There is a thread in the Rebuildable Atomizer forum about Rayon wicks I have been following (thanks to Jeremy R for the thread!). Really interesting. I stopped today and picked some up at Sally Beauty Supply. It is called Cellucotton, and is a 100% Rayon fiber. Wicks really well, clean intense flavor, and is said to withstand heat better than cotton. I wicked my Cyclone on my Grand. Twisted 30ga on a 3/32" drill bit at .73 Ohms, and the flavor is off the charts. I have used silica, cotton (surgical dressing, balls, and yarn), hemp, bamboo, and readyxwick, and I think the flavor on the rayon is better.

It is also really easy to work with. Almost the opposite of cotton, you want to get ALOT of the wick into the coil. So far I have not been able to choke it. It soaks up a lot of liquid, and was very easy to thread. It is very similar in consistency to the stuffing in pill bottles, as a matter of fact that was where the thread started. Anyways, link below to the thread. The material is available locally at Sally Beauty Supply, and is $10.99 for 500' which is about 246 years worth.

Isn't rayon similar to nylon? If it ran dry, wouldn't it melt? What would you be inhaling if\when that happened?
Not flaming you, just real questions.

I actually had the same question initially. I was thinking cheesy tropical shirts. Turns out it is actually made from wood pulp. Does not melt, and others have been saying it is more heat resistant than cotton. I just got it today, so don't have a lot of experience yet personally. I tried with a lighter to see for myself, and it does not melt. It will burn, but seems to take the heat better than cotton, and take longer to ignite.

Jeez.. And I just got two boxes of Ken Gen Do and 10 sheets of sesidio to compare. I feel like Ricky Bobby right now... If you're first you're last.....

I know I have ceramic sleeving, fish stones, 3 types of cotton, silica, hemp, bamboo, and Rayon. Luckily I drove by a Sally Beauty today, and not a Sephora, or else I would have the KGD as well. I'll trade you some Rayon. I got a 500' box so I can probably spare an inch or two

From Wikipedia:
Rayon is a manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber. It is made from purified cellulose, primarily from wood pulp, which is chemically converted into a soluble compound. It is then dissolved and forced through a spinneret to produce filaments which are chemically solidified, resulting in synthetic fibers of nearly pure cellulose.[1] Because rayon is manufactured from naturally occurring polymers, it is considered a semi-synthetic fiber.[2] Specific types of rayon include viscose, modal and lyocell, each of which differs in manufacturing process and properties of the finished product.

Count me out.

If you read the links a little further, you'll find that it ends up as pure cellulose! It's the best wicking material I've used, and I've tried most. People in the thread mentioned above who have used the Japanese cotton still prefer this. It's more absorbent than cotton and has less tendency to give dry hits. It biodegrades faster than cotton and doesn't seem to have a break-in period. The flavor is much more pure than cotton. The difference in wicking is that you use much more than cotton, because it doesn't swell up like cotton - not a longer wick, just a thicker wick.

For those nonbelievers, it's well worth your time to read through the thread DConnor posted above. If you're looking for pure taste this is as close as I've found.

Out of curiosity I went to Sally's this morning, bought it, been using it all day and must say it is FANTASTIC! I've tried many wicking materials .. ReadyX, bamboo, cotton, yarn, butcher's twine, etc etc .. except never tried hemp or the koh gen do (which I did order but the mailman delivered it somewhere else and then my package was lost, argh). Have it in 2 of my Reo's and they are great, this wicks so very fast and my juice tastes incredible, plus I don't seem to have to swonk as often as before ... sweet :)

You can alway send the kogen to one of the reonauts. Otherwise it will be there for you in 200 years.:)

It's pure cellulose, more pure than kogendo. Most of the cotton, and ALL hemp, ramie ect. Is degummed with sulfuric acid. Scientific fact.

One taste of a properly loaded coil you'll be sold. But that's ok I'll keep all the cellucotton for me and my rayonauts. Lol ;)
