Sitting down, facing forward.
Good morning Voltatics! It's 62 here, already, and will probably get up to the mid 80's with no problem today. Yesterday we topped out at 84. It sure is a welcome change!

Coffee is on, dark roast Columbian and there are some snacks around as well. Bo's been walked and fed and I'm off to do some work in the basement, then take in some sun.

Thanks for the rich delicious Columbian coffee:)

35 degrees but it is only the .... crack of dawn. Still, I it looks like we may have skirted cold freeze disaster last night. Yesterday snowed in the morning but didn't stick. Still, the hills got some snow. And boy was it windy!!!!

It's only going to be 58 degrees today so I got the fire going and I will work on my house today. It needs it:) Then, we are supposed to be getting nice weather in the upper sixties and mid seventies.

Hubby and I got our eyes checked. I have cataracts starting but nobody panic apparently. It will be quite a few years before I need cataract surgery:) I got a totally different style than my current pair of glasses. They'll be here in a week or so.

Joanne, you seem to be feeling better? You are getting your test results?

I hope you are feeling better, Tail. I remember you weren't feeling well and now you are cleaning up after your break in. Hope you are doing okay.

Awsum, hate when the hot weather starts early but you seem to be happy to be working on your tan:)

We are going to need a roll call!!!!

SandySu - How is the shoulder?

Raynes - How you been? Heard from our buddy Raven?

Wabbit - Are you in the Bahamas yet?

Kico - How are those home improvement projects going? Are you still pouring cement? Are you being a maniac with the little bobcat?

Tail Joanne - Hope you are both feeling a bit better physically. Tail, I hope your clean up is going well.

Q, Basilor, Marlou, oh boy, too many to think of you all. Is it spring where you are at? Deb and other Ausies and NZers, is it fall yet?

I had a nice day of picking up the house and I finally got the kitchen almost done. Still need to sweep and mop. Made bread which is on its second rise and should be in the oven by 6 or 6:30. Hubby is making pizza when he gets home although he is running late. They must be working him overtime. I'll need to make sure we have the sausage, Italien sausage, bacon and mushrooms ready to top that pizza:)

Ususlly this means I don't have to cook tomorrow either since those are some big pizzas we make.

I think with the spring weather hitting a lot of the US, people are out enjoying the sunshine. It got warm here today. I did some housework and then took a walk around the neighborhood. I didn't even need to wear a coat, and I was just a tad warm in my flannel shirt.

As for my arm, unfortunately, it still isn't right. I do the PT exercises faithfully every night before bed, but still, I can't reach over my head. This has been depressing me for a while, but today, my spirits lifted with the lovely weather. I went and groomed Penny yesterday, or I'd have gone today. I still need to put the brush or currycomb in my left hand to clean the top of Penny's back, and picking up her feet and cleaning them out is painful, mainly using the hoof pick to clean them, which I do with my right hand. Lord knows if I'll be able to saddle her, but if this weather holds, I may try sometime this week.

Tomorrow, I think I'll go do my stint at the library. Or maybe I'll take the cat to the vet for spring shots. Eenie, meenie, miney, moe.

So that's an update from my end.

BTW, Lizzie, I knew you were a dynamo, but picking up a house? Wow! :)

Does Penny search you for carrots? Wiseguy gives me a good once over and once he figures out I don't have carrots, he's like "Just throw the hay already!"

Sorry about your shoulder, SandySu. I know you do your exercises.

Sadly, we have shoes, dog toys [I guess I should be happy the shoes aren't becoming dog toys since Rusty and Penny are very good about not chewing our things up:) ]nd stuff all over the house so I have to pick up before I can even begin to clean.

Did the quick vac but Hubby will be impressed even if there is some dirt in the corners. Got the kitchen floowr swept and mopped. I should sweep and mop the bathroom and the front door area and be done with it. I'm saving dusting and a better vacuum job for tomorrow.

The bread will be going in the oven any time now. I'm thinking sliced ham, bacon, sliced turkey and cheese sandwiches on warm home made bread. Hubby can cook tomorrow night since he is still not off work yet and then has an hour plus drive homee.

It's definitely spring, here in N FL. On Sat, I was at a friends' house, outdoors, when I thought I saw a hawk land in the neighbor's yard. I eased over, to see what it might be up to, kinda peeking around a tree, when....
Ducklings began to rain down from above!!! OMG, one after another; I had seen the mother duck come down from the tree, and she was calling her babies down from the nest. I was astounded--it never occurred to me that ducks nested anywhere but on the ground. And then mama duck led them away to the lake. I didn't know ducks could actually sneak. She made almost no noise through all the fallen leaves and debris, and the babies, who were all doing that baby-fowl cheep, cheep, cheep business when they hit the grass, didn't make a peep all the way to the shore line. Too neat! I couldn't even get a picture, because the camera couldn't really pick them up in the dappled shadows, and I didn't want any pushiness to upset their first day out of the nest.

Penny doesn't search me for carrots because I bring them to the barn in a plastic bag, which I leave over at the side of the barn aisle with my grooming tools. Then I go get her from the pasture. So she knows I don't carry carrots in my pockets, but she expects I've got them somewhere, ready to give her. She has a way of looking at me that's asking for a treat. And the other day, when I asked her if she wanted a carrot, she nickered. She did this several times during the visit when I asked. What I do is groom her for a while, then give her a carrot piece. Groom some more, and when she has been so patient and standing nicely, I tell her what a good girl she is and give her another carrot piece. Etc. So she knows that periodically, during the time I groom her, carrots will appear. This is what impressed me about her nickering when I asked her if she wanted a carrot. I didn't have one in my hand; I had to go over to the grooming box and get one for her after I had asked and she nickered her response. So she was nickering in response to my question, not at the sight of a carrot.

Another bonus to this method is that Penny is not afraid of plastic bags rustling. In fact, she loves that sound. It means a treat is coming. I never did this with desensitizing her to plastic bags in mind, but it worked out that way.

I was making a joke about you picking up the house. I got this image of Lizzie holding up the house like Atlas holding up the world.

I didn't know ducks nested in trees, either. Were they wood ducks as Lizzie suggested? Around here, mallards are the most common ducks.

I'm going to say good night and start doing my exercises. Here are some flowers I saw on my walk today.

A crocus

and Siberian squill.

Not my best photography, but these flowers are from today, not some other spring, so they're sort of special.

Good morning, everyone. It rained last night, our first thunderstorm of the year, I think. We rarely get thunder and lightning in wintertime. I've always wondered what the meteorological explanation is for that. Maybe it has something to do with humidity being necessary for a thunderstorm, since when I lived in California, where it is less humid, there were hardly any thunderstorms. I remember once there was one, complete with lightning flashes, and everyone came out of their houses to see it, it was that unusual. But out there, there were lots of rainbows after a rain, and here, they are fairly rare.

Just stopped by to say Hi, the weather has been beautiful here so I've been riding the Harley and loving life. It's been much too nice to sit in front of the computer. See ya next time it rains.

See if I was allowed to have a motorcycle I would probably enjoy the weather more.

And my restriction against motorcycles is self imposed, I've owned 3, I've totaled 3, and have a combined ownership time of 5 weeks...if you do the math you will understand why I don't allow myself the pleasure.

Shay - A wise decision on the motorcycles, I think.

Sumatran coffee is on. Fresh baked bread and buttter, honey and jam is on the table.

32 degrees out and it isn't even quite dawn.. May go to 31. This sucks. Oh no. Maybe the trees and plants won't be too damaged by the frost.

The first place I boarded Penny, the barn owner had half wine barrels with flowers in them, and when there was a cold snap at night, she covered them with towels or some other kind of cloth, and that protected them against the frost. You could try that. It probably wouldn't have worked if there was a prolonged frost like in winter, but at this time of year, when it's warm in the daytime, it might just save the plants.

I'm more worried about my trees than the pansies and snapdragon in the barrels. One year we had a severe late freeze and the trees were put back by a couple of months as they already had new tender leaves. Once the leaves froze they had to start all over again. So far, it is 31 degrees now and the sun will be up within half an hour.
