@Ephraim Cooper - I am also new to this forum although not new to vaping - welcome!
Although I have literally no knowledge of this subject (not my cup of tea) I think I can help:
1. You have had many different pieces of advice and pointers to go to get info. I think you need to read that information and get a good background knowledge and then use the info here to fill any gaps not the other way round because...
2. Building stuff yourself is very dangerous - most people here have said in one way or another that you need to basically have an expert level knowledge to be safe. With the greatest respect to posters here, if I was in your position I would be wanting authoritative scientific texts to follow as well as some stuff some strangers on the Internet or in a vape shop said.
3. I would try not create new threads here or you will find it harder to track the extensive and varied helpful suggestions to your queries - there's several threads here which are all about pretty much the same question (which seems to boil down to 'how can I build my own kit and max out it's wattage with x batteries/coils etc'). I think you have got the most you are going to get out of people for now and in fact the more info from different sources you get the more overwhelming it might be
4. Honestly, in my opinion here is what I would do as a newbie - buy a good box mod with regulated batteries and safety features built in Use ready made coils appropriate for your tank while you do loads and loads of research until you know things like ohm's law and other technical battery physics inside out. Start phasing in home made elements as you get more confident with your knowledge - a good sign of this confidence will be when you don't feel like you have to ask a question about every step of the way on here and are just seeking the odd clarification here and there. I truly believe this is the safest thing. There's enough stories already about inexperienced vapers blowing half their face off and no one wants that to be you!
I don't mean to patronise although maybe I do in which case I apologise! I have no experience in home making equipment because I have neither the knowledge or the patience but I hope that general advice to your approach might be of use
