Can I just get something that works?

I too got frustrated with the standard 510 batts. I find that the window of maximum power is very short. The power they put out seems to drop off too quickly for me. I changed up to an eGo (same thing as a riva pretty much) about 1 month in and I was much more satisfied. With a much larger battery it has a much longer time of max power output. When power starts to drop off then the vape gets weaker.

Now I have a provari and I dont get a power drop off anymore. The provari regulates the power output so it hits just as hard on the first drag as it does the last. Also, if a particular atty or juice just isnt hitting well enough I can crank up the volts until it hits just perfectly.

If you are interested in getting into mods I recomend the ProVari (provape.com) or the Darwin. They are the "cutting edge" PV's that are out there right now. If mods are not something you are interested in right now give an eGo/Riva a shot. I found it to be a much smoother experience over a reg 510 kit. An LR atty on an eGo simulates higher voltage vaping quite well. Be aware, however, LR atties put more strain on a battery. Some have reported switch failures when using an LR atty on their ego/riva. It never happened to mine, but it is a possibility. To me, its totally worth it. Good luck and vape on!

The sit-and-go models, ones with an inline battery, are actually running low voltage (standard 520 3.2V), from what I've heard, so an LR atty should work on them (you are really running off the battery voltage)

The eGo passthrough that I have runs off the battery even when its plugged in. Essentially it just allows you to vape it while it is charging. If the battery is run all the way down and I plug it in, I'll have to wait a minute or two before It'll fire.

If you hit the 20% off icon in the upper left of the page, the prices will reflect the discount. Click on Riva 510 and scroll down to the Lite Bundle. You'll see the $29.95 price. Even with shipping, the total for the one I just ordered was $32.98. I just checked the USPS tracking site and it hit my town this morning (ordered on Monday) all the way across the country from California. I should have it this afternoon.

+1 on Riva batts, solves the "swap every 45 minutes" issue. not so much agreed on the clearomizer/E4 cartos, in my experience, even WITH precleaning/modding/tlc they are fussy, don't wick consitantly, and when they switch from "good hit" to "bad taste" it's immediate and YUCKY.

after playing with many attys and blue foam/ptb/fluval cartridge mods, i tried 2.0 Ω Boge cartomizers and haven't looked back. depending on your juice and vaping style each one can last from 3 days to a week or more, so at ~ $1.60 ea they are quite affordable, and since the only maintenance is flicking off the rubber end cap and dropping on 2-5 drops to refill as needed, they aren't nearly the work/maintenance/headache as all the other solutions.

YMMV, but that's been the "finally, a simple solution that works" for me.

The only thing I've found is "fire and forget" is the boge cartomizers, they're cheap so use them for a couple of days & then toss them out. The only problem there is they dont hold a whole lot of juice ~1ml or so I'd guess. The boge cartos are the only ones that give a good flavor for the life of the carto. The ego megas are a good second but they're a pain in the ... to fill.

I've tried the ego-t, LR ego-t, clearomizer, ego mega cartos (which arent bad for a day and a half). I hate the leaking and fiddle factor of carts and atties so I gave up on those a while ago.

Boge is supposed to be coming out with a 4ml 510 threaded cartomizer some time in late March. I'm really looking forward to that.

Without knowing what your able to spend, advice is hard. Ego is good if your trying to keep short term costs down but I recommend the same as a couple other posters here that said either the provari or Darwin. Much higher start up cost, but cost levels off quicker than you think and you can decide just where you want your vape to be, your not limited. I alwAys got frustrated, like someone else mentioned, with the battery dropping off in power, seemed like I was only getting full power briefly. With my Darwin it stays consistent all the time and the charge lasts me 2 days. I could never go back now! :)

Second this. I added a clear drip tip to my cartomizers and refilling is even easier now.
