If I had to do it all over and I was in your shoes I'd skip all the steps and proceed directly to something like this:

2 of these - Sigelei Zmax Telescope- Complete Kit
2 of these - Vision VIVI NOVA 2.5ml eGo Tank - All NEW Tank System with Replaceable Atomizer Heads - Latest in eCig Innovation
2 of these - SmartVapes 306 1.8ohm E cig Dripping Atomizer

A bunch of sample juice packs + 1 or 2 of any of these batts for backup - Electronic Cigarette - Batteries - eGo Batteries
And maybe a couple spare 18650 batts for the zmax and a spare charger.

$250 for the both of you and you're done for a long time till one of the pv's breaks. Not saying it has to be a zmax btw but something similar. I realize though is not rly typical advice around here, just my opinion. Actually I'd get these - http://www.smoktek.com/SmokTek-SmokBox-VariCool--Custom-Box-Mod_p_130.html?AffId=20 but ppl seem to like the zmax and they may be easier to use for a beginner idk. anyway, gl watever u decide and happy vaping:)

The kGo (and all eGo-style batteries) -- the e-cig IS the battery. When it dies, you have to replace it. I do NOT suggest the kGo
unless you make sure the model you are getting uses a STANDARD usb cord -- they have some models that do NOT, and I was unable to replace my charging cord when it died.
The Kgo I've suggested from Hoosier uses the standard usb charger cord- same cord as used on all eGo class PVs.

I would also suggest the kGo that Vapoor posted. I just bought that unit and it works as advertised and the price is at a good point and the service was very good. If you look around you should be able to get what you need right at the 125$ mark. I just started vaping with that kit and I have made it into day 3 with no analogs.

I would suggest to take your time and look at around at the options available. Find what you are comfortable with and give it a try. Either the kGo or the eGo are very good starter points. I am very happy with what I bought. I also feel that it will be enough for me to learn the how to vape and to learn what I want to look at in the next setup I may want.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask there is a lot of knowledge and experience here as well as being a friendly to place to learn.

I love the sigelei zmax but they are just starting and have a 125.00 budget for everything.

Yea I was just saying...they're probably gonna wind up getting something like that eventually so why not just skip all the steps leading up to it and go right to the end result. I realize it's a big leap of faith though...felt like throwing it out there anyway.

:)

I wish I could just skip all the Newbie steps and just go straight to the "big dogs" brands, but right now, just not able. I could maybe swing getting the Spinner/Twist Ego VV Tank Combo that someone posted a link to that is from myvaporstore website that was almost 70 bucks for the kit. Do you all suggest this one over the kGo, or just stick with the kGo? If I went this route it would be 140 for the 2 kits, so would still need to keep some $$ back for juice. If I did that, then in a week or 2 I could get those Nova tanks everyone said I should get. Would what comes in this Spinner/twist kit, those 2 Cartomizers, last a couple weeks until I could order the Nova tanks?

Vapoor..you advised buying 2 atomizers...what are those for...where do they connect at on the whole thing? Is there a certain brand you'd buy to go with either the kGo kit or the Vision Spinner kit?

Really, you guys/gals are so helpful for us Newbies! I'm really excited to start all of this!!

A Spinner/Twist may be the biggest dog you need for quite awhile. They provide a solid vape and you can experiment with all kinds of delivery devices (what hold the juice and delivers to the heating element) to find out what you like.

You said 2 kits. Are you buying set-ups for two people?

ETA: Sorry about that, I just skimmed the first post.

Atomizer/ Atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. They just screw on to the end of the battery as do Vivis, cartomizers, etc.

Is there a certain brand you'd buy to go with either the kGo kit or the Vision Spinner kit?
Both are great PVs. Problem with the Spinners X 4 batteries it's getting pricey. You may want to think about buying 1 Kgo starter kit and 2 Spinner Batteries + 2 Vision Viv Novas- realize the Vivi Novas come with 3 heads so you should be good for awhile. This would put you @ $113.00. Add to that 1 atomizer and you're at $119.00.

The problem with this price point is there are higher end variable voltage units that can be bought for $26.00 each- realize though they ship from China and takes about 3 weeks.
2 X Vamo= $52.00
4 X Panasonic batteries= $20.00- 2250 mah so they last about 20+ hrs each and are high end quality batteries.
1 X battery charger= $10.00
Total= $82, shipping would be extra, maybe $10.00
Total= $92.00 and leaves $33.00 for Vivis.

Here's a review and I'm only mentioning these extra options because others are suggesting variable voltage and I want to see you and your husband get the best bang for your buck Realize the Vamo in the vid is full size. With purchase of a smaller 800 mah battery the Vamo can be easily switched to a Mini Mode/ sized PV.

Again just remember whatever you purchase it's going to be with you for a long time...

Take Your Time in Choosing a PV
It's more important to get it right rather than fast IMO.

Here is an example of a kit more within your price range. It's just an example, you may want to add or delete different components (such as the CE3 Xls, which I like, but you may prefer another type of clearomizer; and I configured it with a Spinner, backed-up with a Twist, you may want to save some money by getting a standard voltage eGo as back-up, etc.) The vendor's stock is also a bit low right now (my friends bought out the 1000mAh Twists :p), so not everything may be available when you (if you) choose to order and you may have to make some substitutions:

Ecig Batteries

Spinner 1100 mAh x2 28
28
Joyetech 650mAh Twist x 2 19
19
UBS charger 4.5

Vision Vivi Nova kit 9.5
Kanger T3 6.5
extra T3 head 2.5
CE3 XL (5 pack) 8.5

Juice 6ml @ $3. each x 4 12

subtotal: $137.50
<$6.87> (less 5% coupon "vf5"

Total: $130.63 (plus shipping)
plus shipping

ETA: That didn't paste very well from Excel, but you get the idea.

I'm not trying to be bossy...but there are so many vendors out there to buy from...so when you give suggestions, could you please provide links, if thats allowed...where I'll know what I'm looking for?

I'm still new and there are way more experienced and knowledgeable people around but one thing I can point out is here:

Forum Suppliers

As it says:

"These forums are run by Suppliers whose customer service standards we monitor carefully."

So these are known folk who have a rep to protect here on ECF. Also, I've dealt with two of them so far myself and have been very happy. In fact, one shipped my order so fast, I was bowled over. Any faster, you'd need a Star Trek transporter beamin' the stuff around. :)

My final word. I own JT eGos, Kgos, Spinners, Twists, Megalodon. a number of other PVs and, until a few days ago, a Provari. Although I primarily use the Spinners I still occasionally use and enjoy my Kgo. Have distributed over 250 Kgo kits and most are still successfully using them. A few have upgraded.
I've just ordered the Vamo because it's been out for awhile, has proven itself and I now wish to go back to longer life batteries/ VV PV at a reasonable cost.

It's a good choice either way - a VV batt is def the way to go and the vivi's are very easy to use, clean and maintain. I think I recommended the atomizer, they're for dripping/testing flavors it's the best way to do it. I think I gave u the smartvapes link but if not -
