Check your cc or online bank statement ASAP

Me and a whole slew of people on this site and all over the US are getting bogus charges on our credit cards, debit cards. It comes in the amount of $9.84 and it is from a random .com. I put a freeze on my account immediately. Fraud departments are advising cancelling the cards, saying that these are just test charges, before they empty your account. I saw it in another thread and checked my account and sure enough. I am just trying to get the word out. Have a safe and Happy Holidays.

What kind of card, if I may ask? Bank debit, Visa, Amex?

And do you have any idea from where this originated? A bad vendor? Stolen info?

High tech and the www is great. Until it isn't.

There's no clear pattern.

Some say it's from the Target hack, others mention CCs used with Paypal (but it wouldn't be Paypal itself).

Either way, it's always a good reminder to always check one's CC (and bank) statements.

My bank debit Mastercard. No idea where it originated. I googled 9.84 credit card fraud and it had a huge thread from amazon.com. I did shop there recently, but others who haven't have also gotten hit. This tells me it a not an ecig vendor. I think it was a cc processing breach, but that is clearly speculation.

Nothing on mine either, but that doesn't mean there won't be.

Guess we should all be checking them daily.

Especially people like me who pay everything online.

Thanks for alerting us to this because I could easily be a victim.

I shop at Amazon all the time too.

Is it better to use Paypal when possible, or is that any safer?

I got the $9.84 charge (plus a foreign transaction fee) on my Bank of America VISA two weeks ago. The charge was listed as "IEWCS.COM 011-43114322". I have never shopped at Target, so the breech is more widespread than is currently being reported.

I've been checking my bank since the Target crack came out. Nothing so far, knock on wood...
