my delrin threads are in great shape after about 6 months. If I ever need a replacement, I plan to order a metal cap, as I don't use mine as an on/off.
Mike, it kind of depends on how much you plan to have the cap on and off. The delrin works great as the on/off switch, but if you tend to handle things roughly, it can strip the delrin threads.
The metal cap sometimes has problems with finding the on/off sweet spot, but is much more durable. I have metal caps on both of mine, and both also work as the on/off function.
I'm still using my Delrin cap without any problems and it's been on there for a long darn time. I turn it off every time I sit it down. If you just turn it a half a turn or so it's off and the threads don't get messed up.
My delrin threads were DESTROYED after a year.. to the point where putting it down would sometimes allow the cap to pop off. I don't use the on/off either, I'll be getting a metal one pretty soon.
I used to like the metal one and still have one in my box but after I came in one day, smelling this burning odor and found my M1A1 melted off the top of it with a tank full of juice running all over I got a fondness for the Delrin.
