I rinse (or soak) mine in hot water and dry burn, but I remove all the rings. On the older plastic models it's easy, but getting the filler rings back in on the ceramic models can be a pain (so much so that I usually just leave them out and PTB the slots to plug them up).

One idea I had was to find a suitable cleaning substance and just put a few drops of it on the wick that runs through the coil, leaving the filler ring undisturbed. It would have to be safe enough to use, yet powerful enough to eat the gunk on the wick in that area. A few drops on the wick, let it set awhile to do it's job, then a quick dry burn to turn everything to ash. If I find that "magic solution" I'll let you know. :)

By cleaning substance what do you mean? I guess mine get covered w/ Vodka; I inject Vodka like I'm filling it and let it sit. The only thing I miss about the old ones was the filler ring, yes.

Well it's just a thought, but it occurred to me that the only part of the wick that gets "gunked" on mine is the small area that runs through the coil. If I could throw a drop or two of "something" on it that would eat or loosen up the black stuff it would save a lot of time and trouble rinsing the whole thing and drying it out (especially with the filler ring in place). I thought about using a clear cola like sprite or seven-up, or maybe even a little white vinegar... anything that could cut through the gunk and still be burned off safely.

It's an idea in process. ;)

I see, do keep me posted. 'bad' has used denture tablets but said it didn't completely 'de-gunk'. Cola would be worth a try. Wonder what baking soda would do? Maybe combined w/ vinegar to get the 'volcano effect'?

My juice makes black stuff so fast and so hard that it is almost impossible to clean it all out. I've boiled these things, soaked them over night in Vodka, alcohol, and Easy-Off oven cleaner. Didn't do a thing.

I can burn most of it off the coil if I am careful, and have to be satisfied if I can see the coil turn red all the way across. Even then, the coil and the wick inside the cup still looks nasty.

Most of the time I don't wash them. When I do, it speeds up the steam off if I dry them out first with a heat gun or hair drier. Sometimes I blow them out before that with an air compressor. If my wife wasn't so unreasonable, I'd leave the air hose in here by my desk.

Edit - I haven't tried Gunk Carburetor Cleaner yet. Maybe that would do it.

Doing what I do using the juices I use and cleaning as often as I do I have no real problems with gunk buildup that dry burns don't take care of. I clean mine after 3-4 fills mainly because the taste falls off and at times the draw gets harder. The carto that I killed was done trying to get the coils absolutely pristine. I've found this not to be necessary - again uising the juices I am using. I feel that the juice one may be using may be a big factor in varying results. Just a guess.

I first stated using 65/35 pg/vg from TV. I'm now mixing that up with 100%(?) vg and have personally gotten better results with the vg in terms of wicking which seems totally counterintuitive.

With either my cleaning methods remain the same. I just popped in a freshly cleaned and refilled E2 - without any drying efforts - and am happily puffing away at it right now.

br have you tried re-rinsing after your first burn? My tobacco juice is fairly dark but I can usually get my wicks to a light gray by doing a rinse-burn-rinse-burn. Usually after the second burn I can tap the carto on a table upside down and knock out small chunks of ash.

p.s. Nice to know about the oven cleaner, but if it's not safe enough to vape after cleaning I don't see the point in trying it (ditto on the carb cleaner - lol).

Just to be clear I'm using r3 or 3.5's with only the filler ring installed and ptb modded to aid in wicking. I've also substituted the outer sealing ring for the original filler ring (flat edge against the cup) and gotten similar results. Either one merely serves to prevent leaks. Where I've substituted the sealing ring I've done so after opening the center hole a bit wider (to ease the draw) with cuticle scissors as referenced in The Big Thread. I personally have had no leakage problems either way.

I've found any of the rings much easier to reinsert if lubricated with a tad of juice. If they're dry then they're a pita to deal with.

I use a syringe and the needle from the oiler bottle I got from e-liquid.cn to flush out the chamber.

I first make a solution of 16 ml pg or vg 4 ml pga and a dash of baking soda. Then I shake it well. Inject E2 till overfilled. Let Stand 5 minutes. Holding the carto mouth side down I suck the liquid back out of the E2 with the syringe. Blow any excess out of the battery end. Do a dry burn in 5 second blasts until the coil is evenly glowing red again and no smoke comes out. Fill and use.

Way too much effort in my book, but to each their own.

What lead you to this method btw?

I haven't tried a rinse after a burn, but will try it on the next one.

I never tried to vape oven cleaner. For some silly reason I washed it out. I guess I ought to wash out carburetor cleaner too, if I ever try it.

Ok ok i get ya. :p

My point was once that stuff is in there the taste seems to... remain. I don't even like using Crest Pro Health because the taste of it stays behind.

If the taste remained in mine, I'd boil the pee diddly ding dong devil out of it. If that didn't work, then I wouldn't do that no more.
