folks, thank you for trying the recipe and the helpful responses. i think i mentioned earlier that i make finished single flavor bottles and mix from them small ready to vape 5-10ml batches. i try the resulting batch with different devices. first, i taste with a hh.357 atomizer. then an igo-l rda. if i like what i am getting i will fill a protank. if i really like, i fill a kayfun. i vape two tanks without changing coils or rewicking. midway on a third tank i begin to get some off flavors. this is no different from FP. all the while i have a kayfun tanked with five pawns for straight up comparison. i have been vaping many ml of juice to get this recipe down since the thread got started. i was nearly out of kentucky bourbon with only a few ml of finished juice left. my dripping bottle had 4-5 ml of cl clone and i added the remaining ky bourbon on hand to free up the bottle for a refill. a happy accident occurred. while it was a bit too much bourbon, i really enjoyed the taste and got alot closer to the real thing. the other flavors were still present and didn't wash out as you might expect with that much bourbon added. i made a new 30ml of ky bourbon and a 15ml of nut bread(acetyl pyrazine). up until last week i had to substitute banana nut bread and couldn't wait to get the ape vape out of my efforts to exact a clone. my reformulation is minor and the only thing lacking is the coconut flavor i get from FP. not being a big fan of coconut it doesn't bother me that it is a tad muted. and as i said earlier, i have to use a dripper to truly reveal coconut in FP. if you add more coconut extra(already strong) flavoring from TFA it starts to bite so there has to be another better tasting and smelling flavoring out there. using droppers to measure i am vaping:
4 parts ky bourbon
1 part (madagascar) vanilla bourbon
2 parts nut bread (acetyl pyrazine)
2 parts toasted almond
1 part vanillin
1 part brown sugar extra
1 part coconut extra (adding more won't improve)

it is so good i am calling it 90% there. i would like to try more almond with less or no nut bread and find a more flavorful coconut with a nice toasted aroma. thanks again for the suggestions. the nut bread thing has me curious.

so theoretically, if i purchase 1 bottle of 8 mg tfa flavorings from wizard labs for every part in the above formula, mix it all up with 120 ml of 100 mg nicotine, 300 ml of vg and 484 ml of pg, will my final product be something close to 1000 ml of juice at 70/30 pg/vg 12.5 mg nic, if my flavors and nicotine are pg based ? Or maybe 68 to 69 % pg ?

My head is spinning LOL I make the base, then add that at 10% (for this recipe) to whatever amount I'm making. I should add I only bother with a base if I really like something - and this recipe is one of them!

I have never diy'ed before, but i'm pretty good at math :). I really like castle long and The Gentleman's Reserve by steam company. If this recipe gets somewhere close to them in taste, and i can purchase all the ingredients i listed for $ 53, i figured i take a chance ! I mean, if it works out, i have 1000 ml of really tasty juice for fifty three bucks !!

Oh god no - never, ever make a large amount unti you've made small test samples first!! Tastes vary - that recipe is a little different from the original one I used, and I tweaked that one as well!

Yeah, i hear you. I know you are theoretically correct, but i am not a diy'er and don't anticipate being one. This is just a one off for me, a $ 53 dollar gamble if you will. Even if i have a one in five shot of getting something good, it's worth it i figure.

I have bought $ 53 of juice from venors that turned out to be unvapable before, yeah ?

I hate to think how much I spent on nasty juice before I started DIY, so, yes, I hear what you're saying! But you'll have to double check and triple check your math. Also, you'll need an enormous glass container for this!

If you're working with 100mg/ml nic you absolutely need to triple check your math. Most of us use ejuicemeup calculator:D

And, as a warning - this is NOT Castle Long - but it's in the ballpark. It depends what part of Castle Long you like, if you see what I mean! I had to half the brown sugar in the original recipe and increase some other things (back at the beginning of the thread). Let's say you also find this too sweet, you're up the creek! Hence the test batch....

will definitely do the math with a calculator ! i will check ejuicemeup. I have a liter glass jar already. just bought a couple at a local store, in anticipation ! i could do a small batch as well, i suppose. didn't really wanna mess with droppers and stuff, was thinking more along the lines of an industrial mix :)

Fans of Castle Long Reserve or Gentleman's Reserve might be interested in my latest recipe. It was not designed as a clone, but it's a remarkably similar flavor profile.

This is a balanced, complex blend of Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey and toasted macaroon. Jameson Black Barrel is generally described, "traditional notes of toasted wood, spice, and vanilla are enhanced by creamy, luscious touches of exotic fruit..." On inhale you get tongue-sweetness of spice as smooth whiskey builds. On exhale, whiskey blends with toasted nuts, then creamy vanilla and toasted nutty coconut. Succulent coconut is the final, lingering note. My recipe:

HIC's BLACK BARREL WHISKEY MAC
1% FA Oak Wood
1% FA Coconut
0.5% FA Whiskey
0.5% FA Brandy
0.5% FA Vanilla Bourbon
0.5% FA Vienna Cream
0.5% FA Marzipan
0.5% FA Cardamom
0.5% TFA Brown Sugar

Mix it well and let it rest at least one day before you try it - to let Whiskey smooth out. No need to wait any longer than a day or two.

(NOTE: If you prefer very bold flavor, you can make this double strength, which also provides solid throat hit. I prefer milder, 5.5% total flavoring as written.)

This recipe is all about balance and contrast. The whiskey balances the macaroon; oak wood balances richness; creamy vanilla balances toasted coconut, exotic spice balances brown sugar, and so on. Playing with your voltage provides variations, and it's great over a wide range of vaping power (no flavor here will 'burn' if you crank it up a bit).

If you try it, I hope you'll leave a note here or on my blog to tell what you think of it. I'm certainly enjoying it.

Sounds amazing - I'll make it as soon as I get my cardamom!

two of the six flavors i got from FW are useless to me. both tobaccos and i'll just say the search continues for a tobacco to suit me and one for a friend i want to help quit analogs. in a round about way i did find a tobacco in my TFA box called light brand. my friend smoked salem and 10% lt b/mentholated 5% made a good substitute. FWs salem, oregon has peppermint in it. for the clone recipe, i got a good fresh bourbon and a proper madagascar vanilla. smells exotic. can't wait to substitute these flavors into the mix. the FW flavorings i made into bottled juice required !5% concentration to taste right. they did recommend 15-20% application. bothered me at first as i intend to only allow my juice to contain 10% flavorings. i can still do that when i make a large batch from premixed flavor base. for the method i use now it works out to about 12% overall.
i went straight to the source for FW flavors. the bottles were all dated as being very recently made. i got jamaican rum and whisky flavors too. looks like i will be vaping cocktails for a long, long time.

i make 15ml vapable 10% flavor sample bottles and mix juices to build recipes....
Just wanted to clarify your process -
You take each of the concentrated flavors and mix 1 part concentrate to 9 parts VG to provide a flavor base.
You then take each of these flavor bases and mix
...
4 parts ky bourbon
1 part (madagascar) vanilla bourbon
2 parts nut bread (acetyl pyrazine)
2 parts toasted almond
1 part vanillin
1 part brown sugar extra
1 part coconut extra
to provide a combined flavor base for the recipe - in this case a Castle Long clone.

You then take 1 part flavor base and mix with 9 parts VG/PG/Nic base for your final juice?

Is this correct?

I like my juice with a little more Vg but I just made up a 90 ml batch. I know thats a lot, but I am trying some experiment with it so it is broken down. I am steeping some in a glass jar with light charred USA oak chips sealed in saran wrap for 30 days. Also steeping some in medium charred French oak chips sealed with saran wrap for 30 days. I am steeping some alone in a glass jar for 90 days, and I am speet steeping some in the crock pot for 4 hours at 150 degrees then will let breathe and rest for 24. I will post results when done. Hope at least one tastes great.

yes, the flavorings represent 10% of the total amount of liquid made. all flavorings come pg based so i don't add vg or pg to make a flavor base. flavor base is flavor concentrates only mixed together. i then apply 1ml of flavor base for each 10ml of juice i am making. for the purpose of making the best possible recipe i can and try many variations, i made bottles of each individual flavor and mix 5-10ml batches out of them. once satisfied with a final result and duplicated successfully, i will make an actual flavor base to produce at least 100ml batches. at present i am searching for extractions that may be better than TFA and so far none have proven better. i have not tried FA concentrates yet. my recipe needs a better coconut imo. a toasted coconut to be exact. i acquired a different bourbon and madagascar vanilla flavors from FW for possible substitution. while they are good alone they don't go well with the TFA ingredients and give off putting flavor. my guess is FW extracts are so new they still contain excess ethanol. a mix made with their flavorings would require a good amount of breathing and steeping to be ready to vape. for the time being, those two flavors are shelved as possible substitutions.

if you use an 8ml sample bottle for each part it will make 960ml of juice. i would get one extra bottle of toasted almond and make 1040ml total. since posting this recipe i have been adding almond and like it better. to confirm your math, you are very close. to make 1000ml you would need 125ml of 100mg/ml nic to get 12.5mg/ml finish product. flavor base would tally 104ml with the additional almond. 300ml of vg covers that category. that leaves 471 ml of pg needed. makes a near perfect 70/30 pg/vg. flavor base will be 10.4%? not a worry, when i make small batches i measure 1ml of flavor on the fat side of the line. not 1.1ml just so there is a certain 1ml. TfAs bottles have come filled with an accurate 8ml ea. so i don't see much need to measure them. you may want to rinse the flavor bottles with some of the pg to get every drop. roll the dice and enjoy the clone. i like your thinking. not a huge gamble or long shot. my recipe isn't a triple crown winner, but i'll accept two out of three wins and be happy. the equivalent would cost $916.66. pretty good odds.

Thanks Jon !

I will order thr extra toaated almond. I needed the vote of confidence to pull the trigger, and I appreciate you sharing all the tweaking you have done to the formula.

Very little risk on my part. Less than $ 60 for 1000 ml of juice, even I'd turns our ro be just ok ! Anything better, nice bonus !
