What are you opinions on being discreet with vaping? I know you shouldn't vape where you can't smoke.

I was at a restaurant today waiting outside for a table, and I see two fellas out there vaping like they are the coolest kid on the block with their shiny mod's.

It just seemed kind of absurd IMO, but I guess as long as smoking is allowed outside in the area it's fine. It just looked weird, as if they were trying EXTRA hard for some attention that they are not just smoking a regular cigarette.

Opinions??

Well I thought my car would be a safe place to vape on my way to work. I was pulled over by a cop. Pretty cool though. The cop had just stopped smoking himself. He asked what mine was and we had a nive little chat. Also showed him my swedish snus. Overall the best time I have ever been pulled over lol.

I'll hit my PV just about anywhere you'd see someone smoke, though I still don't just loiter around building doors, never did as a smoker either, I'll go a respectable distance down the building and just lean against the wall with a foot up or something while I vape. I know I dislike when smokers are blowing clouds in front of a public door, so I treat my own vaping the same way, not everybody wants to walk through a foggy vanilla, clove, etc cloud on their way to go shopping or whatever..although, I wonder if restaurants could encourage people to vape outside their doors with dessert flavors, drive up business! As far as using designated smoking areas at outdoor events or on campus, etc, I will if specifically asked, otherwise I'll vape to my heart's content just walking around, never been challenged on it as long as I'm using a cigalike with a non-orange tip.

I don't see why someone should have to be discreet about vaping in smoking-allowed areas. When I'm outside I vape away as I enjoy -- I don't think it looks silly but I also don't particularly care if anyone else does. If anyone thinks it looks more "absurd" than when I was out there smoking awful cigarettes every friggin' day of my life for 15 years, well, they have strange priorities. Besides, I have no problem being out in the open and giving other smokers a chance to ask questions if they're interested.

I've never heard the idea that you shouldn't vape where you can't smoke, though I guess I understand the reasoning. At any rate one of the things I like is that I CAN vape where I can't smoke, which will be invaluable when our Canadian prairie winters start up (hello, -40 Fahrenheit!) You can't smoke anywhere indoors here (well, except for your own house I suppose), but I've been making it work in most indoor locations.

As far as discretion goes: at bars and pubs (all non-smoking) I don't worry about it too much, nobody's ever asked me to stop, I've been seeing it more often lately and half the time I don't think anyone even notices. In other indoor settings, I vary what I do in terms of discretion. Sometimes (like when I'm at a ballgame) it's just a matter of holding the vapor in a bit and letting it out slowly so it isn't too obvious. In other indoor settings, such as work, I'll just nip off to a bathroom stall for a few vapes, or find any corner where I'm alone for 20 or 30 seconds.

I vape tall and proud wherever and whenever the urge strikes me unless I'm told I can't. IMHO stealth vaping means that you know you shouldn't be vaping there and makes it 'easier' for people to look down on vaping. I vape normally, I don't blow clouds up in the air to be conspicuous but I don't try to hide it either. I vape in restaurants, movie theaters, malls, grocery stores, etc... Wednesday I went to refill several propane cannisters for the forklift at work and thought the guy filling it was going to have a heart attack when I exhaled a hit from my vamo. After explaining an e-cig to him I then spent almost an hr with him and his coworkers explaining the e-cig. I'd be willing to bet that when I go back next week for another refill that at least 2 of them will be vaping at work after their boss said since it's not combustible it poses no risk around the tanks.

If I'm out at a bar that I haven't vaped in before, I'll usually ask the bartender specifically, "Are e-cigarettes prohibited here?" and the majority of the time they tell me I'm welcome to vape.

I only tend to self-prohibit in places where I think it's going to cause more of a ruckus than the conversation is worth, like the grocery store, or on the train. Everywhere else is fair game.

I haven't been off tobacco long enough that I feel like I can go around evangelizing about e-cigs, but I'm certainly not trying to hide what I'm doing any more than I did when I smoked.

My boyfriend said he thought vaping on my Evod was cool because it looked like I was "from the future," haha. I liked that.

I don't know, I'm definitely gaining confidence in vaping as I go along. The first week I was still vaping very furtively in public, like I did with cigarettes -- for so many years I'd felt embarrassed about my smoking and about how much I knew other people found it gross,, so I'd gotten used to hiding in corners and just feeling very ashamed about it. But the more comfortable and confident I get in vaping, and the more feedback I get from non-smokers who I am openly vaping around about not being bothered by it even in pretty close quarters, the more open I am about it in general public. I know if people smell it at all they're smelling a nice light chocolate mint, and there's about a million worse smells in any given block of this city so I don't feel so bad, haha.

The only time I am discreet about it is at work when the owners are around. I have helped turn three coworkers into vapers. The manager is interested as well. The culture is slowly shifting that direction and if the managers starts I will feel much safer vaping freely, but at this point one wrong move could change all that. Other than that, I vape anywhere that I used to smoke and even some places I didn't.

It's all about being respectful of others. A little grace, politeness, courtesy and respect go a long way in any situation. You can generally find the middle ground in most situations, but that whole entitlement thing annoys everyone. Respect, respect, respect. That being said, we do have rights as vapers and sometimes, we do need to draw a lline in the sand, to maintain those rights. If we don't, the PC police will eventually get around to taking it away. Respect, but stand your ground.

If smoking is allowed, I see no reason to be discreet, and the local businesses I frequent, I have asked and most allow me, and any other vaper to vape indoors but, do ask BEFORE doing it in a no smoking environment. A few will ask you to be discreet, especially if your PV actually resembles an analog. (That's to avoid patrons asking why they can't smoke and you can. If it doesn't look like an analog, then, often less discretion is necessary.)

I use an e-Cigarette just like the way I Smoked. I don't vape where Smoking is Not Allowed. And when I vape in public, I just stand there and take some Hits.

I don't try to Hide it. And I don't try to Attract Attention. I just take some hits and then go about my Business.

I make a point of asking and, vaping where ever I can. I think if we all did that, it would be more acceptable in non smoking environments and, more smoker would come to vaping, just because it is less costly and, you can vape where you can't smoke. A bit like upgrading form a transistor radio to an iPod - it's the tech age, people need to get with it on getting nicotine too - just have to get it out there, let people see it's fine to vape, and a perfectly casual, normal thing to be doing ANYWHERE.

I vaped openly at a horse show last weekend. Now for those of you that don't know these things, there's lots of combustibles such as hay and straw around livestock and barn areas. The only comments I got were curious "Is that one of those electronic cigarettes?", "Does it work?" and positive.

As a rule I don't vape where I wouldn't smoke with few exceptions. I'll vape in my house and I'll sneak in the rest room at work for a few hits. I'd probably vape while waiting for a table outside a restaurant, but I certainly wouldn't make a big deal out of it.
