I'm not saying this, just because I'm on the fast track to the bottom of the list. But no self respecting organization would conduct an election in a fashion that could so easily be manipulated.

I mean, If I wanted, I could go hang out in the New Members Forum and shake hands, kiss .... and say "Vote For ME" Or I could use my cell phone, dialup internet, wireless internet... starbucks (like there would be a starbucks up here) and rack up some votes real quick.

Again, I respect all the nominees, but this has not been well thought out.

just my opinion

I wouldn't mind hiding the amount of votes everyone has. It might make people more inclined to make an informed decision, not one that rest on what the majority is doing.

As far as limiting votes for each IP address. I have hughes net (ughhh) and they like to blanket IP half of the U.S.

Someone 75 miles away with hughes could very well have the same I.P. as me. Webby you should be familiar with what I'm saying. If I'm wrong (it's been know to happen) feel free to correct me.

Alternately, someone can go War Driving or simply have an ISP that frequently refreshes DHCP and vote as often as they want.... In other words, cheating can happen by accident.

So far, I'm actually getting elected. Watch me play Devil's Thadvocate, ask for voting to be limited to people who have registered at CASAA.ORG...and then lose!

I install and repair Hughes system from time to time. (Uggh is right as a technician as well as consumer, I feel your pain, you could also try Wildblue), I am sure there are things in place to identify you as a seperate surfer from somewhere else.

Yea since it appears that one still can't sign up, join , register or contribute to CASAA. (at least w/my slow provider) It is a good work in progress.

Good Grief. Come on guys...This has gone on for weeks and I've done everything in my power to make every bit of the process as transparant and democratic as possible. Righteous indignation at this point by anyone is rediculous and unproductive.

Can you vote again by using a different computer with another IP? yes. Can you get past "CASAA Member Logins" by creating a handful of Yahoo accounts and signing up a dozen times? absolutely. To make this truly "fair" we need to have voting stations, require IDs and verify each vote. If you want to cheat an online voting process it can be done. SQL injection and DOS attacks are simple enough, not getting enough votes to win? How about crashing the server and forcing a new vote?

In short - requiring logins doesn't work. Spammers routinely beat CAPCHA scripts by creating thousands of "verified" bogus accounts - it happens to most of my clients.

The whole concept of this lock on a little girl's diary is to make cheating a PITA and hope the people involved are mature enough not to waste time trying to jump over the turnstiles. Those that do are scum and aren't gaining anything anyway. I would be proud to see any twelve people on this list serve. If 29 wouldn't be a giant cluster-**** I'd say let everyone be on the Board.

That said -

  • At Midnight (CST) all votes will be reset to zero.
  • No change in the voting process will take place (see above)
  • Votes made in the previous six hours will not be counted.
  • Proxy votes (those who can not access the site for whatever reason) can be made by emailing boardvote@casaa.org
  • Results can be viewed only after voting.
  • Nominees can view current results by logging into a passworded area on casaa.org
  • Voting will end at Midnight, October 25th as originally posted.
How is that?

I'd still prefer opening a registration based system. Yes there's workarounds for everything, but at least if there is a registration requirement we are gathering membership in the process and if there is a controversy, we'll at least be able to know who did and did not vote.

I'd prefer that you remove those two points. I don't see any value in making ongoing results available, aside from demonstrating that you are indeed counting them. And I don't think anyone here doubts that you will do so and do it fairly. The only consequence I can see from making non-final results available to anyone is the potential to have some unfair impact on the final result.

ugh, better than nothing, but want if people don't want to revote?
Then IMO, they're not passionate enough about the cause.

I agree with this. I'd also like to add that I'm really glad to see that the voting process is starting over because this organization would have lost all credibility right from the start.

Wow, I'm sorry but this is not a good move. It will give the wrong impression that we're working to get certain people on the board. Plus those who already voted will more than likely not revote as they think they already voted and not bother checking back.

I have a feeling this will not be a good move. Just my opinion.

Since the ballot is linked to your profile page, it might be beneficial for all candidates to copy/paste their "campaign speeches/qualifications" for lack of a better definition, to their profiles as it would be SO much easier than scrolling through a thread to read it all in between other comments and conversations.
Just a thought.;)

I vote to give Kamanjah my votes:) This is waaaaaaaaaaaay too much chicken for a nickel:rolleyes: I'll give her my votes and step out:)

I'll do the same, but I don't think that's what the objections are about. I'll advocate for whatever keeps the majority enthusiastic.

Elections are always going to be heated.... I've not seen this much passion on the CASAA forums ever. Let's use it, and move ahead.

Guys, let's just forget about resetting the votes and go on as it is. I've been thinking about it, and we really just need to get this CASAA organization settled in. No more wasting time. Let's just keep going with what we have. There will be more elections to come and more positions for those of us who don't hold a seat on the Board to utilize our abilities.

It might not be perfect right now, but we'll get it right in the future. Right now, let's just focus on establishing ourselves.
