Hi Jer and welcome to ECF!

Altough your point is very valid, it doesn't matter what we vapers call them, the general, non-vaping public knows them as e-cigarettes, and that's what they are going to call them.

Just the other night, I brought up the subject of my learning not to smoke with a very good non-smoking friend of mine and showed him my setup which doesn't look anything like a cigarette. The first words out of his mouth were "Is that one of those e-cigarettes?"

Now I could have corrected him and said something like "It's a personal vaporizer.", but what would that do? It would have been slightly confrontational, and would have driven a wedge in the conversation, even if it was just a tiny wedge.

Instead, I siad "Yep, it sure is".

His reaction: "How does it work?"

Much better conversation than what could have ensued.

but I always identify it as an "e-cigarette" to the authorities/uninitiated.

I got pulled over yesterday by a state cop, he said it was because I went over the white line three times. Not only did I not want to keep my window down any longer than necessary (it was a bit on the chilly side..), I didn't want him to have stay out there any longer than necessary (ain't I such a thoughtful guy..). Anyway, when he asked me what that 'contraption' was, I almost said it was a vaporizer, but I'm glad that I caught myself in time to just say, "it's an e-cig".

..........one thing that is bothering me is that we still call it a cigarette.
Its creates a direct link to real cigarettes and the media and other law makers are using that against us.
IMO vapeing is not smoking and shouldn't have the word cigarette in its name. What do you think?

You're right. The term EV (electric/electronic vaporizer) is way better.

If you start using that instead, and you can get enough people doing the same, it will be good progress and many of us will offer genuine congratulations. Will be right behind you once you convert enough people. Caution: it sure ain't gonna be easy and I'm tired of the bruises, so this is your fight.

We should just call it "a good thing" and then others could ask us why that is so.

They should be prepared for a long chat. :)

Hi all Ive been a form lurker for months and would like to contribute to the conversations.

Anyways Ive been vapeing for 6 months now and love it but one thing that is bothering me is that we still call it a cigarette.

Totally agree with you on that request, when called a e cigarette the anti vapping lobby uses it to clasify in the same category as tabacco and cigarettes.

Yes Franklinrw - but people have to find a way to reach this new way of doing things. Many of them will google "electronic cigarette" and find what they need. If we call it "a good thing" what will they google? How will they find out?
