should try a few more juices. I ended up picking some things I really didn't think I would like and loved them. Taste is very subjective, but vaping is wonderful!
Good luck to you!

Swedishfish, I tried the honey flue cured tobacco, and it's the only one I've thrown away, even after letting it steep for a couple of weeks. I just couldn't stand it. But, you might like it.

Awesome vapor has some tobacco flavors I like, their Western, Tobacconist, and USAs favorite blend. My Freedom Smokes Marlboro flavor is also excellent, but they have a hard time keeping it in stock.

Thanks so much! I'm trying to pick out juice for my Mom. Which is next to impossible to do for another person, but I like the way it sounds. I keep reading about juices and I order them and get a 'yuck' from her. I'm doing everything I can to keep her happy vaping. I liked the first juice I ever tried, but like I said before she's a little more high maintenance with her vaping.

1. Don't use pre-filled cartomizers anymore. They're usually bad-tasting. Buy pre-mixed juice and try to pick flavors you think you'll like.

2. I found the flavors I liked within a week. They happen to be RY4 and Apple from FreedomSmokeUSA.com. I mixed them together and that's what I've been vaping for the last four months. That's all I vape all the time, except I also started adding Caramel and Nut Mix (both from FSUSA) in mid-October. It's a great taste, but I'm not recommending you to try these flavors. Just letting you know what worked for me. RY4 (or any of the RY juices) are different from each supplier, and I happen to think RY4 from FSUSA is the best RY4 (and the best juice when mixed with Apple, Caramel, and Nut Mix pre-mixed juices).

3. Cleaning cartomizers - It works fine when they're new, but after they've been refilled several times, cleaning them doesn't help much (it actually degrades the filler inside). After about 15 refills, it's time to throw them away (when I used to use cartomizers, I quit trying to clean them, because it was a waste of time). If and when you clean them, you should use a 10mL syringe and rubber cone (available at Walmart, a children's medicine kit for about $1.76). This will allow you to push air through the fillers to remove all the excess water, after you've plunged out the old juice.

4. Drying cartomizers - Place them on a flat pan in the oven at 220 degrees for a few minutes. This works great and is the best and quickest way to dry them completely.

5. When you get tired of using cartomizers, consider using just an atomizer and drip tip (as a mouthpiece, actually). The flavor is better, without having to taste the filler, it's quick and easy to drip in 3 drops (which is about one cigarette worth or about 9 drags), and then you won't have to buy blank (or empty) cartomizers and mess around with refilling them, waiting overnight for the juice to mix in with the filler to get better flavor, and wondering if you should clean them. I used to think using atomizers would be a hassle, but after three months or so, I discovered that I should have just started with atomizers. Once you get the hang of using atomizers, it's so much better.

Good luck! It's worth it to hang in there and keep looking for the juice you like.

mort - I haven't tried many Vapor4Life cartos. Out of my WOW tobacco sampler I tried the 555 and the WoWboy so far. WOWBoy wasn't for me as a carto - I usually love tobacco w/ cocoa but Wowboy was all dark notes, no twanging highs in the flavor at all (nor any sweetness). However it has good TH best I can tell and I would love to buy it as a juice and play with it a bit - like add some kind of high note like vanilla or orange. I wish their shipping was cheaper... Glad I just retried it though - definitely possibilities.

I was a lights and ultralights smoker and I got the Vapor4Life as a second PV just out of curiousity about the cartos. Ends up the cartos provide more of a hit than I wanted. So I usually vape light setups (M401 which gives little TH and a Vapor4Life battery w/ DSE901 atty and carts which gives a much softer airier hit than a carto).

Just chiming in for a newb. Don't buy prefilled cartos! Try some 'normal' flavors. Unfortunately, you picked some very different flavors to start off with. Many people like those flavors but if I had tried them in the beginning, I may have been put off, too. I didn't like them then and I don't like them now.

Brussels sprouts are awesome. You are a crazy person. :)

But seriously, I agree that taste is subjective and I certainly expect someone to like something I don't or to even find nuances in a juice (particularly a complex juice) that I do not. However, when someone says that a certain banana bread juice tastes "exactly like the real thing" when it, in fact, tastes exactly like those nasty banana soft candies and nothing at all like a real banana or banana bread, that person is either a shill or a lunatic. :)
