Can this be a better way to clean the atomizer coil?

I use the vivi nova and overall I like it. However, sometimes the heads do not clean completely even after I dry burn them or soak them in alcohol. An poorly cleaned head will often taste bad and after you pour in new juice (you thought it's cleaned), and you realize the head is still not up to par, it's a hassle to restart everything.

I was wondering if it might clean the coils better if I take the coil and the wick out and gently scrub the coil with alcohol. Perhaps the mechanical action (abrasion) of the scrub can get that black gunk off the coil better than just dry burning or washing it? A brand new coil has a healthy, metal look. An used coil (even after dry burn), will retain a black coating.

This is similar to how ppl clean electric coil stove tops I guess...

I'm a less-is-more person.

I'm still using the same *cheap* dripping atomizer to test (100% VG) juice since July. Usually I just blow it out and set upside down. If it looks gunky, a quick soak in 100-proof vodka, a rinse with distilled water, then let it air dry overnight.

I have never dry burned it or anything.

why go crazy over-cleaning something that is not meant to last a real long time anyway?

try using a denture cleaning tablet and boiling water. Seriously. It works really well if used regularly - ie - dont let gunk build up to the point where you cant use the head before trying to clean it. Ive been using the tablets on my vivi nova heads and, if done sooner than later, leave the wire and wick white -without dry burning. Just rinse afterwards. there is no taste left behind.

i just do a cleaning every refill on my vivi nova.

Yep. They're really easy to clean. If you clean them after each fill, they don't gunk up very quickly. If you're going to the trouble of taking the coil out to clean it, just make a new one. There's not much way you're going to get that old coil back in, even if you manage to get it out without destroying it.

AND........

There's a significant debate going on about "glass shards" produces by silica wick material. I don't imagine that scrubbing it with a toothbrush is going to help avoid it fraying......probably make any fraying worse.

You'll have to be the judge on that issue. OTOH...the cotton wicks tend to need replacing rather than scrubbing, IMO.

I tried the Water Pik and found it to be too violent, except on the very lowest setting ... but—same idea—I use a syringe with the tip right up against the coil. When you press the plunger home, a very fine concentrated spray dislodges all the gunk. I use hot distilled water, but I suppose the same thing would work with Everclear, vodka, PGA, etc. You can control the force of the spray by how hard you press the plunger.
