don't forget fat people.

god help you if you're a fat smoker. They'll shoot you on sight.

Oh, fat people have been protected for some time now.

Over 10 years ago, some fitness company put a billboard up in LA that showed a flying saucer cruising over an American city. The caption read, "REMEMBER! THEY'LL EAT THE FAT PEOPLE FIRST!"

They were sued. Fat people are protected from bigotry on the scale that smokers are not.

Randall Flagg, you were a merciless antagonist against Larry Underwood and Mother Abigail. I see you are still in Denver although I believed you were gone forever from there.

Well, Boulder's still safe.
You won't catch me anywhere NEAR there.
(My Sister was pulled over for smoking while driving in her CAR)

There's a move here (Tacoma, WA) to ban smoking in public parks. Back when I was still smoking analogs (a whole 2 months ago) I made the case that this would just drive smokers into the nooks and crannies of the parks, like on the trails and such, far from any convenient trash receptacles, and not only contribute to litter there but also present a fire hazard. Now, the issue doesn't impact me personally, but my argument still stands.

LOL Sorry for the town error. It's been 30 years since I read that book, but it is one I will NEVER forget. I had flashbacks when the swine flu hysteria began. Did your sister have kids with her when she was driving? I'm afraid I might explode in rage if I were pulled over for smoking in the car. The world is becoming a terribly frightening place.

I dunno, I've been treated badly as a smoker, but overall, when I gained 30 lbs one time when I quit, I got treated much worse for being overweight. You can sneak-smoke, but you can't hide the extra poundage. Of course, when I smoked, people were always telling me to eat because I was too thin.

Militant anti-smokers are a pain, though.

Maybe people in general are just jackasses and can't bring themselves to shut up about other people's habits no matter what? :p

It almost seems as if the tobaccophobes are purposely trying to get others into trouble with their restrictions and laws, KNOWING that smokers will violate them when they must. Making smokers look even worse. For example, the cases of smokers being hit by cars or mugged while outside of the bars that they used to be allowed to smoke in. The tobaccophobes win again because their argument is, "If he wasn't smoking, it wouldn't have happened."

Their LAWS made it happen.

Allowing these laws to become reality without a fight was a huge mistake. Obeying those laws without a whimper is a second huge mistake.

No kids. Just really bad traffic. Which, of course, is why she was smoking.

Before Colorado passed their so-called, "Clean Air Act," which booted us out of everywhere, I would go to bars around town with little cards to give to the owners. On one side read, "They voted to kick smokers out of the bars, let's kick them out of office!" The other side of the cards read the names of all of the elected people who voted to pass it.

I did what I could, but it wasn't enough.

You did much more than most of us did. Thank you for the effort. Is it against the law in Colorado to smoke in the car even if there are no kids? Are you saying that your sister was pulled over simply for smoking?

Yep.
It's not against the law in the whole state, but Boulder has a slew of idiotic laws and ordinances that piss me off to no end.
Ol' Flagg won't be walkin' there ever again. They can keep it.

The problem is, when we were smokers, we could always be countered with the 2nd hand smoke argument and were therefore very much on the back foot.

Now that we are using e-cigs, I appreciate that full, independent, scientific studies have not yet been done, but what has been produced gives me good cause for optimism (plus general logic), & we now have a good footing for arguing that they should remain legal.

Until such time as they are 'common place' a lot of people will assume they are the same as smoking and cause establishments problems with handling the complaints.

I am one of those who believe that there are places to use the e-cig, and there are places that you don't. I think that pubs, clubs and bars are a good place to start the education, but I would always check with the landlord first so that they do not see vapour and assume 'smoke' and so get off on the wrong foot. Gradually, they will become more known about and less people will freak out when they see the vapour. I also believe it is essential not to use a brown tip, white battery, red LED combination when using in non-smoking areas. This at least makes people do a double take when they see the vapour and not make assumptios so quickly.

I am not preaching to those who just start using their PV wherever and whenever they feel like it, but I do personally believe that a slightly more gentle approach will serve us beter in the long run...... and I'm defitinely in this for the long run!

Angela, there was a South Park episode long ago about the mentality of tobaccophobic people. In this episode was Rob Reiner. This is an example of what we're facing:
SPreiner.jpg

They can find that there is absolutely no harm that can come from these devices towards the users or people nearby, and these people will STILL find a way to persecute us.
It's about power over others, and control.

...and I don't disagree with you at all about that, but I do think that the real antis for antis sake are in the minority and that most people, if they have the opportunity to have all of the information put before them, will not be so against us as they were about smoking. This time (as opposed to with smoking) we just may have the ammunition to 'fight' with.
