I like living dangerously.

All right FINE. I'll ask salt if he has the "touch".:p

Its a different kind of touch my dear. Walk those pretty legs over here and I'll show you what I mean...

You're worth two in the bush, tweetie. I'm not going to do anything wrong. *Trust me*

HA!

We should all chip in and buy a one way ticket to China for br

So if I hear right... Royal smokers makes (/made ?) a carto that, with a little BR magic, way outperforms all others?

So pretty much, If the magic is waved before they ship, we have the carto we've all been looking for?

I have a contact at RS.... well, Abe does. Not sure what they are willing to do for us, but most other manufacturers seem more than willing to customize a product, for a little extra incentive. As long as it's not a very labor intensive process, I'm sure it's doable. I can't make any promises, But I'd love to do my part.

If your interested, BR, I'd love to pursue this.

What do you guys think? Is this the answer?

Hey Guys/Gals !
New here as you can see by the post count.

Anyways, I've poured through about 40 or 50 pages on this topic, starting at the beginning and then going backwards. Trying to get a feel for what has been posted on this subject.
I use a standard KR808D-1 No mods (boring eh?)

Needless to say, this burning issue of the carts is a little disturbing, and it seems the last number of pages has broken topic some. No matter. I'm here to ask a few specifics that (I hope) haven't been answered before.

1) In the last year, has there been improvements in design? and is their a particular company you all use who supplies cartos that burn less or not at all? (links please)

2) Considering we were (or are) smokers, is this really a concern? I mean, sheesh, we inhaled massive amounts of smoke in the past, so an occasional whiff seems trivial. Yeah, that occasional burnt taste is not good. I get that.

3) what are the coils wrapped with (non asbestos I pray)? and the batting seems to be a polyester fill?

4) (and this I've been trying to get a handle on) What is the atomizer temp when cooking? I've heard between 250-280c or 480-535f. Seems awful warm. At that temp, I would think it would take the skin off of my tongue.

DOODS/ DOODETTES ! Thanks. (sorry for so many points at once)
The Pig!

Yes. Where do I send my check?

I think you should hire/beg/bribe BR to help. [If that doesn't work, Zelda and I will get some Oreos and Cheetos and personally deliver them to BR's basement.]

Here's my take on it. These cartos have the potential to be the answer to our prayers; however, due to inconsistent (to say the least) QC at the manufacturing end, they are not ready for prime time. They simply don't work out of the box, period. The most irritating part of all this is that they really could and should be ready by now, considering that the guys on the other thread have been testing and improving the design and pretty much telling the manufacturer exactly what needs to be done. I don't understand why they can't implement those changes.

1. Wicking. Some wicks are of poorer quality than others, some are cut too short, some are soaked in acrid fluid of unknown origin and render the cartos unvapable. All this can be fixed easily. Just plain sloppiness on their part, if you ask me.

2. Coil design. Some heating coils are just fine, some are wound way too tightly around the wick, some have the wrong number of loops. Again, all this is Mickey Mouse stuff, easy to fix, again QC.

3. Filler ring design. This is a more complicated issue; IMO, the slits are too small and pinch the wick, which makes proper wicking difficult. They should be tweaked. I know that Badkolo and other guys had some solutions for this problem, but I haven't seen any changes yet. Also, these filler caps are almost impossible to replace carrectly after they have been removed for cleaning/dry burning. If not aligned properly, they'll pinch the wick even more. Not good. Most people just shove them back in upside down and it seems to work. Definitely room for improvement.

4. Filling. Still difficult with microscopic filler holes. I fill using a 'beer mug' method, slowly pouring the ejuice down the carto walls. It works. But if they can be filled this way, why do we need that poorly designed filler cap anyway?

I'm not sure what BR did to that carto that he so kindly fixed for me, but it works. I know that he torched and adjusted the wicks. The rest is just his magic.

I agree that the syringe mod works, and possibly works even better than BR modified carto, but I'm really not willing (yet ) to start buying pipe cutters, dremels, torches and 3 ml syringes. The mod I got from CoV worked very well, indeed, before I killed it, but it looks homemade and flimsy and I wouldn't be caught dead using it in public. It ain't pretty. I know that killing it was my fault; I must have disturbed the coil while trying to clean the wicks (for the third time) and probably caused the wires to touch and short. But those cartos need to be cleaned frequently because crud builds up on the coil rather quickly, so disturbing the coil is a larger issue that eveyone else will encounter, sooner or later.

There's nothing wrong or boring about using kr808 cartos and no mods. We've all used them and liked them. I still use them occasionally, and Neo uses them, and Salt. I like the kr808 cartos made by Boge, my favorite vendor used to be Vapor Nine. Neo likes the kr8s from Vapors Etc, however, I hear that they are going to be discontinued. Not sure though.

There is a new kr808 cartomizer that is about to be launched tomorrow (today?) by Bloog, developed by one of our resident ecig gurus Leaford. But, of course, we don't know yet how it's going to perform. I suggest you keep an eye on their subforum.

2) Considering we were (or are) smokers, is this really a concern? I mean, sheesh, we inhaled massive amounts of smoke in the past, so an occasional whiff seems trivial. Yeah, that occasional burnt taste is not good. I get that.

It is a concern to me. I don't like to inhale 'car on fire' fumes. I wish to inhale lovely, vaporized ejuices.

3) what are the coils wrapped with (non asbestos I pray)? and the batting seems to be a polyester fill?

Nichrome wire and polyfill (or silk) batting, AFAIK.

I remember we had a discussion about temperatures way back when, but I don't remember the exact numbers. If you really need to know, I suggest you ask in the Modders forum; those guys know everything. Or send a PM to Drozd. He knows everything, too. :)

In the meantime, I strongly advise against touching the hot coil with your tongue.:p

Why do you guys want to exile br? At least pony up for a round-trip fare... If enough funds can't be raised for that, then lets bring Martinez to br's basement...

Love your attitude Salt, BUT they shouldn't be "rewarded" with "incentive" to do some basic R & D, acceptable QC, and deadstock recycling (instead of misrepresentative deadstock sales). They should just get it right already.

Exile BR? Never. Round trip. First class. :)

I don't think BR wants Martinez in his basement....

No argument. You're absolutely right, ScottB. The question is, what can we do to make them do this right?

I don't recommend that we do anything at the present time, Salt. I don't have any of the latest batch and can't say how well they perform. According to what I have been told, they have extended wicks and no lubricant is used in their assembly. I'm almost certain they are an improvement, but I don't know if the wicks meet my approval.

The wicking material in the majority of R4's out here in the wild right now does not work as well as previous revisions. It looks the same, feels the same, and torches the same, but it does not work the same. I had to come up with an unorthodox mod to make my juice vape the reservoir dry when vaped from a vertical position. If a C-E2 will not do this, then it is not working at its best in any position. So now we wait and see how well the wicking material works in the latest batch.

The wait and see approach has always been one step forward and two steps back in the development of the C-E2. Hopefully that will not be the case with the newer ones. If the wicking material is still exactly the same, then I am afraid they may apply another Band-Aid to fix the problem. In my opinion, the original C-E2 with the plastic cup only needed one small change to make it suitable. Everything else since then has been a series of one Band-Aid after another.

The ones I fixed for Katya are R3's. The wick works better in these and some of them even work fairly well out of the box. Basically, I adjusted the wick parts down in the base fitting. This means that one end is too short and I added another piece to extend it. Naturally, a wee bit of the br touch was applied here and there, heheh.
