Has anyone done a decent castle long clone? Can you share the recipe?

Thanks

There's a local shop that has a juice that's really good on its own...It's a bourbon with coconut. No oak aging, but with some tweaking it would be awesome. The problem is the guy is trying so hard to guard his recipe he's not letting me help him improve it.

I keep telling him it needs this, or less of that... what's the basics in there? "I can't tell you".

I'm buying it, trying to judge the changes he's making without telling me what those changes are..... I give up.

i stumbled upon a great tasting ADV based on p.busardo's flavor profile of castle long. toasted coconut, roasted almond, brown sugar, 2 vanillas, and kentucky bourbon.
i get flavors from wizard labs and used 30% vanilla bourbon, 30% kentucky bourbon, 25% banana nut bread, and 15% pina colada for my flavor mix. apply this at 10% of your total volume of pg/vg/nic solution you wish to make. i have ordered brown sugar, coconut extra, and toasted almond flavors to tweak. a little more nut is really all i am looking for. would like to see some other stabs at cloning CL here. good luck all, happy vaping!

Sounds pretty good! Not sure about pina colada?

it was all i had on hand with coconut flavoring at the time. contributed to more sweetness than i wanted but left coconut on my lips for a nice finish.
i plan to reformulate when my new flavor order gets here. i will use more of the kentucky bourbon for more oak. a small amount of coconut extra in place of the pina colada. also a small amount of vanillin to complement the lesser amount of vanilla bourbon. finally toasted almond and brown sugar to taste. i am on its trail, playing with drippers tonight.

I'm not a fan of pineapple vapes, especially after blueprint a train etched my plastic Taifun GT tank. The only all stainless tank I use right now is the aqua (amazing BTW) and only until I get my plastic tank for it from fast tech. ;)

Sounds like you've got the plan! I can't wait to hear your results. I've heard a few options fit the oak flavor...there is an oak flavor I'm told? An oak roasted tobacco, and there's a thread where the guy actually bought a small barrel to age in....the consensus in the thread was a person could use oak wood smoke chips in any container for the same effect, but I think that's overkill.

Assuming the description from Five pawns is accurate, mixology castle long is not barrel aged, but the reserve was. While there is a difference, honestly I would probably have to vape them side by side to tell the difference...meaning the currently available mixology castle long is excellent and comparable to the original reserve release.

I'm so excited for your results! :D

the kentucky bourbon has oak in it. also share dislike for pineapple vapes but like the real thing fine. haven't found a good watermelon either. here is the best result i have made using all flavor apprentice ingredients from wizard labs. to explain how i got there, let me say i make 15ml single flavor bottles @ 10% flavoring ready to vape. i have an ultrasonic cleaner i use to mix juice at warp speed. it has to settle 24hrs. to be ready to vape. i can then mix individual flavors together in small amounts and taste using a hh.357 long barrel 1.5ohm atomizer. keeping my initial mixes at 10% allows me to quantify amounts easily. this will make 90ml of CL clone. adjust amounts as you wish. this is my flavor base.

2.5ml kentucky bourbon
1.25ml vanilla bourbon
1.5ml toasted almond
.75ml hazelnut
1ml coconut extra
1ml vanillin
1ml brown sugar

apply flavor base at 10% total mix or to taste. i welcome feedback and need the help to tweak the recipe. ice the cake so to speak.
vaping a tank tonight with kayfun .8ohm @12watts. this is good juice.

Are you saying you make 7 bottles of vapable juice with 10% each flavor, let those UC and sit for 24 hrs then add from those MIXED bottles the % to a final batch?

I need to order brown sugar & coconut extra, I've got the others (tfa).

the recipe is for a 9ml flavor base. i used 3ml of it with 27ml pg/vg/nic base to make a 30ml bottle. i can still tweak the remaining 6ml to make another batch depending on feedback. adjust the amounts accordingly to make half or less. i have a box of 100 3ml syringes and wanted to be exact in my measurements for duplication. you could change it to drops and make less. i.e. 2.5ml=25 drops? 1ml=10 drops? the quantities of each ingredient would still be relative. you would have to measure the total flavoring made to determine how much it will make @ 10%. ordered another bottle of CL today from five pawns. hopefully my last.

phone guy i am reformulating. have tasted two variations i like better and need more real CL to compare. still awaiting shipping confirmation. my thinking is to drop the vanilla bourbon. increase the kentucky, increase coconut and add madagascar vanilla to the vanillin. i am looking for more oak flavor, more detectable coconut and tastier vanilla flavors to emerge.

just got home. received new bottle of castle long today. broke out a dripper and i am definitely on the right track. i have been running a pressure washer today and my hands are shaking so bad i can hardly hit the atomizer with a dropper. my new mix with the madagascar vanilla is actually better than original. need to eat some supper and quantify the recipe tonight. i will post the results to make a 30ml bottle of clone by sunday. want time to vape tank to tank, kayfun to kayfun with identical builds by sunday. pretty excited i got so close to CL by memory of it's taste. may have to source toasted coconut. it is more prevalent than i recalled. almost the hero flavor where the bourbon was the hero in my recipe. time to eat, more later.

there is acetyl pyrazine 5% pg in CL. wizard labs is out of stock. this is the primary ingredient in banana nut bread without the banana. CL hits me with toasted/roasted coconut/almond flavor on the front end in a dripping atomizer. not so much in a RDA. i also discovered WL has the madagascar bourbon vanilla bean flavor. signed up for notification when AP5% is in stock. it is the missing link.

vaped a half tank of FP CL tonight. it is alot more subtle in a kayfun. if i was reviewing it i would say it needs more bourbon. lol i remain a bit stymied without the proper ingredients to actually clone. the juice i made is on steroids in comparison. my flavors are more distinct. theirs may need to steep a while longer. if it weren't for the pretty label i would UC the stuff. i could decant.....half. its too late but i've got all day tomorrow.

i can't call this a true clone but rather a suitable inexpensive alternative. also can't knock five pawns at all. their level of quality is assured and unequaled by any other vendor i have tried. the aroma of CL is addictive in itself. i smell roasted almond nut bread. as with any juice, taste is subjective. in either juice i can only taste the coconut with a dripping atomizer. in kayfuns, the coconut is there but muted. the madagascar bourbon vanilla is a very dark flavoring and contributes to only a slightly darker hue in the finish product in comparison. give it a try. adjust to your liking and enjoy a great vape at 90+% savings. i will make many variations substituting different fruit flavors for the coconut. i also like hazelnut added. if you like sweet increase the brown sugar

kentucky bourbon 2.5%
vanilla bourbon 1%
vanillin 1%
toasted almond 1.5%
coconut extra 1.5%
brown sugar extra 1%
nut bread (acetyl pyrazine) 1.5%

for a 10ml sample let .5%= 1 drop 20 drops= 1ml pg flavor base.

would appreciate feedback and happy to answer questions/compare notes.
