Hi Everyone,
Good morning Jason,

We do not add any chemicals to our fiberfill. It is flame ......ant due to the inherent nature of polyester. If you hold a flame to it, it will burn however once the source of the flame is removed it cannot hold a flame on its own.

Jason, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

All the best,

Subject: Poly-fill 100% premium polyester fiberfill

I purchased a bag of your Faifield poly-fill 100% premium polyester fiberfill. I noticed that it has a Notice that states This article meets the flammability requirements of California Bureau of Furnishings Technical Bulletin 117. Care should be exercised near open flame or with burning cigarettes. I was wondering if that means you have added a chemical flame ......ent or some other chemical? Please let me know as I am looking for fill without added chemicals. E-mail me a response at
Thank You,

Jason:

Please help me here. I've got some brain fog from lupus going on right now so I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly, the Polyfill "100% premium polyester fiberfill" like found at Walmart IS safe to use in our cartridges and won't flame up or anything?

My 12yo told me what she sees in the inside of the Dura-C attys. She described what sounds like a multi-strand bare wire with the sheath cut off turned in a U with the ends going into the bottom of the atty where it probably connects to a contact that hits the battery and the pass-thru bat, to heat the attys.

When I add the filler and fill it with e-liquid, I always tuck the filler just a bit under the edge of the top of the cartridge so it will sit deep enough not to burn on what I think is the depth from where the wires in the atty sit. It also helps me not to over-fill. I hate that liquidy sound until it vapes out...

One more thing, I have fillers from 3 extra carts I bought after the Dura-C came in. I got two packs of 5 blanks of flat type & one pack of 5 carts of round. I prefer the flat carts. I've been washing the filler with hot/warm but not scalding hot water to remove the oils and I've been cleaning the cartridges using detergent but I put them in a linen garter bag (don't ask ) so they don't get lost or fall out as this little bag has small holes but it's small. It could hold maybe 10 carts total at one time but I wash them 5 at a time when I can. I've wondered if perhaps if I run my dishwasher on a cycle when I use only no-heat water/no-heat dry if perhaps I could wash them in the dishwasher in the baggie. I have a bin with a lid just for small stuff. It works great for washing those eco sponges from Crate and Barrel. It also keeps the water from pushing the sponge out as it has the lid to hold it in the little square area. It's sort of made for small stuff like glass tag rings that are washable and I've even washed linen napkin holders in it, not my silver ones but the everyday ones I do but I wash them on a no-heat wash/no-heat dry cycle too. This basket is part of the silverware basket.

What do you think? Also, can you verify I am hearing you right on the poly-fill? I just don't trust my own comprehension tonight. Please forgive me.

Hi Everyone,
I have writen to Fairfield, the makers of Poly-Fill. This is the brand Wal-Mart has. It is safe to use even though it has the warning about californias flammability standards. Here is the E-mail exchange I had with them.

Thank You,

I just wanted to thank you for this reply. I was looking for exactly this information, as I bought polyfill with the same confusing label from Hobby Lobby. This eases my concerns.

You are correct on your understanding of the fiber fill. It will not flame up and you will not have any problem with melting as long as you keep your atty moist. However I am not so sure I would use any detergents to clean cart filling. Detergents use some pretty dangerous caustic acid which in the form of vapor can be very harmful. I used to work with detergents and caustic acid. A bag of fill is very cheap and lasts allong time so I would recommend just replacing the fill. I also rinse with water whenever changing flavor.

I wouldn't use any poly fill from California- The fire thing means it is treated (with who know what) so it won't catch fire so easilly......you don't want to vape fire ......ant chemicals....

and the Poly fill or Original filler is horrible compared to PTB

Search on this forum for - Lypton Pyramid Tea Bags - and learn to use them.

Since I can't as yet start a new post this seems like the best place to ask my question.

As the proud new owner of a manual 510, seeing all this talk about cartridge filler...

How do you know when it is time to change out the cartridge filler?

I know it seems that most of you mod them just for the sake of modding them bt how do you know when they need to be changed?

For me, i check the cart when the vapor is running low or when i start to get a couple of pulls in a row that dont quite taste right. When i pull off the cart and see that the top of the filler material looks dry (white) then I would take it out with tweezers or a paper clip. If there looks like there is enough liquid on the other end i flip it over and replace then continue to vape till its all gone.

Has anyone tried a filter from a filter cigarette?
I wouldn't want to try that, the filters are treated with all kinds of stuff, would rather smoke an non-filtered analog than a filtered one.

While filters supposedly make cigarettes safer, it's often best to check what is in the filter before smoking. Several ingredients, such as a form of asbestos used in the 1950s, eventually turn out to be more harmful than smoking an unfiltered cigarette could ever be

Hello everyone...I am just starting down this e-cig path and I started reading about replenishing my own carts and I came to this thread.

I was curious, everyone keeps calling them "wicks" and it got me wondering, what about the material you find in Kerosene lamps? Has anyone thought about buying one of those wicks and splicing it down to size and using that as a wick? Curious to see what folks think.

I haven't tried the PTB yet b/c only one store carries them here and I've not picked them up yet, but I was thinking about filler materials in the middle of the night last night - yep, I'm obsesssed :D - and another idea came to mind....Minute Rice comes in boil-in-bags that are also made of polyethylene terephthalate, which I believe is the same 'food safe fabric' as PTB.

I took one of these bags and clipped off a corner so I had a little pouch and put some water in it. It dripped slowly at the corner but otherwise didn't leak.

Would this be an option for those who don't have the PTB available? Has anyone tried this or is there any reason not to try it?

Who know, we may need this...the FDA might rule out tea someday..lol

Just used a tea bag that I had in my kitchen cabinet, tore off the sides, ripped it in half and rolled it up. Then I put about 6 drops in my 510 cart and inserted the rolled up half tea bag. Mashed it down with a paper clip to absorb the liquid and then added a couple more drops which I was suprised to see it absorb that as well. Just started pulling on it and I'm very happy. Will see how long it goes before I have to refill or replace. Thanks for all the info fellow vapors.

One of the good things about the PTB is not just the material but the size. You dont have to measure or anything. Just cut and go. Just make sure that when you are looking at some people do mods you are using the same brand of PTB. I made that mistake, explained a little in this video.rho

Rho, your timing couldn't have been better...I happened to find some PTB's today in my local grocery store - they didn't carry them last week - and I bought a box....your video was exactly what I needed to see and you saved me from having to search for instructions.

Since I hadn't actually seen a PTB before, I was thinking that the minute rice was the same fabric. Now that I know it's different, I guess I'll be leaving the rice in the bag....

Your video was great...very clear and nice close ups. BTW, after it stops looking like an "R" it looks like a tiny lounge chair. :p

Thanks much for your help!

Please check out the second video. I found a better way to do it. The "R/ lounge chair" plug gave me more information when I was done with it.

hope this helps

Very cool, I guess what I was trying to accomplish with the PTB mods is a little more than absorbing the liquid. Believe me I have tried a bunch of stuff that absorbed the liquid... Ok I admit it, I used a cut up (new) shoe lace. It absorbed the juice alright but I soon realized that I was not going to be able to vape the 12 or so drops I put in it. It just soaked it up but bit all of it went to the atty. some did but I have never experienced such a short cart life. luckily i had a syringe and was able to get some back. My new mod attempts to get all the juice, even when the cart starts running low, to the atty bridge.

I liked the 'R' mod a lot...can't wait to try this one.

One question just to make sure I do this right - we didn't want the polyfil touching the atty b/c of the burnt taste, fibers, etc., but with the PTB you're placing it so it is always in direct contact with the atty which is ok b/c it doesn't melt, right?

I'm not sure what kind of cell phone you have, but it takes great videos. iphone, maybe?

Keep these coming Rho....they're really helping!
