I'm no Michey D's fan at all, although their fries are still the best fast food fries. I found out they were using hake years ago, as in over thirty years ago (age is getting to be pesky). They may have changed things by now, almost everything has been cheapened to maximize profit by everybody, but I still suspect the main component s hake. Hake is a pretty inexpensive fish, especially considering its quality.

I use to love their fish sandwiches... years ago. However... recently, I would get sick on the stomach after eating them a couple of times. At first, I thought it could have been a passing 24hr stomach thing, but it happened every time I ate one. My opinion could be biased toward it and not necessarily because of faulty fish. I'm sure there are some people who love it and don't have any problems after eating them. My opinion could be colored also from looking at too many YouTube videos showing how they process their chicken nuggets as well as their fish patties... not to mention their use of "pink slime" in processing their hamburger patties. I have not gotten anything from Mickey D's since then. However, back in the day, I use to love their fries too.

I generally feel ill if I eat at Pizza Hut or McDonalds. I really don't know why but there must be something they put in their food. I love Burger King:) Whenever I go to Fernley by myself, I take myself out to lunch at the BK.

Thanx Lizzie. Mine is garunteed. The 41st for us. We met the week before and it wuzz our first holiday.

You sound like me and Hubby except we have only been married 12 years and our holiday is New Years Eve. It's nice to love someone for so many years.

Well, I haven't gotten much done on my list. I diverted to doing my taxes and even with a computer helping me it was H-E- Double Toothpicks. At least they are done now. The good news is we won't owe but the bad news is that we aren't getting a lot back so no extra vape supplies for me:)

I think I'll just buy bread when I am in town tomorrow and take a nap after that ordeal.

Sitting down, facing forward.
In the burger department BK's broiled burger is good and Wendy's is good for a griddle burger. Mickey D is a dismal last, at least to me. All of them, but Mickey D in particular, use way too much salt or MSG in their meats and that may be why you guys get ill from it. I rarely use salt at all, so when I have a fast food burger I can really notice it, especially if I get stuck at the Arches.

Coming from the NY market, with all the great Italian food it has, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Pappa John's and all the other chain style places just aren't worth going to. I'm spoiled and admit it!

Lizzie, you keep talking about making bread and it's making me want to make some too. Nothing beats fresh, home made bread with fresh butter. I can make a meal out of that, all by itself (like I need those carbs and fats).

I know you all think I probably go on too much about horses, but they are my main interest. Consequently, I share what I think might be of general interest from the horse genre. Here's a very interesting collection of art featuring horses. Picturing Horses | Tor.com I think there's a style for everyone represented, though probably more on the fantasy side, if you like that kind of art. Even if you don't love horses, if you are into art, you might enjoy giving this site a look.

I had a similar experience with White Castle. Every time (not often) that I ate there, I had indigestion afterward, and finally I realized it was White Castle, not some passing bug. Still, I have 2 White Castle posters hanging in my house, just because I love their funky, hokey style. They used to build their old restaurants like little castles, and I loved one I found back in the early '80s in New Jersey, somewhere near Elizabeth. I think now they built a new one, not the wonderful old one I loved. Sigh! Here's the photo I have of a poster advertising a George A. Tice exhibition: George Tice, White Castle

The other poster has a garish picture of their square hamburger and says, "Hamburgers for Breakfast? Why Not?" I can't seem to find a picture of that on the Internet, so maybe I should take a picture of mine and show you. I was in a White Castle with a boyfriend named George and saw the poster displayed, and for some reason, it cracked me up. I wanted that poster! I asked at the counter, and they couldn't sell it to me, because regulations said they had to hang it till it was supposed to be replaced by a new one. I asked if they could send me the poster when it had to be replaced, and I gave them my contact info, but of course, I never heard any more. I had forgotten about it by the time my birthday rolled around. George was one of the most thoughtful boyfriends I've ever had, though he had other problems, which is why we didn't stay together, but on my birthday, he presented me with the poster, nicely framed. He had phoned the White Castle headquarters, wherever they are -- somewhere in the Midwest, I think -- and he had to find out where and who to phone, since this was before the Internet, and he had talked them into sending a poster so he could have it framed for me! Isn't that sweet? There. That's my Valentine's Day story, and it's not even about Bill. Bill has other virtues, and I'm with him all these years because of them, but he would never have the wherewithall to do something like George did. Of course, talk about OCD -- George was a film editor, a very fussy and precise occupation. That helps when you have to do this kind of focused research to get what you want. I'm that type, too. Maybe George and I were too much alike.

I've had problems with Burger King, though I don't go often enough to be sure it's the food. I go to McDonald's infrequently -- whenever I need a junk food fix -- and survive OK. My latest craze is a chain called Moe's Southwestern Grill, though they aren't nationwide. Still, if there's one within range, give it a try. They advertise that all their ingredients are the highest quality -- free range chickens and all that -- and the food is tasty and agrees with me. Of course, you have to like fake, fast-food Mexican to enjoy it. See Welcome to Moes | Moes Southwest Grill and click on Music. I read someplace a while ago that they only play music (rock) by dead performers. Did they change this? I'm not sure. When I just clicked on it they played something by the Cars. Did somebody die? I don't keep up with this info. Still, when I go to Ithaca and want lunch, going to Moe's by myself is fun, because the music is so great and entertaining. You don't miss conversation at all. Oh! While I write this, the music from Moe's site is going on in another window, and now they have the Righteous Brothers. Cool!

I admire your bravery. I still have my taxes to do. I've got all the paperwork I need, so I have no excuse. I hate math! I hate even the suggestion of a number! Counting to be sure I do the right reps for my PT exercises is about how far I can work my math ability. Balancing my checkbook when my statement arrives is always a dreaded event. How can some people like doing Sudoku? Then again, I revel in crossword puzzles, and I'd say my verbal (written & vocab) is above average, which is why I had a career in that all my adult life till now. Why not now? It'd be perfect since I broke my arm. But the publishing industry seems to be cutting back, and I'm part of it. When the recession first started, and people were losing their jobs, everyone asked me if it affected my freelance work, and it didn't. Then way after the panic, it does. So I guess I'm retired, unless I can get fit enough to go back to catering, which I took up when I saw the freelancing was failing. It doesn't pay much, but you eat well! More important than the pay was the idea that I was still able to work and employable, even after the official retirement age. Now I'm thinking, after 6 months of time off from catering, do I still aspire to that or do I look for an alternative? Catering was physically demanding, but it was interesting and stimulating. But the pay was so low, I might as well do some sort of volunteer work. There's a barn about a half hour drive away that has a therapeutic riding program, and I was thinking of volunteering for that. I have done that for one in California and also near here, when we moved to this area. I also thought of volunteering at the library.

BTW, now Moe's site is playing Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage." What a great site if you just want music in the background.

If you don't want to make bread and want a reasonable facsimile , see if you can get Heidelberg bread -- see Heidelberg Baking Company Heidelberg Bread Bakery and Cafe Coffee Shop hand made German bread no preservatives bread Green Mountain Coffee -- we like the French Peasant Bread. When I lived on a dairy farm for a sumer when I was a kid, the wife made bread, and this tastes more like it than any I found.
