nope. i just don't believe that folks that have something that important to hide are going to make everything so... transparent. if i were buying someone's vote for my industry to keep thriving, i know for a fact it wouldn't be on the books. how about you? would you rather have the bad press if you had enough money for millions of dollars to slide under the carpet?

Oh, ok. It is all a conspiracy, with suitcases of cash being handed out...

you ever have a job where insurance or political money changes hands? trust me, kickbacks, illegal or not... they make the world go 'round.

I was a staffer for a member of Congress at one time... Other than the odd Dem with stacks of money in his freezer, such things only happen on tv shows or movies...

well, this only proves two things IMO;

1) you and i are from 2 different worlds, and;
2) my trust isn't given. it must be earned.

i must say, #2 is no simple ordeal.

I know that there are people and organizations opposing politicians on either side of the aisle, whose sole existence it is to dig up scandals. Money under the table is nearly always discovered and rather quickly.
Political donations and lobbyists are a matter of public record; Big Tobacco doesn't even really bother anymore...

big pharma sits on the FDA board that's deciding how to regulate and tax e-cigs right along side of big tobacco.

let us not forget they both have well groomed, over fed ponies in this race. remember how SOPA got all the press while ACTA was being signed in at a global level? let's not lose focus less we don our blinders and the fast pony sneaks past us....

Really? Big Tobacco has a chair on the TPSAC board? That's news to me...:facepalm:

They are non voting members, just advisors...

The Committee shall consist of 12 members including the Chair. Members and the Chair are selected by the Commissioner or designee from among individuals knowledgeable in the fields of medicine, medical ethics, science, or technology involving the manufacture, evaluation, or use of tobacco products. Members will be invited to serve for overlapping terms of up to fours years. Almost all non-Federal members of this committee serve as Special Government Employees. The Committee shall include nine technically qualified voting members, selected by the Commissioner or designee. The nine voting members shall be physicians, dentists, scientists, or health care professionals practicing in the area of oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, toxicology, pharmacology, addiction, or any other relevant specialty. One member shall be an officer or employee of a state or local government or of the Federal Government. The final voting member shall be a representative of the general public. In addition to the voting members, the Committee shall include 3 non-voting members who are identified with industry interests. These members shall include one representative of the tobacco manufacturing industry, one representative of the interests of tobacco growers, and one representative of the interests of the small business tobacco manufacturing industry.

well, now that i'm apparently a conspiracy theorist, let us not forget how we got to that conclusion...

i said they sit on the board.
you questioned that.
then we both quoted an excerpt from a web page about that board the bolded above that proves just that... that they are there... by design of the boards' structure itself.

thus whether they "are making donations" or not... their roles as advisers are to influence. period. to advise... and they are there as i said originally. and by design of that board, there will always be 3 of them representing 3 facets of the tobacco industry.

Which makes it especially ironic when people say "Ohhhh we have to control vaping because nicotine..." but they sell a lot of nicotine and it's hailed as a successful cessation method...

Hmmmm....

^^ EXACTLY!!! ^^

hence the conflict of interest. especially considering our interest and public health.

Huge conflict of interest IMO but stevegmu is correct also in that sometimes folks take the conspiracy theories to far (Ancient aliens anyone) Here is LORD VISCOUNT RIDLEY telling the House of Lords what the big pharma connection is

agreed.

and i've seen that video.

look at the politician directly to his left totally disgusted by his every word. that's what we're commonly dealing with. the ignorance that allows that to continue.

anyway... i don't fancy myself normally a conspiracy theorist. i don't follow a given path such as nibiru and definite annihilation.

i just don't give trust that easily and i've seen money exchange hands for favors all to often. add to that, i don't trust a politician as far as i can throw one.

well... without more detail, let's just say i'm cautious and skeptical of any politicians intentions and motivation.

I know..Some of the looks given behind his back are very telling

Reading every word here and trying to absorb and learn as much as I can. My first commitment is to never, ever buy a cig-a-like product or any vape product that is produced by any of the tobacco companies. This may be a naive stand, but it is one that I am doing…so far.

I have already given them and the government enough money.

Interesting read thanks!

I'm so worried about nicotine harming me that I dropped down to about half what I started with and then actually increased it beyond where I started. I just function better with more than less. Simples. :laugh:

Dropping down the nicotine level what was my problem with the patch, gum and lozenges....whenever I dropped the nic, I started smoking again. Now vaping, I'm at 1/2 of where I started after 3 1/2 years, cut down to 18 mg.
