Hi Lynda...you'll get around the place after you've been here a while girl...how are you?

I'm okay, just a little sad. I think I'm going to have to find a good home for my Bear. Remember the post in the lounge about the fights? Well, shortly after I posted, things settled down and they were doing great until last week. Patch, the border collie jumped him again and it was awful. Hubby and I grabbed the hind legs of each and held them high to break the hold and then walked them backwards. We separated them and let them get settled back down and then put them on leashes and took each out for a walk and allowed them to "meet" each other during the stroll. It was.....touch and go so we walked them home pretty close together and took them to our back yard. All of a sudden, before we knew anything was wrong, Patch lunged and backed up right out of his collar and rolled Bear in the blink of an eye. He meant business too. Bear was still on his leash so hubby grabbed Patch's hind legs, got him off of Bear and took him to the garage while I held Bear back. It's been nearly a week and there seems to be no hope of them getting back together. Bear is living in constant fear and starts to growl every time the back door is opened. He stays under the porch all the time when we have the rotation where it's his turn outside. I'm heartbroken because Bear is "momma's boy" where Patch is more of a man's dog and doesn't like cuddling and lovins. The hard part will be finding someone I know I can trust to give him the attention he needs. He's a gorgeous dog, mostly Golden Retriever but looks like he might have a little chow mix....something in the breed that makes his tail curl and a very thick coat like you'd see on a Chow or Husky type dog. He was a rescue from under an abandoned house and I got him when he was just a tiny little sprout. Sometimes life is just hard. :(

Go to your area online rescue site...The rescue clubs rehome dogs to good homes I promise...thats so sad...but your doing the dog more harm the way he is living now...I wish you all the luck in the world to rehome the guy!I am glad your doing the right thing... Hugs

Oh..forgot to ask...are both neutered?

Thanks Whiskey. I want to find someone I know personally so I can visit him from time to time. I love that big brute. The Collie is neutered. We had to do an emergency neutering when he first started showing signs of aggression toward Bear when Bear was still quite young and not full grown. The vet gave us meds to sedate him for a couple of days until they could work him in. Even the meds didn't calm him like you'd think. He was more like a drunk fighter. It was funny yet sad. We thought surgery would take care of the problem and it seemed to for a while. Bear isn't neutered. He's very laid back and docile. He never "humped" anything during his puppy stage and is quite content to lay close to me and get his lovin'. He's a very large dog, right at 100 pounds but thinks he's a lap dog. lol He'd make some little child a great companion. His face even looks kind and gentle. I don't think he would ever have gotten into a scrap had he not been bullied. Patch has always been wirey and high strung. Any little thing can rub him the wrong way. Funny how dog's personalities can be so different, even though they've both been raised in the same calm environment.

So, this is where everybody went. Oooh, new and shiny.

Jupiter - Try the Malty & you'll discover for yourself why it's often sold out. Imust confess, I'm part of the problem as I always order it 60ML at a time. Subtle yummers.

Grrrrrrrrr selfish selfish selfish......
Jk :)
