Good Morning gang! Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend so far.

Everything is upside down here, it's the summer production shut down for Mr. Q, he is maintenance/repair so worked afternoon shift this past week, starting day shift on Monday, then back to midnights the next Monday. Fun fun fun!

Our riding mower is down for repairs too, we are hoping it's just the coil wire, one is on order. In the meantime, I am using the push mower and being reminded how I used to do the lawn/trails 15-20 years ago. No wonder I was so darn skinny back then. It is great exercise but gets old fast!

We have been seeing a fox running back and forth behind the house lately. Gosh, it's just beautiful, we rarely see them. We saw it stalking a turkey hen with her poults, then heard a lot of squawking, poor babies. It's the natural order and all, but awwww. The good thing, I suppose, is that there are lots of turkey hens around and most all of them have a little flock of turklets, as my son used to call them.

We also have been enjoying a nightly show of fireflies. There are soooo many this year, it's just the prettiest thing to see them twinkling out there, it's as if someone strung a million mini twinkle lights across the whole property. I have always loved them, I used to go out and catch them, till I taught the boys how to do it themselves. If you have a tiny penlight and turn it on and off really fast they will come right to you. We would catch a few in a jar and bring them inside. I would let them go when the kids were asleep, they always thought it was magic, hee hee. Fun times!

Have a great day everyone, I will be lurking around as time permits.

ETA: LMAO....you guys are too funny!

Thanks for the coffee, I could use it. I don't dare drink my water with the amount of flooding last night. We had to take in our neighbors for a couple hours due to the water level in their basement -- it was up to the floor boards of the main floor. We're still pumping out my basement now, but it looks like we lost our water heater, furnace, and two freezers. We'll see what else is gone when it's cleaned up. That's what I'm doing for the day. I hope everyone else has a better one.

Sorry this is happening to you Nukified, what a mess! Hoping you can get that water out of there fast and won't find too much more that is a loss. Nice of you to shelter your neighbors, it's always easier when people watch out for each other.

Yup. That was all with me during the fiasco. I was chain vaping more than usual of course. I have a few sump pumps running down there, but we've gone from about four feet to one foot left. I've been more worried about the neighbors. She's a single mother - and you know how that typically goes trying to make ends meet - and she also has her mother living with her. No idea how much they have lost yet but I'm sure it's worse than mine. I didn't even know them but after seeing the fire department over there and all that, there was really no other option. I can't ignore people like that, even if I'm not a "people person."

It's OK Nuke, you can call Serve Pro - like it never happened for $2000:facepalm:

The truth is, they do a good job IF you have insurance to pay for it. Our little wabbit hole had a flood from a leaking pipe about 10 years ago and our insurance company sent Serve Pro out within one-half hour. Everything was dried up in a day, but it took 3 months to repair the walls, ceilings and a kitchen redo.

Best Wishes on not having too much damage, and perhaps having flood insurance.

Wabbit

I heard there was an earthquake in Washington DC. Obviously a government fault.

That is so sad for your neighbor but so wonderful of you to open your door to her.

I love your description of the fox and fireflies. We don't have a lot of fireflies here. I wonder if it's a bit too cold for them since there were always a lot in Philadelphia when I was growing up, and I've noticed that Philly averages about 10 degrees hotter than here. I did see a few twinkling these hot nights, but not in the quantity I've seen in my childhood and that you describe. I'd love to see that show!

I'm sorry the flooding has gotten so bad where you are! Are you near a river or creek that rose, or is it simply rainwater that accumulated?
