I'm a big fan of BWB Backo. That's an understatement, I guess, since for almost 4 months now it's been my 24x7 one-and-only juice. I like it for the lack of flavor as much as anything; cigarette smoke doesn't have much taste, as far as that goes -- it's more a feeling/sensation. Backo comes as close to that, and doesn't leave an omnipresent aftertaste in my mouth when I'm not vaping.

If I could describe the taste to someone (subjective for sure), I would say it tastes like clean, filtered water... the almost sour flavor you get from a good bottled water. I'm looking for the ingredient that creates that flavor/effect. Malty has the same flavor... I would describe Malty as having 2 overriding flavors. When I f vape malty, I first get the same "filtered water" taste as I get with Backo. Behind this water flavor, I get a nutty/buttery that is common among tobacco flavoring. The nutty flavor doesn't come up behind Backo, and I don't particularly enjoy tobacco flavors, so that's why I prefer Backo.

Anyone who has vaped both know what that ingredient is? Maybe it's subliminal advertising, but the fact that BWB's logo for Malty looks like carbonated water makes me think it might taste the same to others. I haven't tried ethyl maltol but from what I read that's mostly a sweetener -- Backo is not sweet at all. Also could definitely be a floral overtone creating the effect -- one of FA's floral flavors maybe? Also saw Bitter Wizard on FA's site -- made to tone down sweetness -- but said it's new and Backo has been around a while.

Grasping at straws for the "distilled water" flavor in Backo/Malty... any ideas? t

Yeah...What GoodDog said about the Malty. Str8V8ping has nailed the recipe for BWB Malty. He has 2 threads about it in the recipe forum.

I too really like BWB Backo.

I have 2 really good light tobacco recipes that are comparable to Backo. They are not exactly like Backo but are very similar and I think are just as good on their own. I use either FA Cowboy or FA Black Fire interchangeably in this recipe.

This is it:

5ml base @ 18mg NIC, 70%PG/30%VG.

FA Cowboy or Black Fire 3 drops
Ethyl Maltol Dilution 3 drops
Apple Cider Vinegar 2 drops

This is a very smooth and flavorful mix that doesn't have an aftertaste. This tastes very close to an analog.

Good luck!

Thanks Pete. You had the only real post I found that mentioned a recipe for Backo. The vinegar seems to be an interesting addition to the original suggestion in that thread (a generic "share your recipes" post). I will definitely give it a try. I think BWB's prices are reasonable, but I'm paranoid about getting stuck on one particular juice and vendor -- they could disappear for any reason.

Plus, after being initially skeptical, I agree it needs to steep a while to mellow out. This has proven to be a real issue, since I have to therefore to buy a bunch of it in advance, create a rotating supply of steeped and new, keep up with each, and have to commit to particular nic level - I'm still diluting a couple of 24mg backo with like 4 bottles of 0mg (at least BWB offers 0mg juice... I have several bottles of 24mg Halo juices that I'm stuck with b/c it's almost impossible to dilute it to <10mg with their 6mg minimum).

I have a gallon of PG and VG both, and a good bit of 36mg nicotine base. Would love to vape dirt-cheap off of that for a while if one of your recipes is as mellow as Backo. If nothing else, it gives me something tolerable while the BWB steeps.

To Str8vaping, I have tried unflavored. As bland as Backo is, the unflavored is a little too bland.

Thanks again for the replies.

You will need to find a tobacco thats similar to use lightly with the pg/vg . Blackfire mentioned above might work but that not what bwb uses since blackfire only came out a month or two ago . I believe BWB extracts from real tobacco .

Considering that Don started one of the TPA threads I doubt he extracts his own tobacco. If one were to do that also there would be too much variation in product since he would be at the mercy of tobacco vendors.

Not really. Its all over that bwb extracts there own tobacco .He also doesnt use all TPA flavorings from what i seen him post somewhere else.

Also straight from BWB site
Tobacco Flavorings - Our tobacco flavorings are dreamed and created by Backwoods Brew. Sometimes they are inspired by you...

WHy is it irrelevant .Thats what you commented to and i just answered with proof to back up my previous statement that he does extract his own tobacco .You no longer need to doubt it :) The threads about making BAcko so it is the most revelevent thing in this thread i would think. A marketed TPA tobacco will never come close because its a artificial tobacco flavoring vs BWB's real tobacco extract. Thats ones of the reasons bwb is loved because it tastes like real tobacco which is much better then artificial taste.
