I may be new but this is an amazing forum with loads of information for all to see. I wrote my first review yesterday and I plan on being a contributing member as well as a "supporting member". I'm in the car but right when I get a chance at work I am going to sign up. I really appreciate all of you, especially the moderators, for keeping such a good forum running strong.

I've been a member of many forums unrelated to PV's but, nonetheless, a forum and e-cigarette-forum is by far the most active. It also has the highest density of knowledgeable members. I can't thank you all enough (moderators and members) for this site. It is all around amazing how active it is as well as how much information I have found in only 4 days. I will gladly donate to improve/maintain such an amazing place. Thanks again!

Has it been established whether or not this is a recurring charge? Great place for info, but I won't be donating again.
It's not a recurring charge if you do it right, whatever that is.

I have never had a recurring charge yet.
And in fact I just got an Expiration Notice email regarding my subscription.

Which I have, of course, renewed again.
:)

Just to try to clear up the confusion I know I would have if I was reading this thread for the first time. When you donate here-> http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/payments.php, you can see at the bottom it says if a (Time)period has an asterisk behind it it is a recurring charge. When you click on the desired drop down menu it will say "1 Year *", so yes, it is without doubt a recurring charge. PayPal will have it listed as a subscription that will be payed yearly also, but it gives you the option of cancelling the subscription with one click.

Summation: It's a recurring charge that can be easily cancelled after the transaction goes through. There is really no reason to not donate if your concern is the recurring charge aspect of the situation.

Now I'm confused.

Okay, it is definitely a recurring payment now, which it did not used to be...

When I renewed a few days ago, I never even suspected that it might be recurring, but sure enough it was.
I called customer service and had them cancel the recurring portion.

So when I go to the link noted previously, there is a drop-down box for Supporting Member.
The only selection available is $24.00 for one year.

I click the Order button, and then click on Order Using Paypal, which is my only choice.
I lot in to Paypal, and my only choice is Agree and Pay.

I see no options to cancel the recurring portion of the payment.

So do you get an option to do that after agreeing and paying?

Yes you do, but if you already cancelled the subscription with PayPal(on the phone), the cancellation option might not be there, as it's not necessary. I would assume they would take the "Active" payment status off of the transaction as well.

Another thing, unless your 100% sure it was'nt a recurring charge when you made previous donations, I'd check those transactions, just to make sure they're not active subscriptions, otherwise you might be having multiple deductions happening every year.

It's a long story, but everything is starting to add up now....

After further research and reflection it is now clear to me that my payment last year WAS recurring.
I never realized it was recurring (my fault for not noticing and reading the asterisked part) last year when I paid.

And therefore, after getting the email below, I paid again, which was once again a recurring...

Subject: Paid Subscription Expiry Notice

Dear DC2,

Your subscription "Supporting Member" is about to expire.

If you have selected a recurring subscription you will be automatically billed
for the renewal and may disregard this message.

If your subscription is paid annually you must visit http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/payments.php
and renew it.

If your subscription lapses, you will lose the permissions associated with your
subscription.

Please note that we now take Moneybookers payments as an alternative to Paypal.
Please use this if you have a problem with Paypal. If you have any queries,
please contact accounts@e-cigarette-forum.com

All the best,

ECF

So most of this was my own fault for not paying enough attention, but...

After all is said and done, I think they should make it clear that there is a way to "cancel" the recurring portion of the payment if desired.
Because if I had noticed it would be recurring, I probably wouldn't have supported them in the first place.

I am standing here with money to throw at ECF but I REFUSE to go through Pay"Pal" at this point. My PP account was hacked and I damn near lost my car and house over it. I will NEVER use them again for anything. It really hurts me that I cannot become a supporting member of ECF but nothing will ever make me go back to PP.

I sincerely hope that ECF can find another way to allow people to become supporting members. I find it odd that PP does not allow e-cig transactions but yet PP is the only way to become a supporting member of an e-cig related website.

Thank you so much for directions on how to cancel the recurring charge. I had tried getting an ECF subscription before but didn't know how to cancel the recurring part so I backed out. Recurring charges tend to cause problems that can take quite a bit of time and effort to resolve. As much as I appreciate ECF recurring charges are bridge too far for me.
