I can do essentially zero visible vapor form my usual BF setups if I work at it a bit, and that's using my normal 65-70% VG mix. It's not quite as satisfying as vaping normally, but it's way better than not vaping at all. :D

I work for a gov. health authority in an "open office" concept. My director and team I work with all know what I'm doing and have no issue with me vaping freely at my desk (in fact a couple of the guys dig my little gizmos and have asked why mine don't make the plume of smoke like the mall rats, I tell them it's the cheap chinese juice they use that's full of chemicals, they bought it :p)...the little trick I've mastered is to slipstream for a second or 2 after I let go the fire button then simply hold it in for a bit...zero vapor on exhale at a 50/50 mix

It does take a bit of practice but now it's just become automatic, it's taken a while but now I personally find it every bit as satisfying as normal vaping...to the point where I find myself doing it at home and in my truck...only issue now is that the Derringers tend to be a loud RDA for snap/crackle/pop, which is why I like to sink them...it quiets them down considerably.

I vape everywhere, including a trans-con Lufthansa flight to Amsterdam...in carry on luggage 3-4 batts in a ziplock with some duracels, the mod just chucked in with a change of clothes, juice bottle in a ziplock with my mouthwash/toothpaste/etc. and the RDA is tossed in with my wifes cosmetics/tweesers/etc., board plane, seatbelt sign off, re-assemble and enjoy :D

I really want to beat the mall rats about the head with their own tubes mods...they are seriously screwing the rest of us.

rossum and quigs !
I have done all these tricks ...on flights cruse ships and restaurants wallymart and vaping wont trigger the restroom sensors on air planes.
was thinking of using a foam coffee cup ..small mod inside with a straw hooked up throuw the lid with tact switch glued to the side .
but never did...box mods don't look like cigs anyway !

I just take the bottle out and put it in the zip lock with my other juice and stick an empty one in and carry it in my pocket. Through it and my vape case on the conveyor through the x-ray then changed back bottles once at altitude. Stealth vape window seat by my wife. Easy peazy. Got asked one time if it was an ecig at x-ray, no hassle.

Quigs, legally you are supposed to have any LiOn or LiPo batteries in your carry-on and not checked luggage. I've always had a large quantity when returning home. I try to carry a mod that does not look suspicious, but is set up and ready to go, and of course that I wouldn't really mind losing. If you get asked about what it is, is good to demonstrate how it works, much like nowadays you have to show that your phone will power on.

That said I just went with the two most important bosses to Amsterdam for a few days before Easter. On the way I left everything in my checked bag which meant 8 hours till I could vape again. While there I had to enjoy ego batts with standard cartons. During the stay it was easy enough to stealth vape, and for the way home I just carried my ego in a ziplock with some medicine. The security check was a private enough affair that my colleagues weren't just over my shoulder as I'd imagined. I did get asked by security what it was, but the answer ' an e-cigarette' satisfied the guy. He likely has not seen such a lame model before. [emoji2]

Ah, I just stick them with duracels cause I've found that to them a batt is a batt...I wouldn't risk it with my LG's, Sammies or VTC's, that's why they invented E-Fests, but so far, so good. but good to know

...though sometimes I wonder why I bother, on a flight back from Cancun, for reasons I don't want to admit, but I vaguely recall the security guy telling me to take the mod I was currently vaping in front of him and put it in the plastic box thing so they could run through the machine...there's no consistancy

I've never done any disassembly. I don't even remove or empty the juice bottle. Two ready-to-rock BF mods in a quart-size ziplock baggie, in the tray with my belt and shoes. No one has ever given 'em a second look. As soon as I get through security, one of the mods goes back in my shirt pocket (where it belongs!) and the spare stays on the ziplock and goes in my carry-on.

Batteries always in carry-on, in proper plastic battery boxes.

None, really happy with it. I admittedly was a little concerned when I first took it out of the box, it's tiny but now that I've used it I wouldn't want anything bigger for my use. And it's pretty torquy...when I was making the copper center pin I had to run low RPM...in low range you can hear it start to lug as you twist the tool in but I'd probably snap a cutter before I stalled it out. About my only complaint if I was being picky...the screw gear transmission is a little noisy, which is kinda odd for nothing but a collection of nylon gears but again...being picky.

One thing I'm really happy with is the accuracy. no slop, very little lash...the only thing I've had to do that wasn't in the set-up proceedures was shim the tailstock "up" (laterally it was perfect ). Since owning it I've picked up a live center, a tailstock chuck and swapped out the HSS tools for carbon. I'd thought about the 4 jaw for drilling odd shapes but with having a mill I've yet to run into a deal breaker. I'll just stick with the 3 jaw and not drive myself crazy :p

Sweet! I agree completely with your west coast/ east coast analysis on getting something used. Ive kept my eye on Craigslist for what seems an eternity. Just recently someone had the Grizzly for 425, seeing new was on sale for 495 and knowing the trip could be made in an afternoon, this is looking much more like a reality. :)

Tell me about it :(...If you can find good used metal gear on the west coast, snag it...it's rare

I got some new toys today from Ian444...

A 100 or so pages ago we talked about a volt meter or battery status meter for mechs. Well, Ian actually made one (several actually) and he chose me as a beta tester (how cool is that?).

Really easy to install but it needs to be always powered...I stuck the first one in my FET Grand...here's a quick vid I took of it in action...

I can second that, I've had one from Ian for a couple of weeks now, and they are great, very small, and I believe he is working on a smaller one still, a very clever guy with a passion for vaping.
So nice to know before you step out the door where your battery is at.

Great little board. Are they going to be made available to the masses?

I hope so, these will be a further push to what I've already been contemplating in changing the way I build my mechs moving forward.

To incorporate these indicators, all I have to do to one to my typical contact strip Grand type switches is simply add a pos batt contact...and I've been considering doing this for other reasons.

I've been noticing my batt. pos terminals and they're getting pretty deformed due to the fact that I'm driving a contact point directly into it as a switch. This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing provided I used the same batt, oriented the same way, every time....obviously I don't do that

Currently I'm building a very simple box mod that will have a pos terminal that the movable contact will mate with. It's a static pairing that I can work to realize max. contact surface regardless of batt used...like my Russian tractor mod (see pic) 20141022_043525.jpg

It'll add a couple mm to the mods overall height but meh.

Though having said that...I'm sold on these FETs., they just work and you remove the randomness of contacts entirely...I feel kinda torn by going with a semiconductor but...the way I'm going to rationalize it is "it's still a manual transmission, but now you shift by wire with steering wheel mounted paddles...F1 style :p

Holy crap Holycrap, I think I read "18650" on the side of those batts, that are in parallel, in a sled, next to your juice bottle, that has a piece of something to stop it rattling around...just how big is that box? :D

Looks like you got everything in the right place, nice work. I see you don't have some stompin' batts but you do have them in parallel...watch how much current you run through that switch.

I sure would like to make them available, I'm hoping there's not much demand though, due to day job. This was the first one just to see if it would work, check that I could solder the little components, check that the thin 0.8mm pcb was strong enough etc. Its not really a finished unit as such right now since there is no reverse battery protection, if you put the battery in backwards it will fry. If that wasn't an issue (to someone who wanted one) then this iteration would be fine to be released if it tests good over the long term. I would think in a couple of months I will have a few different designs (with and without reverse protection) and a few different shapes so you can measure up a mod and work out which one fits easiest/best in the available space. So its going to be a couple of months yet and not sure how to distribute, pm or ebay maybe, no idea really, I have sold other type pcb's in the past on a different forum, but I don't think that will work on ecf, not sure even if pm is OK?
