They have released a v2 that from my understanding doesn't carry the same concerns.

Correct.

However, DIYers are convinced that it has lost it's custardyness, and is now more of a cream. I've read multiple posts that state their batches are not like they used to be. Just google 'Capella's Vanilla Custard V2 DIY.'

There is also word that V1 is the primary flavoring in Grants Vanilla Custard.

V1 contains diacetyl, known to cause a condition caused "popcorn lung" in high concentrations. It is used to give a buttery flavor to food items, ie popcorn, and to some flavoring used in some juices.

It is considered safe for eating but not for inhalation. What quantity crosses the thresh hold between safe and unsafe is not known. Like anything else, the poison is in the dose.

In V2, the diacetyl has been replaced with other additives to achieve the buttery flavor. Whether these are any safer, any worse or about the same is not known. There is just not a long enough track record for our use to know for sure.

The problem is that all custards I know of used diacetyl. That was the flavor that everyone was chasing. Now that we understand the risks most are moving away from custards or just accepting the change in flavor. I have yet to use the v2 but from everything I have heard it's still the go to custard just different

I just bought the capella vanilla custard v2 and going to give it a try. May combine it with vanilla cupcake.

I'll be interested in hearing how that turns out for you. I received some custard I ordered from FA today. Also, got 9 other flavors so today i'll just be making single flavor samples to try them out.

Actually v1 is diacetyl free but it contains acetoin and other bad stuff

Acetoin can catalyze into trace amounts of diacetyl during manufacturing. Lots of flavors can contain alpha-diketones as a by-product in trace amounts, including fruits.

That V2 stuff, ehh I don't like it. It starts out chemically and steeps into pure weirdness. TFA's Vanilla Bean Gelato (butyric acid base) starts out chemically and steeps into a thinner, single-note buttery thingy that's not awful in low percentages. Some people love it as a generic vanilla additive; little heavy for me, but it's okay.

Well if people are getting popcorn lung from inhaling diacetyl from working in factories then anyone with common sense would know that it's not a good thing to inhale even in small amounts and yes like I've said before vapings a new thing we won't see the effects it has on our body until years from now so were all just test rats.

I use v-1 and v-2. I'm not too concerned with the health risks....but thats just me. To each, their own.
I find both versions very good but quite different. With vanilla custards, to me, simpler is better. A little tfa vanilla bean ice cream and a tiny bit of tfa cotton candy with either version of Capella vc makes an outstanding juice. Think 12/3/.5.

Yes, and people with common sense would know that paying $5+ per pack of cigarettes, which are virtually guaranteed to kill you, over and over again is pretty stupid yet most all of us here did that for years.

We knew the effects, a lot of us when we started and all of us eventually, yet we kept forking over the $ :(

I feel a lot less stupid, and a lot less like a guinea pig, now as a vaper than I ever did as a smoker.
