There are SO many variations of the CL clone.
While the basic flavor profile (stated on the Five Pawns website) is basically the same in all the clones,
the subtleties are in the exact concentrates used, and the exact balance of stated (and unstated) components
used by Five Pawns. I'm not stating anything anyone doesn't already know...
That being said, Castle Long & CL Reserve was one of my favorite vapes since it was released.
I started working on the clone a few days after. My final recipe is very similar to the various recipes
listed in this thread. I'm a big fan of FlavourArt flavors, and I always get better results using FA in more
complex recipes, as this one is. Using FlavourArt, the percentages change dramatically. Of course
FA does not provide all the ingredients needed in my rendition of this clone.
When vaping a CL clone, you should be able to tangibly tell there is more than one vanilla and the right
amount of brown sugar will accentuate, and not subdue, the vanillas. (was one of my common mistakes in the beginning)
I nixed the TFA "Coconut Extra" from my recipe and upped the % of FA Coconut. Much better end result.
If any of you start playing with percentages and you get a severe "chemically" taste, it's most likely the
TFA Coconut Extra. That stuff is extremely useful, but a juice killer at higher amounts.
Instead of Vanillin (a generic vanilla on steroids), I've opted to use FA's Vanilla Classic and a Vanilla that
I actually make myself in the lab. Lots of mortar & pestle work & slow heated for 2 days at 120 degrees
before actually "boiling" it down into a concentrate. Filtering and suspension in PG is another PITA, but there
is NO substitute (IMO) of a properly produced extract made from a quite hard to find vanilla bean...
What I love about this thread: All the clones here taste great. One of the clones here WILL taste better than
the original, just find & tweak it to your palate!
tl;dr - great work on all the CL clones everyone
