OK. Stupid question time. I've read this whole thread and probably just missed it but, :p

What is the actual filling that comes with the cartridges? (M401 carts in my case.) Does anyone sell that?

Thanks

The carts come with a 100% polyester fiber fill called polyfill. It really is the same thing you find in some pillows. It is available at about any craft store, walmart, and many other stores. A bag is like
$7.00 and good luck using it all. Some bags state that the fill is in compliance with california flamability standards. This does NOT mean that there is a flame ......ent chemical added. It simply refers to the inherent nature of polyester. I have posted an email communication in an earlier thread from the manufacturer of Fairfield polyfill that states the same thing. Just be sure to buy 100% polyfill you do not want to use a cotton or rayon blend.

You know what - this is the best tip I've ever come across on any forum about anything!!! Been vaping for a couple of months now - own a short silver SD, couple of 901's and lots of 510's (with the multi-charger - which is a must for 510 users by the way) My partner shares the 510's with me - the Tea Bag Wadding System (TBWS) gives BETTER VAPOR than standard wads, LONGER LIFE between top-up's than standard wads AND - NO HORRID PLASTIC TASTE when juice is running low - it should be adapted by ALL E-Cig manufacturers !!!

Brilliant tip surbitonPete - thank you for making my and my partners E-Cig experience BETTER - you deserve money for this one !!

NB !!!! NO E-LIQUID OOZZING OUT INTO THE MOUTH ON ANY OF MY E-CIGS EITHER !!!!

I was reading about the pyrmid tea bags, and I went down to my craft store to buy a curtain rod and noticed this type of ribbon that looked a lot like the tea bag material. I bought a yard of it for 89 cents.

Then I went to the grocery store and bought some of them tea bags, and the material looks pretty similiar, except the ribbon had a finer mesh to it. Anyways, I cut some of the ribbon and put it in a cart and works great. I also found joanne flavors for $104 a bottle...Yahhooo!!

Maybe I can take a pic of it and post it. They don't sell it in packages, it's on a roll and the clerk cuts off the amount you want. It's kinda stiff, and it doesn't unravel when you cut it. The stuff I bought had wire sides to it. I found it inthe ribbon section, it's about 3 inches wide, and looks just like the pyrmid tea bags.

Kate, I'm glad you brought this up. First of all, I'm not totally satisfied with any of the materials recommended as cart material replacement in the forums. Heck, I'm not even happy with the original material in our carts. Whatever that material is...

That's why I've taken it upon myself to design a completely new dispensing system that could be used to replace all of these wicks/fillers in various cart models. The exception to the rule would be those that have the atomizer and wick contained in one component. This new system will be extremely sanitary, fire proof, melt proof, fray proof, etc. It will be somewhat expensive to manufacture compared to what we're used to in OEM cart fillers but it should last a very long time and of course be reusable via a simple rinse with warm water.

I can't really go into much more detail yet because at this point it's just on paper. Within the next few weeks I should be ready for a few 'beta' testers. Btw, what's a beta tester called when it comes to testing hardware as opposed to software? Guinea pigs? Don't fret though - there should be no safety issues to concern anyone with.

If it all works out to what my schematics suggest this new system could even convert the most devout drippers back to using carts. Wouldn't it just be heaven to have a happy medium between cart topping and dripping via a built in mechanism without all the hassle? Not to mention less stress on the atomizer while holding liquid that is dispensed consistently till the last drop.

Lika! Pick me for a Beta (Guinea Pig) Tester!!!!! :w00t:

Are you SURE? I don't know about that - and if so, are there different TYPES of polyfill?? Different brands of carts seem to have different filler properties. And ALL of them absorb the liquid better than the bags of polyfill I've bought to restuff. The stuff in the bags just lets the liquid sit on top instead of absorbing, and the fibers are constantly coming out and stick in the atty/bridge.

I tried Fluval, its slightly better at wicking and doesn't fall out of the cart quite as readily, but this stuff gives my liquid a strange taste.

I don't want to deal with cutting up tea bags, so now I'm thinking of buying either organic wool or just getting new replacement carts. Any suggestions?
