I wonder if I could get some advice from the Chalice experts?

My happy place in the past has been a 1,5mm micro coil of 1,1 ohms with Rayon in a Cyclone with the coil low down and close to the edge.

I have tried the same setup in the Chalice III and the vape is really harsh and the throat hit severe.

How do I calm the vape down a little?

First coil was 1.5 ohms, 2nd was 1.25, now I'm rocking .92 ohm coil and really digging it.

on a Reo (just for you Papa)

Tray raising it up just a bit and back away from the edge, a mm change can make a big difference.

Also double check that you have not developed a hot leg, I've wasted a lot of time trying to figure why some of builds were great and an identical one was harsh only to find a hot leg when I pulled that capped and watched it heat.

Thanks! I ripped out the previous two coils and tried again and spent a little more time and effort... also upped the wraps to 10 wraps of 28g to get a coil of 1,29 Ohms and all of a sudden I'm in a happy zone and feeling it... I vape a very strong menthol mix and I think the efficiency of the Chalice made it far too powerful down at 1 Ohm.

Will experiment with other juices and coils as we go... but happily I'm in the zone now! ;-)

Judging the issues you had trying to get one there, I'm pretty sure (Mark, wanna chime in here?) Mark would assure you would get one in Feb

Well, I was just refunded $200 I had sent for a chalice, and I haven't heard anything from Mark. Just for clarity the $200 wasn't from Mark's site. Doesn't look like it will be working out for me, but just wanted to say I really appreciate your kind thoughts. Very happy for all of you that managed to get one.

Hehe. In the threads I frequent, I'm pretty well known for my God awful luck when buying vape gears. A thousand folks would receive flawless devices. And then there's me....

So my chalice.....

I'm assuming the final product was sandblasted? Cos mine had a ton of sand everywhere within the atty :(

And then the airholes. One of my airhole isn't completely drill out :(

I'm going to have to check mine when I get home. I don't know if it's intended to be this way but I am having an issue with my air flow. Sometimes it 'feels' like the air holes are clogged when I start to vape but then they 'clear out' but whistle. <WhistleWhileYouVape> I absolutely love the flavor but even when it is opened up all the way, I feel like I need more air.....

I've been blasting away with Odins for the last while, so getting back used to the tighter draw took some effort.

I, too, get the whistle with the afc wide open, and I actually find that my squonking technique results in some gurgle from time to time. Nothing that keeps this thing from being glued to my hand, though.

A couple followups -

- Bummer, Kiwi - that does look like 1 not-quite-.........

- CLEAN IT. I kinda rushed to use, and didn't clean it well. You need to. There's was something gritty on the mid-cap threads - I thought it might actually be bad threading. Nope - some gentle careful wiping, and it's all good now.

- I'm getting the good luck now. It just happened to attach with the coil just where I'd want it if I tried for it (away), and my second build attempt is providing not just a GREAT vape - but a great vape at a VARIETY of airflow settings. So I can hit it "tight" like I often prefer (I'm the guy that LIKES the Cyclone stock airhole), then turn a little, and take a big (for me) lung hit occasionally.

I am loving it...

So I'm keeping that ugly coil for a while! It's just 6/5 wraps, 28ga on (I think) 1.6mm, reading exactly 0.8ohms. And wicked like Turbocads: cotton - just out to the edge/posts.

wow and that from Mark Bugs? Pretty unacceptable at this price point IMO

Interesting. Any particular reason you went with between the posts? Most folks are setting them up like a RM2 - offset towards the larger free area of the deck (closer to the internal air hole).

Air circulation, the air flow comes down, circulates around the centered coil and gets pulled through the coil

Once I receive my 2 I'll set them up exactly like I did with the C2 which is exactly that way. Will it work? Idk but thats exactly the way I planned to set mine up

Ah. I don't have my Chalice with me at the moment, but it looks as though the 3 top air channels actually route to a single internal air hole on the side of the cap, which would indicate that the air comes to the coil from a single source on the side of the chamber.

That's how I understand it too.
