Watched a segment on the news the other night. All of the people they showed vaping had huge clouds of vapor. If I didn't know any better and I saw a person displaying that type of behavior near me I would be worried/annoyed. Which is why the news showed these people looking quite smug with their smoke machines! We need a little bit of common sense in what we are doing!

May be the smoke is not harmful for them as much as the analogs affect on passive smokers but the smell may not be good. let's say that you are on a diet and someone in your office is drinking coffee, the smell may disturb you. And if you are a programmer this may even ruin your concentration.

I totally agree with the perfume of the ladies. It may not be an issue in the office area but the elevators. You should inhale it more inside that small chamber and think of all the mixed heavy smell without the ventilation system. You simply can't breathe.

Are electronic cigarettes medical devices? No. No one has a right to vape on property that they don't own. The compound I work at is completely tobacco free- e-cigs prohibited as well. Not on the property, not in our vehicles and not within site of the property. Are the rules extreme? Maybe. Are they legal? Yes. They own the property and I am an employee. If I don't like the rules, I am free to work elsewhere. I can wait until I take my long break, so I can leave the property. If I can't go several hours without a vape, maybe it is time to rethink vaping.

if they allow vaping in the smoking section, they need to provide you with reasonable accommodations to Vape without being subjected to smoke IF you have a medical condition/disability of acute sensitivity to smoke. The ADA prevents discrimination against people who have an acute sensitivity to smoke. It has nothing to do with what ecigarettes are or are not.

No, they don't. It is one's choice whether to vape or smoke, or not. No one has to go out and vape with the smokers. If they choose to, they accept the risks associated with their choice. Are people who can't control their vaping disabled?

If accommodations did have to be made, said business would simply prohibit smoking and vaping.

Use it as an opportunity to educate those still smoking to the benefits (health, financial, etc) and freedoms of vaping rather than smoking.

I feel like John the Baptist sometimes, just emerged from the wilderness, speaking the gospel at the top of my lungs to any and all who will listen.

If I were smart, I would have opened a store myself or bought stock somewhere because I know I have converted 100s so far, or at least got them thinking that quitting is a real possibility as opposed to a pipe dream.

The other day I was at the airport in Munich and asked whether I could vape there. They told me to use the toilet as they had banned vaping as it let "real" smokers to lit their cigarettes. He said from the distance it was difficult to tell whether somebody was vaping or smoking and they were sick and tired of having to tell the smokers to extinguish their cigarettes. Also, in regards to your office, I assume as long as the side effects for non vapers are not crystal clear they can not allow it.

Not sure you guys have read this article:
E-cigarettes are as harmful as cigarettes and could cause cancer, claims study | Mail Online

Guess as long as the health implications are not clear I at least can understand that they do not allow it.

By the way...just joined. Have been off cigs since the 3rd of January, happily vaping now.
Stef.

Konstantinos Farsalinos is a greek doctor cardiolog as I take it. He devotes his research on vaping and e-cigarettes. I follow him on twitter and meant to ask him about this research but before that I have seen his answer. "I can produce as much formaldehyde as i want from an e-cigarette. Just over-burn it.But none could stand that taste" What is more this material is on air too.
But I am with them if any kid is around one should be very carefull you know they are curious creatures and no wander they would try it in first chance. so e-cigs must be kept away from children (I remember my daughter had mixed 2 medicine by spilling them and we did not know how much is absent or whether she drank any in one instance and once she had drank a half bottle of antihistaminic when I was at work when her mother noticed she was asleep and doctor had said we could only hope she wakes up. woke up thank god but you see you leave them with e-cig and they will try everthing possible may even drink the liquid.

Indeed! I only made the change because one of the ladies was vaping out with the smokers and was chatting about it a week or so ago; yesterday, she, I and two others were all out there vaping together, tasting each others juices (that sounds so wrong out of context!) and swapping what we've learned...while the few smokers earwigged on.

I don't have an issue with being relegated to the smoking section - the UK is still rather 'gray area' when it comes to vaping, and the company hasn't explicitly banned it, but it's easy to assume if we challenged it, they would anyway - because a) it's much more social to head out there (even if I'd quit outright I'd still head out there, it's much more fun than the break area), b) the opportunity to convert more to the vaping way, and c) it's courteous as far as I'm concerned when it's not about laws and health risks but other workers' comfort, same as not dousing yourself in perfume/aftershave at your desk.

I have been vaping anywhere I want, as long as there is no explicit policy in place. At my work I double checked the employee handbook and made sure there was no regulations prohibiting their use and was happy to see that there was nothing in place yet. If they make new rules I will follow them but it will sadden me. I have sat at my desk for the past year, not leaving like the analog's and at say 20 minutes a day just for smoke breaks I have saved the company 86 hours of productivity during the past year. No one ever complains about smell and the only comment has been on the device itself (ok there was the one time someone thought I my cube was on fire but that was more funny than anything else)... We need real medical studies on the effects of second hand exposure so that we have the facts behinds us to help defend us against restrictive policies.:vapor:

Check out the Drexel study on the CASAA website for real studies.

My company has as well banned vaping in the office, which I actually support. However, I don't care to be lumped in with the smokers. Originally, it was because I didn't want to be tempted back. Now, its more because after 2 months of not smoking, I can't stand the smell, and do not want the smell on me.

On breaks, I will go to the designated smoking section, and I stand up-wind. :) I know several stealth vapers, but I worry that doing so will make it tougher on the rest of us. There's already been a rumor that one employee was terminated after vaping at their desk.

While I agree that excessive perfume use can make for a miserable working environment, I have worked with far more men that bathe in their cologne/aftershave/Axe body spray that trail a stench like Pepe Le Pew.

I vape at my desk. I have converted three other smokers in my office so there are a few of us who do. We are all careful not to vape outside of our offices, so as to not make a big issue of it by vaping in common areas. There are only two smokers left there, and they hate going outside while we vape away in our comfy offices. The principle owner of the company is quite supportive and has no issue with the practice. Sometimes working for a small business has very nice benefits.

If I have a visitor in my office I do not vape, unless it is a fellow vaper.

So far as I know there are only 2 vapers at my office -- I go outside, the other girl vapes at her desk - but then her desk is in a back corner where people seldom go and there are always people walking by my office. One of the reasons I go out is that it gives me a break from my desk. I typically only vape 2 or 3 times during the day at work, so it's not a big deal for me. I just use a higher nicotine juice when I'm at work. At home I use the lowest liquid I can find and often even mix it with 0% liquid and vape almost constantly!

When I first started vaping I had just taken a new job and found out shortly thereafter that I was not allowed to vape ON PROPERTY ANYWHERE as they considered it a "tobacco product" and those were not permitted on property (this went for smokers, dippers, chewers as well). So I did the only thing I could, I LEFT THAT JOB IMMEDIATELY. This is a job, NOT DAYCARE. Anyhow, my job now I am allowed to vape inside, as well as outside. My colleagues take a 5-10 minute smoke break every 90 minutes on average. I happily stay inside and keep working, having a vape here and there as needed.

Outstanding. Simply outstanding.

No vaping allowed? No problem. I am outta here!

A+.

I work in a hospital and vape in the bathroom during a "potty break". It's a completely smoke free facility, BUT WE DO ALLOW PATIENTS TO VAPE IN THEIR BEDS with our permission. Weird. So far only a couple have and they vaped Blu. It's a beautiful sight to walk past a patients room and seeing that blue glow lit up and the patient content!
As for me, keeping my ego-t in my scrub pocket keeps the liquid warm and I think helps it steep better. Before vaping, I could never have grappled a puff or two with analogs in the bathroom!
