I just have to put this out there and hope to not offend. I have only been vaping for about 3 months and have been floored at the numerous bans being put into place around the world. I smoked for over 35 years and had no success with any alternative cessation products. I found vaping and dropped smoking like the proverbial "bad habit"!

What my post is about is that if this system actually works with the amount of success I have seen in this forum, then why are legislators so hell bent on banning it in so many different parts of the world? Is it the revenue loss, the genuine health risks (fact or fictional) or the constant need for more control and power over the public?

I would like to hear what my fellow vapers think!

Money and power. That's what it always comes down to. Big tobacco is lobbying against because it costs them money. Pharmaceutical companies don't want ecigs around because it cost them money. Decisions made in capitols has absolutely nothing to do with our best interests. It's all about the best interests of the companies that are able to line pockets and fatten bank accounts.

Ecigs turn smokers into ex-smokers. Ex-smokers do not pay sin taxes, which governments -- federal, state, and local -- have come to rely on to fund essential (unrelated to smoking) programs.

Ex-smokers who stopped smoking without buying pharmaceutical company NRT products mean pharma companies are losing profits.

Tobacco Control would not exist without smokers and the sin taxes they pay.

It's always about money.

Lots of great responses. The ecig doesn't put enough money in Politicians Pockets. They have no understanding of ecigs and therefore they are more evil. Government 'By The People' has long been dead. Government has been 'By The Dollar' for years. The only time the Government does anything 'For The People' is to get their faces on the 'News' or Get Re-elected. Ok enough Rant.
Vaping resembles smoking and smoking is Bad, so therefore vaping is Bad. Therefore if vaping IS smoking and smoking is Bad it must be Banned.
We have vapers that say "I Can Vape Anywhere" (Without respect for others).
Kids vaping. This goes back to the fifties when Candy Cigarettes were a popular candy with kids. Vaping is seen as the New Candy Cigarette because the range and variety of flavors (from breakfast cereal to adult beverages) and colors. Parents have no control of their kids so these products cannot be allowed to exist. So, hey politician Here's a Dollar, Do Somethin'.
So, lacking evidence of harm to users or non-user exposure, our 'For Hire Government' (local, state, and national) ban what they are paid to ban.

Yep...what Agent Ania said. I saw an interesting post yesterday where in case where a ban was being legistlated one of the legislators said "no way" as he was using his e-cig and telling the press how much healthier he was since he started using it vs cigs. I think e-cigs shouldbe sent to every legislator who still smokes (probably most of them are closet smokers) and see if that changes their votes.

All those things. The biggest reason is probably pressure from the big T and P co.s that don't want to lose out charging us for cigarettes and/or the extortionate price of NRT.

How much does a nicotine patch cost to make, distribute and market? Not very much. But in the UK, you want some... you've gotta pay.

:2c:Big tobacco buys more politions than any other industry. They've all got paid lobbyists in Washington 24/7. Not to mention even though the surgeon general will tell you on each pack how dangerous it is. The government doesn't really want you to quit. they stand to lose billions in tax dollars.

Really? Can you provide proof of this? Political donations are a matter of public record, so are registered lobbyists. Odd how so many anti-smoking laws have been passed over the last decade...
You do know increased taxes on tobacco products has reduced revenue, right?

Here, I'll provide the proof-

Take a look of the total $ numbers here...We Smoke Cigarettes No More!...from a rather small number of vapers that have recorded their data. (you can add yours...:))

Smoking rates in adults and children have been declining recently for the first time since the "No Smoking" campaigns started in earnest back in the 1970's. The "sin tax" money is in freefall, and the towns, counties, states and the feds are addicted to the money.

This.

The only things I would add are the name (e-cig) and the aesthetic similarity to smoking makes it entirely too easy to lump it in with smoking.

big pharma sits on the FDA board that's deciding how to regulate and tax e-cigs right along side of big tobacco.

let us not forget they both have well groomed, over fed ponies in this race. remember how SOPA got all the press while ACTA was being signed in at a global level? let's not lose focus less we don our blinders and the fast pony sneaks past us....
