Travel and Vaping Carmival Cruiselines and E-cigs

John Heald is Carnival's Senior Crusie director and has his own blog about things.

There is a post regarding smoking or rather an experiment of making a piano bar on one of the ships non-smoking and the subject of e-cigs came up.

Chewing Over Smoking « John Heald's Blog

I would like to suggest that everyone read this and if so inclined make your comments known. I did.

If we want to see vaping accepted and not banned to the ranks of smoking areas, we need to help educate the others. Be it on cruise ships or the local restraunt or theater

Thanks

My comment...we leave on our cruise on the 18th, hopefully Carnival listens to us and does their research.

John, my wife and I have been enjoying Carnival cruising for several years now. I always ran back to the smoking areas and interupted our fun with my addiction. I have been using the e-cig for over a month now and have been over a month without an “analog” cigarette. Please do more research into these instead of sending us back to the smoking area because since I quit the smell of smoke has started making me feel sick. Please visit CASAA.org, that’s the sight for Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives. They can provide you lots of info on the e-cig and studies into it’s safety and efficiency. I would love to see e-cigs sold onboard, perhaps through the spa as this is a great way to promote a healthier group of passengers and keep repeat customers alive for years to come!

I posted on John Heald's Facebook page and below is his reply to my question

Hey, John! Now that the Legend, etc have a serenity deck, are we going to be allowed to use our e-cigs there since we aren't "smoking"? We've always been able to use them in non-smoking areas on the ships in the past....we don't use them in dining venues

    • John Heald Yes absolutely, e cigs will be fine everywhere outside and for now everywhere inside except the dining rooms. Cheers and have a great time.April 7, 2011 at 4:04pm

"Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas."

Popsec, that does sux.
Hoped that was all cleared up especially since many of the crew are getting onboard with e-cigs

Yes, we met several of the crew who had already switched to e-cigs or wanted to. Much better for Carnival if the crew used e-cigs instead of smoking. The "big wigs" at Carnival are sure missing the boat on this one!

I asked John Heald about it on his FB page. Apparently Carnival is still of the concept that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
I suggest folks go to John Healds wall and post something to him individually. perhaps then he might listen to the cause and push it to the Beards as he calls the Board of Directors

I posted a thread on the new e-cig rules on John's wall and he replied to that and started another thread about e-cigs. Unfortunately it doesn't appear as tho' John is on top of the whole e-cig situation. When the subject was brought up in April about them he said they were fine all over the ship except dining rooms. When the new "smoking" rules came out last week I again asked him to clarify Carnival's policy. He said he'd get back to us on it. Turns out several of us had to find out Carnival had posted the e-cig rules on their FAQ page by reading Cruise critic....just sayin'.....

You might be correct , however things might change if the e-cigs /PV will become more and more common . At least I hope that .

Going on a cruise soon and my wife and I will be vaping all we feeling like when in the cabin. Screw the rules.

The new smoking & e-cig use rules about in cabin use don't go into affect until Dec. but the e-cig rules about vaping around the ship go into effect now (as I understand it)

Yes, that is the way I see it too. E-Cig rule is in effect now.

I would like to ask that everyone make it known to Carnival how we feel about e-cigs. If you use Facebook, look up John Heald and he has a page.
Being complacent and not bothering to say anything is what got us in the mess as smokers. We did not speak up because we were in a form of denial. But this time we are being wronged for doing nothing but trying to better ourselves and our lives. Time to speak up
end of rant

OK, so I escalated my questions up the chain of command at Carnival and was told that for now the policy is e-cigs only in smoking allowed areas. The fellow I spoke with suggested we write or send an email to guestsolutionssupport@carnival.com and voice our thoughts on the matter of e-cigs being allowed only in "smoking" areas. I'm sending both an email and a written letter and hope others will do the same.
