Well good morning! I am sure there is a good reason for all this Stephen King and My Little Pony drivel but I don't have the wherewithall to peruse in reverse to read it all. Leaving for Milwaukee today and so much to do....laundry, cleaning, vaccuming, packing, etc. As long as I have my vaping gear and some ready cash for pizza and Schlitz I'm good. I will check in after I get there and get the laptop connected. Have a great day kids!

Have a safe and fun trip! Enjoy the Schlitz!

Good Morning, Volties.

Coffee is on.

Milwaukee, Charlzrocks, such an exotic place to go.

Hi 'Tina - Sure My Little Ponies are cute but I have a real little horsey and I adore him:)

The Fourth of July was a blast. Hubby tied for first with the rib contest. We got thunderstorms in and the temp cooled down and we even got a bit of rain. We found out it really rained at our house which was awesome. We must have gotten about a quarter of an inch or a little more. It is in the low sixties out there right now and I have the doors and windows open to enjoy the cool air.

Looks like we might trade vacation pet sitting with a couple that lives a couple of miles up the road. They have chickens and a horse. I rather like the idea and they are a responsible couple with a nice kid who is going to college. The last gal I had babysit the pets was okay, all the pets were alive when I got home but ... the goats got out twice while I was gone and she didn't tell me about one of those times until after I got home...she doesn't know anything about horses and I had to clearly label the grass hay as horse hay....I wasn't really sure if she was showing up at a reasonable time in the morning or the afternoon....and, last but not least, my client was having an operation so I told him she would be able to clean his house if he wanted. I knew she wouldn't do a great job but I hated the idea of him not having clean sheets and the place dirty so I suggested it to him. When she got there, according to my client, not only did she do a bad job but she tried to steal my client from me. My client was adamant that she was saying she would clean his house for cheaper and thought that was terrible of her.

The sun is coming up and I have to get moving. I am going to do a bit of painting today.

Good morning, Lizzie!

Glad you had a good day, yesterday. Yes, real ponies are nicer. I haven't been able to ride one in over 30 years, though. I've always weighed too much for them. To be honest, I have given up on the idea of riding one. I don't know, maybe when I lose much more weight, I'll rethink that idea. Then I'd have to find someone that owned horses I could ride and learn how. I don't trust my aunt and uncle's horses (they may be ponies, not sure), as they've thrown my aunt off them a few times and they know her. Sorry to hear about the girl who tried to steal your client! That's pretty awful of her!

Hi Wabbit! Hope you have a great day! :)

Good morning Volties and thanks for the coffee Lizzie! :)

I bet those ribs were nice and tender... um mouthwatering. It was like the OK corral around here last night but Spanky took it all in stride... even going out to take care of business. He wasn't bother much at all, of course he didn't linger out there either. Shot right back into the house.

No rain at all yesterday and none today either. Temps are in the 80s now but will be up in the 90s later but it's not steamy so I can deal with it.

Have a great day everyone! ;)

Good morning volties! It was a long night last night with all of the fireworks going off. I am sure that they were more than the "safe and sane" fireworks. It sounded like a freaking war zone for awhile. Poor Whisper ran the house frantically and when I'd get her settled down a big boom would happen and set her off again. I had to get her up this morning, which is a rarity.

I have the ceiling and the baseboards and some wall touch ups to paint today. I held up the paint sample card to the wall and noted that the walls are a shade or two darker than the sample. I knew that in the back of my mind when I ordered the paint, but I went with the color I liked best on the cards. It's still a very nice color for the sunniest room in the house. The paint is called cornbread - a Martha Stewart color. I'm leaving the ceiling and baseboard colors dover white - which is what the house was originally painted with. I'm doing it all in eggshell so I can wipe the walls this time. Flat just doesn't do it for me.

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Eggshell is great for wiping off walls and ceilings. How do we get ketchup on the kitchen ceiling? I only have it with fries or deer burgers and that isn't often.

Sounds like your DIY is moving right along and cornbread sounds like a delicious color.

I painted all the cabinets in the kitchen white but it is called honeymilk and has a hint of cream color to it. I like it better than pure blazing snow white.

I got my concrete in the back of the shed and now I am heading out with my SI X2 with a carto to do some painting.

JoAnne - Poor Spanky. We didn't have much fireworks but we did have some thunder.

I just got back from the barn. The equine dentist came to float Penny's teeth this morning. This has to be done once a year. Horses have teeth that continue to push up from inside their jaw. They grind them down when they chew hay, grass, or their grain. Eventually, when a horse gets very old, the teeth are all used up and just wear down more and more. Nowadays, with excellent veterinary care, horses are living longer, and they outlive their teeth. This is the case of a horse at the barn named Willy who is over 30 years old. But the dentist said Penny's teeth are in amazing shape for a horse her age -- 23 -- so that won't be a problem for many years. The dentist comes to grind down rough, uneven surfaces that can develop and cut the sides of a horse's mouth. The teeth, tops and bottoms, never meet exactly evenly, so in the course of the grinding action of chewing food, a horse wears one side of the tooth and the other sticks up in a point. Those points have to be taken care of so the horse can continue to be comfortable eating.

To get a horse to cooperate with dental work can be tricky, so they give the horse a shot of a sedative. This makes Penny wobbly standing, but still, when the equine dentist starts to work, Penny wakes up and feebly resists. After it's over, she is still groggy, so I put her in a stall. I had to remove armloads of hay so she wouldn't eat any before she totally woke up. A horse can get careless about chewing and choke while they are still groggy, so you don't feed them till they're alert again. The sedative makes Penny break out in a sweat when she's waking up so I hosed her off. It's a really hot day, and the dentist said that was a good idea to bring her temperature down. I think it also made her completely alert faster, too. Or maybe it just seemed that way because I was busy washing her instead of standing around waiting for her to wake up. On hot days like this, Penny always appreciates a bath. I accidentally sprayed some water on myself in the process, and I wasn't too unhappy about that, either. It felt good.

While I was waiting for Penny to wake up enough to give her a bath, the barn owner came to the barn. I showed her my progress with her horses, what I've been doing with the carrots. Flame was more cautious about the carrot bag beside his face and wasn't too keen on letting me pet him. I think it was because the barn owner was there, and maybe he thought we'd catch him and ride him. So it was good for her to be there while I just petted them and fed them carrots. I did this while Penny was reviving in the stall before her bath.

Just a little while ago, it rained for a few minutes, but it's still just as hot and humid as before. I'm getting sick of the heat, but what can I expect in July?

FL Panhandle
Hello, all. I've spent the last 2-3 days, just catching up. I keep having to unplug my equipment, due to the neverending series of t-storms that have been coming thru for the last week or so. My God, will it ever quit raining in the FL Panhandle? It's a dang good deal that the coast is never very far away, so the water drains off fairly well...although that didn't help Panama City very much, when it rained 12+ inches in one day (yesterday or the day before, I forget which).
Speaking of which, it just got plumb dark outside--looks like 9pm out there. Bye!

Here's a weird news item I learned about today from the vet who was "supervising" the equine dentist. Who owns Happy Birthday? Class action lawsuit argues it all of us - Jun. 14, 2013

What I mean by "supervising" is that in NY State, no one is allowed to practice health therapy on a horse unless they are a vet. So the dentist is illegal, but there's a loophole: if a vet "supervises" the lay person, then they can practice. Besides, the vet had to give Penny the sedative shot. So a local vet travels with this dentist as they go to different barns on the route. It's probably more expensive than just hiring a vet, but this guy and his wife are excellent at doing teeth, so I want the best, even if it costs a bit more. The vet who accompanies them acknowledges that they are better than she is at dentistry. After all, they have studied just that and not all the stuff a person needs to know to be a vet. For instance, why would a dentist need to know about lameness? But a vet would have to study all of that, even if she wanted to specialize in dentistry.

To me, it's sort of like expecting dentists who work on humans to know about all the stuff a general practitioner needs to know. A dentist for humans doesn't need to know what a broken toe looks like. Dentists study what they need to know to be dentists and leave the rest of the stuff to doctors. I don't understand why they don't do the same for horses. It's sort of like having a law that demands your doctor address the issue of your abscessed tooth. A vet has to learn so much, it seems weird that they have to learn to be a dentist, too, and in most cases, vets don't know as much about dentistry as someone who has focused on that category of health care. Still, since there's no regulation about dentists, you can get anyone calling himself an equine dentist, and he may not know much more than you do. That's why they want equine dentists to be vets. At least they have some training, even if it's not very specific. My equine dentist is very active in the movement to make dentists a separate medical category from vets. To do this, they need to set up testing for competence and some sort of certification, which they have done. And some states honor that, but not NY.

Just to make it totally unfair, farriers, who trim horses' hooves and put shoes on, are not contested, though really they fall under the category that dentists, massage therapists, chiropractors, and other horse care specialists do. That's because no vet wants their job. Just a rant from me, who has a dentist for Penny who is definitely more skilled than any local vet.

Tail, if you take your baseboards off to install flooring you may want to pay close attention to where the nails are located. If they are nailed to the wall studs and there seems to be too much space between one or two of them on a wall that has a bathroom, kitchen or utility room on the other side, that may be where the pipes come up through the wall. I've seen a lot of nails driven through pipes cause major problems. Often they don't leak right then. They wait until you leave, then rust out and spew water while you're on vacation thinking everything it fine. I spent about 45 years in the residential and commercial construction building trades.

How did I get ketchup on my bottom kitchen cupboards in my trailer is beyond me?!? I think someone stepped on a ketchup packet and it squirted out onto the cupboards! I didn't notice it until it had dried on and it was hard to get off! *sigh*

Just a quick Hello ...Good bye...its after 3am again...got lost in reading ECF again..how quick the time flys...STAY COOL!!! :2cool: Sleepy byes...

Rest well, Deb! I do the same thing--get caught up in ECF. Just woke up at 6:15 PM and hubby will be leaving for work, soon. Which means it'll be time for me to head back to the bedroom. I don't like staying out in the dining room/living room area when I'm alone. Too scared someone will see me through the front door and try to get in! At least in the bedroom, I can hide under the blanket, because you know no one will get you if you're under your blanket! ;)

Tail, you're doing a good job! Looks real nice! Have a great night, yourself!

Hi Wuzz, SandySu, CatLady, and anyone I've missed! It's been a good day for me! I mean, I slept through most of it, so that's got to be good, right? I found a fix for my new BIPAP mask that kept rising up and coming off of my head. I put my hair up into a pony tail and the strap is stuck right where it's supposed to be. I don't know why it rises up like it does, but at least the pony tail works. I had a missed call on my phone, and was so hoping it was the pharmacy telling me my new walker was in. Nope. I talked to someone different than who ordered it for me, and they are now telling me it won't be in until Monday due to the holiday. I understand, but am disappointed. I wanted to use it tomorrow when I went to my appointment and see if it fit through the doorway easier. Got a benefits claim statement from hubby's insurance company and found out that they are paying for the rental of my BIPAP machine 100%! The pharmacy told me they wouldn't if Medicare didn't pay. They had told me that my primary insurance had to abide by the rules of Medicare, where you have to use the machine pretty much everyday for at least four hours. I wasn't, because the old mask would leak...a lot! Anyway, they are charging $400 a month to rent that machine! Goodness gracious! Thank goodness that after a year, I should own it and won't have to rent it anymore.

Well, I am going to get some lemon water for myself. I had vaper's tongue and still am suffering a little bit. I'm drinking more water, but someone suggested adding lemon juice to it. We'll see how that works. Have a great night, everyone! :)
