Is there date this takes effect, or will it be effective immediately? Is it time to stock up on snus? (I have my e-liquid supplies already.)

If it passed (I wasn't able to watch today's coverage) it'll have to go to the president to be signed first. Then there'll be a period when the FDA formulates policy around e-cigarettes before a blanket ban can take effect. Additionally, there are likely to be legal challenges to the legislation from the main importers. I could be wrong, but I think we'll have a period of a few weeks or months before anything changes. If anyone has more insight on the topic, I'd love to hear it.

Was just up on CSPAN2

-Regulating tobacco Products
-Vote To Advance Bill: 5:30 PM ET

So, no amendments emerged from the debate (as of yet)? Too bad.

This thing is going to pass like grass through a goose. It was Ted Kennedy's pet project and there are far too many Senators who are unwilling to vote against anything that appears to attack smokers, even though the Feds make money off of smoking hand over fist.

Looks to me like the fight is going to have to change now. The idea that the FDA may ban e-cigarettes but continue to allow traditional analogues is flatly absurd. It puts the agency in a very tenuous position. I fully expect some pretty aggressive challenges if they throw a ban down. It appears that these things could save tens of thousands of lives, if not more, while the sanctioned cigarettes continue to kill hundreds of thousands every year. I don't think e-smoking is going to go down without a fight.

Listening to this is infuriating---

"Imagine if we took the 96 Billion dollars (completely distorted and probably arbitrary number) spent on tobacco-related health care each year and used it to insure the millions of Americans who are uninsured"

Oh yeah? Just like that?! WOW. She makes it sound like transferring money from one bank account to the next. I can't stand when politicians throw around imaginary numbers like that...

All these people are doing are using fear mongering tactics directed at the emotions.

"WITHOUT ANY GOVERNMENT REGULATION. CAN YOU IMAGINE?"

No Woman---I cannot imagine ANYTHING not being regulated by this pushy overbearing government...
