These caps are really hard to drill through even with a carbide bit. Put it in a vise or you could slip and really hurt yourself. Holding it in your hand while you drill it out would be a horribly stupid idea.

You've gotta drill at a super slow rpm.

I don't know the exact speed, but my guess is between 40 and 100 rpm.
I drilled out my igo l cap to 1/16 with a brand new cheapo bit in about 10 seconds.
I just held it by hand, resting on a towel laid on my counter top.

I do fine work like this all the time, and personally don't find it dangerous.
If you don't do work like this often, you may learn the hard way what happens when a bit breaks or slips.
If that is the case, you may want to find a way to lightly clamp it down.
I've been vaping the IGO-L on my Natural almost exclusively for about 6 months. I use 26ga wire, and while I don't remember the diameter I wrap it to off the top of my head, it's a small, perhaps 0.055" drill bit. I give it 4 wraps, which gives me about 0.5 ohms every time. Fill it with some hemp cord and you'll be blowing clouds in no time.
i have a different outcome..
i drilled out the original hole to 1/16 and now its too airy.. even with a dual coil... if i drill out another hole i can only imagine that it would be wayyyy too much..
before it was not enough.. now i have a bigger hole and its too much.. lol i feel like i have to get another IGO-L now and see if theres anything in between a 1/16 and the original hole to see if i can get my spot..
i dont get huge clouds like people on youtube do.. and thats what im after.
You are taking lung hits right? With bigger holes sub ohm vaping works best if you do direct lung hits. I have my igo l drilled out too 1/8 single coil and run it @ .2 ohm twisted 26 kanthal. Works like a charm. Mouth hits and big airholes do not mix
I beg to differ here. I set my IGO up (W with L top cap, 2 XL airholes) with dual coils at about 0.3 ohms, and take mouth hits almost exclusively. If you set them up right you can get short and sweet mouth hits, big vapor and good flavor.
I don't remember the size offhand, I want to say 1.5mm. It's all in the build. If you've got the right amount of wire for it to heat up very quickly, you can still get great mouth hits even with big airholes. The only time I enjoy lung hits are when I've got a LOT of wire and it takes a few seconds to heat up.
I bought an IGO-L a month ago to play around with since they were cheap. I figured the time was right to take it out and test it. I pop the cap off and inside it was already set up as a dual coil..LOL. I sit there scratching my head wondering why they would do that. I figured what the heck lets see what happens. I toss some juice in and fire it up.
It was like sucking on a straw with your finger on the end. There was a little bit of metal on the inside of the tiny stock hole inside the cap from when they drilled it. I cleaned the hole out a bit, but the draw was still tight. I didn't have any metric drill bits and just used the 1/16 carbide bit I had. Built a single coil with some cotton and fired it up.
It is just a bit airy on the mouth to lung hits, and a bit tight straight to lung. Overall it still works well for both applications. I bought it for testing mixed juice. Sometimes you buy juice you don't particularly like, and mix it with something else so not to waste it if you can come up with something vapeable.
